I think that if no FD or better discount comes out prior to our leaving we will do a split 3 days at Universal and the rest at Disney we would be going over to pay a visit to see HP anyway even if we stayed at Disney

Joining in! We're booked at POFQ with the 35% pin code (YAY!) the week after Thanksgiving...but I'd really rather have FD for 3 adults and a 10 year old "Disney adult". I spent some time yesterday figuring out if we could go earlier but we really want to see the Christmas decorations this year and we really don't want to go in Sept. while the weather is still so hot.

I currently have booked QSDP for our trip Oct 7-12. I have also booked a couple ADR's. Now I'm thinking that if free dining is offered for my travel dates that I should upgrade to reg DP....it's only about $120 for me, DS7 and my mom. Should I book those ADR's now and then cancel if no free dining is offered? Is this ok to do?

Yes, you can book ADR's in hopes of free dining. Many people do it. Just be sure to cancel them if you don't end up needing them.
