Oct. 16-23, 2010 - Bring Back the Magic

Defiantly agree with the bathroom odor. We were on deck 7 and had that issue as well. This was our 4th Disney cruise and we were pretty disappointed with it. Our room had several issues. We had no light on the veranda just exposed wires where the light should have been. Our safe didn’t work right, our stateroom door didn’t want to latch, and one of the lamps by the bed had a short in it…just to name a few things. The light was fixed on the veranda and maintenance was in there several times throughout the cruise to fix other things that we had not reported but nothing else we had told them about was repaired. We were just told they didn’t have the parts to fix things. We complained to guest services about how much maintenance was entering out stateroom and I asked them 3 times what we needed to do to have them stop coming in as we did not pay for our stateroom to have maintenance use it for the week repairing things. They could offer us no help. Sorry to say this will most likely be our last Disney Cruise. For just coming back from dry dock it sure didn’t look like it. Felt like we paid Disney prices to take a Carnival cruise.:sad2:

We had HUGE toilet issues the entire time. The first morning, the toilet itself was leaking. As in, I got up to use it and the liquid I put in it came out the bottom.

GROSS.

It took approximately 12 hours to fix, no one understood what we tried to tell them every time we called. I was beyond pissed. We got a $150 on-board credit for it. And the carpet in the entry way was wet following the repair, so it took several days for that to dry.

The next morning, and again periodically throughout the cruise the toilet wouldn't flush.

SUPER ANNOYING.

I am readin all your complaints and feel so sorry for you! I can say this was our 1st time on the Magic and were disappointed! The Wonder was way better! Right away we just started observing things. The smell of septic was just disgusting! There were always dishes and food in hallways that would sit there for hours to point we saw people tripping over them. It took forever to get our luggage to our room, good thing we didnt have early dining as we didnt get til like 5:30!! We had to call to receive our luggage! On the Wonder we noticed workers were always cleaning it but not the case on the Magic. For it just comin out of dry dock this was just shocking!

I wouldnt let this cruise get you down.Things happen, on occasion, but if it happened again, Id tell them in no uncertain terms, that Id either go on a different ship or different line. Try the Wonder for a trip and see if things are different. You may be surprised at the difference.

I went so far as to tell guest services on the ship that if I were in charge of DCLs drydocks,(my family owned a boat yard and I worked in one for several years before I moved to Florida) and saw the condition of the ship after, Id be sitting on someones desk in Freeport, asking what happened, what are they going to do about it, and looking for a new drydock contractor. To me, there is no possible excuse, for some of the things I noticed, more on the technical side, then the passenger side.

Dani and I talked about doing the Dream in August of next year, for a 4 day, and the Fantasy the year after that on a 7 day. Might book the Dream in the next few weeks, as soon as we settle things down from getting back from the last trip.

Heres what I would suggest to anyone that had similar issues to ours:
write out a detailed email to DCL, and send it to them, thru the website, or snail mail. I wrote mine out on a Word doc, went thru it several times, then copied and pasted it in to DCLs website comment forms. Best case scenario, is that they do something for a future cruise. Worst case, they take the comments and file them.

All in all, Id go back to the Magic, given the oppurtunity. Though it would probably be a last chance situation for the ship.

I've been typing out my comments to DCL about the bathroom situation and our overall experience on the cruise. Overall, I didn't have a knock-your-socks-off type of experience, but I'm happy with the personal interaction I did have with servers, stateroom attendant, and entertainment personnel (all of which are mentioned by name). I'm just disappointed in the overall condition of the ship and some of the things that I saw physically (toilets, chipping paint, condition of Topsiders, etc).

We booked the Fantasy for fall of 2012, when we'll have an 18 month old and a 4 1/2 year old.

Any Navigators to upload? I am on the Nov. 27 Western, so am very interested in the schedule and a bit concerned about the conditions reported.

Hi Everyone!
First off I want to thank everyone for the fish extender gifts - it was such a treat to come back to our room and find different things each day. So much fun!!!! Listened to the CD's on the trip over to WDW after the cruise!
I have to say that we also experienced a few issues. Our safe didn't work until the 3rd day (and after 3 calls to maintenance), we also smelled the sewage smell on occassion in the bathroom, and twice we had to call maintenance when the toilet stopped flushing. By the comment I got, it sounded as though it was a commom issue.
Had a great overall cruise experience though.
It was wonderful meeting everyone!!!

We had a fabulous time!!! Had a plumbing issue and it was fixed instantly!!!! Had fabulous servers, thought the food was much better than last year.

Sorry some of you were disappointed!!!

We watched a beautiful wedding!!!!! It was a wonderful vacation. Could not ask for anything better!! It was great to meet all of you!!!!

Can't wait to do it again!! I love my cruising buddies. We are still in WDW until Wednesday!!!

I agree - we had a fabulous time! We loved our servers and our room attendant and didn't have any bathroom issues at all! We crashed a beautiful sunset wedding (sort of :guilty:) and watched another wedding from our floats at CC :lmao: We thought the entertainment this cruise was especially good - I particularly enjoyed the juggler :rotfl:

It was great meeting all of you! :wave2:

I love my cruising buddies too! :grouphug:

I also wanted to thank you all for the fish extender gifts. My son sooo looked forward to coming back to the room each day to see if there was anything waiting. He would shout....WE GOT MAIL! I have to say, we loved the pins, we might have to start collecting! I also thought the night light was a great idea! The tote bag came in very handy. I didnt know we were supposed to put our names on our items. I am so sorry I didnt! Just so you all know, I made the personalized Mickey head magnets and the pocket calendars and the kiddies got the pirate bracelets, necklaces and eye patches.
We also had a little bit of issues with the toilet. Seems like it was leaking too. It certainly wasnt a pleasant smell. Overall, we still had a great time. We will continue cruising with Disney.

Thanks to everyone for all of the great FE gifts. We have been on several cruises and participated in FE many times, it never gets old. It’s so exciting. We all look forward to looking into our FE for the surprises of the day. Once again thanks.

I hope everyone had a “Magic”al cruise. I am glad this was not our first Disney Cruise. To be honest, if it had been, it is possible that it would have been our last. We were very disappointed in several things that happened and they way some things were. We are Gold Castaway Members. We booked this cruise last year while we were cruising so it had been booked well over a year. At the time we booked it, there were no cat 10 deluxe inside statesroom so were just went with the gty. We had been able to upgrade last year from an inside to a balcony for a few $$. I was hoping for the same this year. NOT. We were put on deck 2. Room 2147, which is at the very end of the boat and very, very noisy. Did I mention that it was noisy? The halls had a sewer odor. Our toilet would not flush. Twice after taking a bath, the floors in both bathrooms flooded. It was a foul smell. Granted, every time I reported the problems they were looked it to but obviously not fixed because if it had been, it would not have happened two times in a row.

I was very disappointed in our dining this cruise as well. We were always very prompt on arrival for dinner. Most times being the first in the dining room. We were always the last to leave. Our servers were slow, slow, slow. We are not slow eaters, so it was the service. I missed our servers from the past. When we found something we liked in particular,, always before we could order it even if it was not on the menu. It was being served in another dining room and our servers were delighted to get it for us. This cruise, our server would not entertain the idea. The food was OK…..I believe that we have had better in the past. I hated the taste of the water in the dining rooms as well. To me, it had a musty taste. The girls had ordered a couple of virgin strawberry daiquiris and they were not fit to drink because of the taste of the ice. I also did not like the diet coke in the dining rooms. It was flat and on top of that with the taste of the ice, yuck. One evening our drink server came to me and told me that the diet coke machine was broken and could he offer me a regular instead. What is that? Needless to say, we went to deck 9 and got our own drinks. The diet coke on deck 10 was much better anyway. We missed Wemick and Genesis, our servers in the past. They were still serving in the dining room we were in but not our table. They always made it a point to come over and speak to us. I’m sure the guests they were serving had a fantastic dining experience.

I was disappointed in the overall looks and degree of maintenance of the ship. Especially after coming out of dry dock. Several times I saw the arms of the seats in the Walt Disney Theater fall into the aisles. Pitiful. The dryers would not get the clothes dry in one cycle…if they were even working. The ship looked very worn.

On a positive note, our statesroom host was great. He did his best to make our cruise as enjoyable as possible. He could not help the problems that occurred. It was not his responsibility. He did an excellent job taking care of us.

Once again, thanks and I hope you have many more "Magic"al &/or "Wonder"ful cruises.

If anyone knows Annika & Christian's last name, please PM to me. We wanted to meet up with them later this week at Hoop Dee Doo, but somehow we failed to swap enough info! If I have last name I can find them.

We enjoyed meeting everyone & LOVED the FE gifts!!

We too had a little problem with toilet not flushing, but only a couple of times. It had a slight urine smell. The lights on our balcony were put up on day 3. The ashtray was never installed. My bed sagged terribly. The closet door stuck. The table in front of the sofa didn't work properly. These were only little annoyances. The worst part was the location of our room was directly across from a crew only door. That thing slammed constantly!! We complained 4 times & nothing was done about it. I noticed that one machine at the soda station was out of service the entire time.

Hello!

Thanks for all the FE gifts! DD loves getting "fish mail". Unfortunately, we found out later in the cruise that some of our stuff was stolen. There were gifts that another cruiser got that we didn't and the stuff she gave us was never recieved. She saw groups of teenagers roaming the ship at night and checking FE's for stuff. We were on deck 2.

Ah, the laundry rooms. DH was the guniea pig Sunday morning. None of the washers were working cause the payment system was new in dry dock. No one knew how to get them to work . They had to re-set the whole system. Meanwhile, after 1-1/2 hours just to do socks and undies, they finally comped us laundry done by the ships laundry. We found out later that it would have been $107!!!! It was charged and then removed from our bill.

We had other issues as well, but I need to get ready to go to Epcot.

I'm back.

We spent more time at guest services than the rest of our cruises combined! This was cruise #11 so we are platinum level. The first day, our stateroom hostess asked us which bed to make up for DD. We told her the couch. We come back after dinner and found the bunk made up. DD will not sleep in that. We fixed the couch into a bed ourselves but couldn't get the bunk back into the ceiling without a tool. We called guest services to fix the problem. When we came back after midnight, we found the bunk back down and nothing done with the couch. DD was afraid the bunk would fall on her. I tried calling guest services again but got no answer. DH went up there. They said someone would be there to fix it. No one came. DH went back up to GS. They said they would call in 15 minutes to see if someone came. They did that time. The next morning, we told our hostess and she said she forgot. Her forgetting caused a lot of grief. She was the worst host/hostess we have ever had. Trying to get more shampoo and conditioner was like pulling teeth. We would come back from someplace and find the cabin door not latched. There was always something wrong.

SO, our cabin door would not latch unless you pulled it closed. The bathroom door had to be shoved closed. Luckily we did NOT have any bathroom issues.

Our servers were not the best we ever had, but were not the worst either.

We thought the entertainment was not up to par.

I don't know when we will be back on the Magic. We are sailing the Wonder next October.

I do have to say they really need to do somthing with the Platinum perks. While, I don't sail for the perks, I thought they would be nice. The best perk was "the spend $100 in the shops and get a $25 creidt", but you didn't have to be platinum to get it. The room service "treat" you could get for free just by getting room service. The only thing on there you couldn't get for free was a bottle of sparkling wine, sow got that. Also, the animal tour at CC, was a joke. We thought they would show us the sting rays. I didn't expect the whole experience, but all it was was a question and answer period. That was a waste of time.

DD did have an awesome time in the Clubs this trip. They are so good withthe kids. Also, I had great spa experiences. They were very friendly this trip. I had a manicure this time. I haven't had one since I was in high school. They fixed any chips and re-did all 10 nails when I needed them done.

I do like the changes at CC.

Ths ship did need a lot more TLC than they gave it in dry dock.
