DS had such a great time on our last cruise, he wants us to book another 3-day for his 8th birthday instead of Universal....

Although DS turns 8 on 6/13, and we may book 5/13 3-day (better pricing), it is important to him that he be allowed to go to Oceaneers Lab under the 8-9 age group... even though at time of sailing he will be 1 month shy of his bday

Can anyone tell me if you've experienced this , and if it is possible that DS be allowed to join the 8-9s?

Thanks so much!!!

As long as he is within a month of turning the required age, you will have no problem putting him into the Lab instead of the Club. :)

Hope this helps!

I have read in the past, as long as you are within 1 month of that age group, you would be allowed to move up. I would wait to hear from some others, but I think that's right.

The rule is that you must be within 30 days of your next birthday to move up to the next age group AND have permission of the counsellors and parent. The counsellors will talk to the child and determine if they think he is mature enough.

Since May is a 31 day month, I really don't know what they will do. He is technically 31 days from the birthday at the start of the cruise.

DD is turning 13 ON the cruise this time. The official answer I was given re teen activities is that they will not guarantee that she will be allowed in. However, I then got an "unofficial" answer that "there will be no problem, it's a slow time of year." They then allowed us to book teen only excursions, but had a little problem over-riding the computer. Since she is 12 at embarkation, it "blocked" her from the activities automatically. I pointed out that she would be 13 on the day of the activity, and was put on hold for a supervision who could over-ride things.

based on that information, we've booked the 5/13 3-day for my DS's birthday!!!!
