Anyone familiar with the area? I have to go to a wedding there, (in the off season) and am looking for a place to stay. It is definitely a place of few hotels, and I'm not loving the prices of the ones I've found, considering the time of year. We could almost rent a house for the weekend for less, but that seems like such a hassle. I've been there before, but we stayed in a house owned by a friend of the family that they have since lost touch with, or we would try to rent that house.

Any advice?

With year round golfing, there isn't much off an "off season" anymore at the beach. Try www.sloanrealty.com and www.cookerealty.com. for a weekend rental. We've used them both with great results.

With the poor economy, I'm sure you could ask about discounted rentals that aren't advertised. We found great bargains at the outer banks last summer.

We Have stayed at a place called "the winds" before
-you could check it out -I have no idea what the rates will be like
Good luck!
