Obsessed with moving to Orlando

Hi all

Not just because I love Disney, but I just love Orlando. The palm trees, the excitement, etc.

Is this a stupid reason for wanting to move to a new town? I live in Pittsburgh and I'm so bored with life here, (besides the Steelers lol) and I want to move somewhere, and I figure why not go somewhere I love?

Whenever I mention it to my family, they roll their eyes.

I don't want to move there forever,,,but maybe I just need to get it out of my system?

I even got a job at the Disney Store to try to get Disney out of my system, but I was only hired for holiday help and had to quit because they were only giving me 3-5 hours a week. That mall's closing soon too.

Any thoughts? I feel like even if I do make the decision, I will be embarrased to tell my family, they think it would be ridiculous.

I am originally from the burgh so i know EXACTLY how your feeling. I moved from there 13 years ago and never looked back. I believe life is all about the experiences you fill it with. Move to Orlando and try something new. You can always move back if it doesn't work out. If you don't you'll always wonder what if.. Goodluck-GO!!!

i know im only 21 yrs old but maybe i can help you. You need to do what your heart tells you and whats going to make you happy. so if you moving to Orlando is going to make you happy and thats what you want then go do it!!!!

Hey thanks a lot to both of you!

This is really the kind of stuff I need to hear. I dont know why I care so much if other people disaprove. And I don't want to wait until I'm collecting social security (i'm only 23 hehe) to have the guts to do what I wanna do.

A couple friends of mine who moved to Miami always tell me to come live with them. I've never been there, but the first thing that popped into my mind when I think of moving to Miami is "How far of a drive is it to Orlando?" LOL.

I'm a 38 year old professional and I plot and scheme everyday on how I can make the move, I have all my friends and family here in my hometown so I am thinking that I will keep a house here and get a condo on the gulf coast (anywhere in florida is the key!) so don't feel stupid at all, why else would 50 million new yorkers constantly move down there, including billionaires like like Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh. Florida is the place to be and don't let anyone tell you different (Gulf Coast only about 6 hours from Orlando!!!!)

Well, I am right there with you. I have a son in High School who wants to finish school here and then I am Orlando bound. I want to work for Disney and feel that kind of magic every single day of my life. I say go for it, there is nothing in life more important than being happy. I will join you in a couple years and we can have a glass of wine and celebrate. You don't want to look back and say "well I should have", make yourself happy. Like the other poster said, you can always move back if it doesn't work out.

Go For It! and think of me when you do!! I have dreamed of this myself. If only my husband would agree. I also feel stuck in a rut and hate where I currently live. I have a wonderful husband and children, so I am kind of stuck where I am until they are grown. Maybe then my husband will pick up and follow me to the Happiest Place on Earth!! I wish you luck in whatever you choose. Who knows you may feel like you have finally come home and never want to leave Orlando. I moved from the Burgh in 2003 to the Orlando area and I love it. I moved just in time for 4 hurricanes to come right through our county and I still wouldn't move back to Pgh. Good luck on your decision.

OH MAN! this so my kind of post. I total empathize, this is exactly how I feel. My wife and I have often said in the last 6-years(since we started doing disney) if we had to do it over again we'd start out our life together in the Orlando area. We have kids in school now and they are too old to move from family and friends and we have too many years invested in my pension plan to chuck it away. BUT, I am feverishly scheming to get an early retirment that will allow us to be down there in about 10 -12 years. If the stock market will just cooperate and the property values don't tank I just might make it.

I say if you can swing it and it will make your life a happier one go for it. Lifes to short to wake up one day and say man I wish I would of, I know I should have, If only I did when i could have etc....

Ha, so am I. I live about an hour away as it is, but everyday I wonder how in the heck I can make the move.

Keep in mind, it's hot and we have hurricanes. Has that detered you?

Also, the prices aren't that bad in Orlando compared to the rest of the state. It's a bit more crowded. There is so much to do there though. Have you finished college? If not, they have a great community and University there as well.

Also, you could move to Tampa, where l live, and work in the call center for Disney. The perks, great health insurance and free tickets to the park.

If you move to Florida, there's the double added bonus, Florida resident rates! Woot!!!

If you think you can swing it financially, try it for a year! Apply for a job first, obviously; if nothing else, you may just get it out of your system. You can always move home if you miss it.

I used to think it would be great to live in Florida, however, I have mellowed at age 53. Before you move, you need to think about things like: the 4 hurricanes that hit one summer and how some places are still not fixed from those. You can still see tarps on the roofs.

The summers are oppressive, especially for us Northerners not used to heat close to 100 degrees and high humidity. You also need to remember that the Disney Magic is designed for the paying customer, not the employees. For them, it's just another job, and a low paying one at that. For the most part, you could be outside all day, even in the summer, and forced to be nice to rude visitors that you might want to strangle .

I'm not saying you shouldn't go, just think before you do it about all the factors, not just the fun ones.

DBF and I are planning to move to Kissimmee in 2008 when we have saved enough money. He really wants to work at Disney and said that since the pay isn't all that great, he will still work a regular full time job and work at WDW maybe one day a week. But I know how you feel as far as being bored with your town. I live in a small town in CT and right now the biggest controversey is over the planning of a new animal shelter. our biggest attraction (if you can call it that) is an extremely overpriced movie theater. We have no major restaurants, no major stores...I'm surprised we don't have dirt roads! I'm like you, I just want out!

My husband has always wanted to move to Florida. I, on the other hand, love my Pittsburgh (outskirts, rural town) and never want to move. I suppose I'd entertain the notion if we didn't have children. But I want my kids to grow up with thier grandparents and aunts and cousins...

You're young still. I say go for it!

I moved from the "other" side of PA, but in 2003 as well, and I agree - hurricanes and all, I won't ever go back.

I never was a Disney fanatic... in fact had NEVER been to WDW prior to a trip in March of 2003. While staying with a friend, I fell in love with the area - not just Disney....

I got back to PA on March 18th, and on April 12th, I flew to Orlando to go house hunting, and on June 1st moved into my new home.

Something was drawing me here.. things just fell into place to quickly... for it to be the "WRONG" move.

I am in my 40s, and had a child to consider but she was up for the adventure as well, and luckily my job "moved" with me so it was easy.

If you really feel a passion to move here - go for it - you are YOUNG.... do it now... nothing says you can't move back home!

To this day, I don't know what the "purpose" of my move here was, but I have never regretted my decision for a day..... (well maybe an hour while hiding in my bathroom DURING Hurricane Charley!)

I am not sure what the purpose of my move here was either. But that is OK because I feel at home here. At least we got our first hurricanes out of the way.
