Observations, things I saw and wish I didn't

Just retuned yesterday from our 9 day stay. Be prepared for some heat and humidity.....YIKES!!!! Our first 3 days it was like 95 w/ really high humidity. Then the rain came and at first I was sad it was raining, but it kept the heat and humidity away. It rained on and off for the next 5 days!! Sunday (yesterday) the sun and heat and humidity returned. We only stayed in MK for 2 hours - we were miserable. So all you summer travelers.....be prepared!
The crowds were very low, mostly 20 minute waits. Go early!!! Can't stress that enough. Did Fantasyland in 1 1/2 hours. Didn't use EMH PM. We were there for Spectro and Wishes and it was packed. We left and returned at opening the next day and the place was empty till 1:00ish. We were litteraly walking off a ride and on to another, never waited in line. Going day after EMH is my recommendation.

Anyway - what I wish I hadn't seen:

* A woman sitting on a bench in Toontown clipping her toenails!! My dh took a picture because he said no one would believe it.

* An overweight Italian woman in a bathroom in Frontierland with her top off washing her body in the sink!!! EEEEWWW

* A woman in a ECV (weighing a least 300lbs) in a bikini with a clear poncho on.

* Waiting for Stitch a man who began pushing his nosehairs back into his nostrils when his wife told him to!!!

* The cooler use is out of control. I don't know where people put them when going on the rides. One lady parked hers in stroller parking, it was one of those hard plastic ones on wheels, very large. I got there in time to see her handing out puddings to her kids. I could see in the cooler, sodas, sandwiches, puddings...it was crazy!!!

* A group of young Italian girls, there were a lot of them and they PACKED :grouphug: into the monorail, totally overloaded it. They were all over us, no sense of personal space. 7 of them squeezed onto the bench where 2 of my kids were already sitting, almost tossed my son on the floor. Then they started YELLING to eachother. One girl who was kinda behind me leaned over me, her face was an inch away from me and she was yelling to her friend who was across the car! I said to her, "excuse me". Either she didn't understand me, or pretended not to understand. At one point I kept my elbow in one of their backs to keep some space for me. She didn't care one bit. When they finally got off, the 20 or so of us in the car just started laughing....it was really crazy.

* Finally, the amount of pushing that goes on. Someone is constantly pushing past you and tripping over your stroller. And the pushing that goes on to get into and out of shows is down right scary!!!! Leaving the new stunt show in MGM is a nightmare. My 8 year old got separated from me (I thought he was behind me). I heard him crying and yelling for me. I stopped and was almost trampled by people and I was yelling to him to catch up to me. No one would give a crying boy a break. I understand not watching where you or going and bumping into someone (it's hard not to in a crowd) but hardly anyone says sorry or excuse me!! No manners left in this world.

* Lastly, the one time we rode the bus we were leaving MGM in the pouring rain. The bus finally comes (after a long wait) and a family with a wheelchair person loads first. Wheelchair person, spouse, grandparents, kids, kid in stoller. Fine, whatever. We all squeeze on, I make my boys 11 & 8 stand. I hear people talking and I turn around. The grandfather of the wheelchair group (who is young, late 50s looking) is sitting on the outside of a 2 seats, not allowing anyone to sit with him, chewing his gum looking very cocky while and older woman (real grandma looking) is standing. A teenage boy offers his seat while the man is sitting there all cocky looking. On top of that, he was pushing the stroller and when he loaded the bus, he put it(still open) on top of the wheelchair leaning into the aisle. He never closed it and the bus driver said nothing. There was also a man in an EVC on the buse traveling with his wife and 3 young kids and a double stroller. No one would help them unload (I was stuck in the front of the bus holding my stoller on my lap, or I would have helped) It was so sad, he had to manuver off the bus, the wife gets off, holding her infant to hand the infant to him to get back on the bus to get the other 2 off to get back on and get the double stoller having trobule getting it off. Everyone watched, especially the cocky man. It really upset me.
Well, that's it Sorry so long, but there is a lot to see if you look!!!

I love Disney World and am on the way in just three days! One of the things that I'm dreading is the rudeness! It seems as if no one has any manners anymore! Thanks for your updates!

I had a post to write, and I reconsidered it. Let me just say that your "observations" of things you "wish you hadn't have seen" Just hit me the wrong way. If it offended your sensibilities, then you shouldn't have looked. Maybe you caught me on a bad day... maybe not, you be the judge, but your feelings about larger persons is just.. rude.

I can't believe some of those things you listed. That is just gross (especially the toenail clipping?!?!) EWWWW

That is awful!!!! When we are at Disney or ANYWHERE even my 6 year old DS will go out of his way to help someone in a wheelchair, or a lady with a baby. He is so cute using every ounce of his 45 lb body to hold doors open, insisting "Ladies First!!" As fo the girls yelling on the monorail!! :sad2: My children KNOW to use their INSIDE voices and I am sorry, but I would have probably had to yell too and tell them to use theirs!!!
There is no excuse for rude people. I stress the importance of manners to my children. ESPECIALLY on vacation!!!!!
I feel like your husband!! sometimes I feel like taking pictures because you know that NO ONE will BELIEVE what you saw!!!!
Anyway, hope the rest of your trip was great and lets cross our fingers that I do not encounter any Italian ladies :earseek: in the restroom in Frountier land!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

About the descriptives she used, I think it was more or less to give you a mental image. As for me, ANY woman with her top off in the restroom at disney where I take my DS (because I do NOT let him go by himself) would be offensive!!!!!

Why would someone take a photo of anyone -- much less a perfect stranger -- clipping their toenails, simply to prove they had seen it? Who cares if someone believes it? I get the point of "can you believe I saw ...." and why it would be related to someone, but seriously ..... as you're showing photos from your vacation, you're honestly going to say, "Here's a picture of little Janey with Cinderella, and here's a picture of some total stranger clipping her toenails because we knew you wouldn't believe it if you didn't see it."

Don't let these type of posts let you down...

We went a few weeks ago - I really had started "rethinking" my choice for vacation this year - we've been 4 or 5 times since WDW opened, and I was REALLY worried that things had "gotten out of control"...

Well - maybe I'm a Pollyanna - or maybe I'm just unobservant... ( never had THAT problem before..) but we did not see any truly obnoxious behavior - I paid CLOSE attention to stroller/ECV situations.. and guess what - did not see ANY problems.. Didn't have problems with them either...

Sure at the end of the night my husband observed that people aren't smiling as much as they are in the morning... laugh... but they're hot and exhausted! Didn't see any outrageous displays though... :confused3

Go - have a great time... put your Pollyanna hat on.. if you don't have one I can lend you mine!!! :flower:

I totally agree. Now a supermodel topless in the men's room, that's a different story.

Ok, Ok, my family of 4 are just about to take their very first trip to WDW. It is a dream of mine, a goal maybe, if ya want to put it that way. I've always wanted to take my children and stay on property because my family never did such a thing while I was growing up. So we always want more for our children.

I love these boards, I've learned so much here, and I think I've actually planned the most magical vacation my family will ever have, BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

With post like these, it makes you wonder, is there any magic there at all??
Why, Why in the world, when you take your family to the most magical place on earth, would you come back and make fun of, put down, or judge others because of their looks, gender, back-grounds, or anything else for that sake.

If you went to WDW, and this was "magic" you saw, or maybe I should say the "magic" you choose to remember, maybe you went to the wrong vacation distination??

Just my two cents.

Sorry. I would have taken the picture too.

This post is really walking a thin line...do you speak Italian? I guess the woman in the bathroom was talking to someone...in Italian? I think we should let this post go away. :sad2:

Disney isn't all sunshine and roses. I realize it is supposed to be a 'magical' place (for some more than others). Some people feel Disney to be an escape from reality. I feel you can't escape reality, especially with so many people in one place. Irritating and rude things will happen. Most people will notice these things happening. I think it would be impossible to walk into a bathroom and see a woman cleaning her bare chest and NOT NOTICE. People report the good things that happen on this board, so why can they not report the less pleasant aspects of Disney?

i found nothing in the op that offended me. my only comment is look for the good and you will find it. i am refreshed by the fact that the younger boy willingly gave up his seat for the lady. just proves that there are really good people in this world. and 98% of them are. and for all you who are lamenting the downturn in manners, it just isnt happening. people today are as good as they ever were. your magical vacation will be magical.

Here's some things I have seen at Disney and I'm glad I did!
This one is actually before getting to WDW but it was great. Rode on the plane with a Make A Wish family, incredible to see the look of delight on that little girl's face when she flew for the first time, saw a palm tree, posed with the Disney type sign things at MCO. It was great, got the trip off wonderful. I hope she's doing okay.

Seeing my son pick up an older lady's hat that fell out of her ECV. He went running after her, she gave him a big hug and told him thanks, her late husband had given her that hat.

Watching my kids meet Minnie Mouse for the first time the first day we went to Disneyland two years ago. Where was my husband with the camcorder darn him!

Having Cinderella blow my 80 year old stepdad a kiss during the Electrical Parade. Happy Birthday to him two weeks late! Next day Mary Poppins was flirting with him, no wonder he wants to go with us to WDW in October.

Okay, I could go on and on and I am not trying to be rude to the OP but I have been falling prey to some of these negative posts lately and it makes me realize I first came to the disboards to increase my magic not take it away! For those of you taking first time trips, relax you'll see a few things you might wish you hadn't, but mostly you will be having so much fun you'll think heaven is really on Earth and its called Walt Disney World!

P.S. My husband had to cut his toenails once at WDW because one of them was too long and cutting into the toe next to it. Can't remember where he did it, maybe somebody took a photo and can share it with me for my scrapbook?

thanks for reminding me why I go on the off season!!! :earseek:

The buses are the reason that I will spend the extra $100 or so and rent a car. The 1st time we stayed onsite in 2001, the buses were crowded and I was struck by how many young men sat in seats and let women and especially younger children stand while they sat.

Did you ever notice all these rude/crazy things seem to happen when the heat/humidity is high...? I absolutely hate going to DW when it's too hot...everything annoys me, and I find my patience level is very low, with things that normally I'd laugh or shrug off...I realize that rude people don't take a vacation from their antics, but I think we're bothered by them more when we're hot and miserable. People dress more trashy, too many screaming, tired kids, cranky parents, tired people who don't want to give up seats on busses, etc. And trying to vacate Fantasmic or the Stunt show in the heat, yuck.

I was just there May 16, and it was high 80's. Very humid -told my husband, I'm getting too old and cranky for Disney World. We'll come back in January...

I have seen quite a few posts on all the negative things at Disney. I am left to wonder several things. First, if it is so bad there, why do you go at all???? There are many, many other wonderful, and magical places to go in this country and others. See other things besides Disney. And secondly, for all of you that want to post all the negative things you see, why don't you talk about all the positive things as well??? For every person that does something obnoxious, there are hundreds of people that behave as they should. I am just so tired of hearing all the bad and rude things people do. How about something good??? We are all so lucky to be given the opportunity to go to Disney World in the first place, it's just disheartening to hear about what some lady did in the bathroom, or how awful some meal was. Enough whining already. Flame me if you want....I don't care. For every person out there that makes you crazy, the are examples of human kindness everywhere. You just have to be willing to see it.
