Observations, things I saw and wish I didn't

Not to sound as if I tooting my own horn, but especially when I'm at Disney I try to do a Random Act of Kindness, such as helping a someone take a stroller of a bus, telling a little girl all dressed up as Cinderella what a pretty princess she is, ect ect. I've always thought that the Disney Magic shouldnt be reserved just to the cast members.

I think people are just shocked at how people behave at Disney World. It's this wonderful, pristine place where you can suspend reality for awhile - forget your problems, your job, family squabbles, the chaos in the world, and just fantasize and get lost in the magic of it all..

Then, reality hits you in the face with rudeness, profanity, and people behaving badly. No wonder people whine...

I just think these behaviors are manifested more in the heat/humidity, and people are bothered by them more....

Gee, I guess we went at a good time (5/7-5/13). Yelling kids and so on is pretty much the norm although I agree with the original poster that the people in the Monorail were rather rude. They were probably just excited to be at WDW. The only rudeness I ran into, which in a way was rather comical, was while I was standing in the Fastpass line to Test Drive. The CM was talking to someone who had a question about the ride so I waited, with my DS and DD, patiently for her to finish. Then, this woman walks up to give the CM her FP and notices me. She says to me, "Oh, are you in line?" She then said, "Excuse me, XXXX" I'd rather not print out what she said but I'll give you some clues. It was two words. The first word has 4 letters and begins with S and ends with T. It is an insulting word meaning a woman of little virtue. The second word is 3 letters that begins with an A. The funny part (other than being a guy and trying to figure out why she would use that description to me) is that we passed each other twice during the walk through line. You know, where you weave back and forth as you approach the ride. I tried to catch her eye but she wouldn't look at me. I was determined that if I could catch her eye, I'd wink and blow her a kiss.

Having been in the World at the same time as the OP, and having just returned, I can relate. Lighten up, folks. One of the great things to do is people watch. Plus, you can't help but notice things when someone is line line right in front of you for a while...and her bottom cheeks are sticking out from her tiny shorts. How can you NOT notice a 75 year old grandma in a tube top? How can you NOT notice a lady walking around MGM on a very hot day in a long sleeved pink suit with the price tag still hanging off her white sandals?

About the descriptives she used, I think it was more or less to give you a mental image. As for me, ANY woman with her top off in the restroom at disney where I take my DS (because I do NOT let him go by himself) would be offensive!!!!!
Yeah, I def. agree.

Is visiting WDW just a form of denial :rotfl: Is there anyplace in the world that you can put thousands of people together and not find rudeness and improper behavior. Some of the worst behavior (especially by kids) that I've witnessed has happened at church -- what's that all about?

One of my last dying wishes (not for another 40 years I hope) is that everyone remembers my children as well-behaved, respectful, and polite, both as children and adults. If they do, I will know I have done my job here on earth to the best of my ability :flower:

Looks like this thread belongs with the "Have you ever had a shock " thread :earboy2:

Holy cow.....didn't mean to start such controversy!! Lighten up people. Just stating what I saw. Did I go out of my way to see/hear such behavior..No. Did I write the post to be mean...No, I thought some of you might think it was kinda funny/unbeleivable stuff. Of course I saw nice things but who wants to read about my kids hugging their favorite characters or all the cute silly things they said, only their parents appreciate that stuff.
I wasn't being mean, about people's size. Just stating the fact and giving a visual. For your information, I'm no supermodel, but you won't find me in a bikini or standing in a public place w/o a shirt on!
I also didin't write this to make anyone second guess their vacation choice. It's a great place, lot's of fun and magic. However, I don't care where you go if there are crowds, there will be people doing, wearing, saying things you don't agree with. Why we can't state what we saw without being attacked is beyond me! I've grown very tired of some of the people on these boards who take life so seriously. I for one am a person with flaws and don't always do things to the best of my ability. For those of you have have never ran a red light, lied, swore or had a negative thing to say, I admire you. Me, I'm human and make mistakes. Now that my trip is done, I choose to take a break from these boards and the criticism that always come up. Thanks to those who listened and gave out great advice. I wish you all a great Disney trip!
For the rest of you, unbelievable how you can hide behind your computer and play the holier than thou card.

Anyway - what I wish I hadn't seen:

* A woman sitting on a bench in Toontown clipping her toenails!! My dh took a picture because he said no one would believe it.

* An overweight Italian woman in a bathroom in Frontierland with her top off washing her body in the sink!!! EEEEWWW

* A woman in a ECV (weighing a least 300lbs) in a bikini with a clear poncho on.

* Waiting for Stitch a man who began pushing his nosehairs back into his nostrils when his wife told him to!!!

:rotfl2: Your story is hilarious and scary! I, too, probably would have taken the picture -- please post it if you can. What a hoot! :rotfl:

Each one of your points was funny. And there is no need to have to explain yourself. Some people on these threads I have found seek out reasons to find something wrong, no matter what you post. :earboy2:

Thanks for sharing! :flower:

Who knows? Maybe the people she saw were actually DISer's (shudder the thought) and will read it here and think twice about their actions and/or appearances.. :confused3

This thread is no worse than the ones that complain about everything from Mousekeeping to CM's, to long lines to people in wheelchairs, to not getting towel animals to peeling wallpaper in a resort room, to duck poo in the pools to rowdy cheerlearders, to......well - do I really need to go on?

There's a whole lot of complaining going on about Disney here.. Why the animosity towards this particular poster? :confused3

I am another who didn't find anything that the OP mentioned as being rude :confused3 --actually I think what they were trying to do was give those who weren't there a mental picture....and that they did! :teeth:
And yes I would probably take a picture of someone leisurely clipping their toenails in WDW because its definately something you don't see everyday and hope not to see!! :rotfl:

Well I thought the post was funny/interesting. What is wrong with observing life? And making those observations known to others. :chat:

I for one thought your post was funny and it brought a smile to my face. I have been reading the thread on "Things that shock you" and this one is perfect for that thread.

I think everyone just needs to calm down and be able to see the humor in some things and laugh every once in while.

I myself have never seen anything that has shocked me while I was there (we just returned from a 10 day vacation 3 weeks ago) so I find it interesting that this stuff goes on there and I missed it :rotfl:

I was laughing so hard, my mom came to see what was up! :rotfl:

I don't understand why it is offensive to include that the half-naked lady was Italian. The OP was just describing what she saw. It wasn't a knock against all Italian people. People need to lighten up and not play the race card all of the time. IMHO it was not warrented. Now if the OP had said it as a stupid Italian, it would have been.

Hey, I look at it this way. Its no worse than mid town Manhattan where we took the kids a few weeks ago. Anything at WDW is well behaved compared to that.

Or the women that was physically threatening her kid at a double A ball game I took my 8 year old to a few weeks ago. The kid was few minutes late to the car and she was letting him know how he was going to be punished. Try explaining that one to your 8 year old without using inappropriate language.

As for the Italian girls it sound just like I remember the mass transit system in Italy, without the smoking of course.

The behavior at WDW may not be perfect but I would guess that it is better than most other places in the world. I will find out soon enough in August.

As for the nail cutting it only seems fair as they have a barber shop but not a nail salon. Ha, ha!

Oh, I can also find plenty of questionably dressed persons locally. I don't think that they will suddenly aquire a fashion sense just because they are at WDW. Repeat after me: Just becuase you can wear it doesn't mean you should. :)

[ it.

*
* >>>>>Whats that old 80's expression-Gag me with a Spoon!!!! :rotfl: Well the 300 lb lady in a bikini with the poncho........call the fashion police but I guess i could live with that one-BUT------the sink washing Italian lady-do you mean she really had her top off and was in her bra or do you mean she had nothing on????? I am going in July and plan on taking pix for my scrapbook of the "things you have to see to believe". I know that their are different customs but really, common sense should be universal.

I agree! ::yes::

Add me to the list of the people who think there's nothing wrong with the post. Disney is my fav place to vacation, but i can still see a long list of things that bother me when i go.

I totally enjoyed this post and took it for exactly what it was meant to be, a litehearted look at life and people. :flower:
