Obama's Speech

There must have been two speeches.

In the speech I heard, he didn't give anyone a pass for their racism. I think the point about his grandmother was spot on.

:worship: :worship: :worship: We must have heard the same speech, who'd have thought it?

And am I the only one, or are most of the respondents on your ignore list? Just curious...

I thought it was a pathetic example of moral equivelency. He USED his own grandmother, and made public her private comments that she had trepidation of black men, and tried to compare them to the hate speech his pastor SELLS on the internet.

You apparently have comprehension problems. It was an honest depiction of the world we live in.

And so you shout LIAR. We get it. You are filled with hate and despair.;)

We are hopeful for a united party and a united country. Curses on our optimism!

And for the final dagger in your heart..............

Go Big East...Kick ACC butt!

:lmao: No not me at all! No hate, No despair here! :lmao:

We are already a United country when it comes to political parties, (another Obama fallacy stated that we arent) When was the last time there was a gang war between Democrats & Rebublicans on the street? When was the last time someone lost a job or didnt get hired over their political affliation?

Well, I guess you'll be writing in a vote or voting for Nader, No problem :thumbsup2

Nope not him either!

He never mentioned his own racism! He pointed the finger at everybody else.

I thought he threw his grandmother, who raised him quite nicely under very stressful conditions, under a bus!:sad2: By him telling us that his Grandmother was a racist...proved what????:confused3

Not to beat a dead horse ;) , but those comments were "made public" four years ago when his book was published. :rolleyes1

It proved that he is ungrateful (to his grandmother) and a political opportunist.

contractiory statements made BY Obama ABOUT Wright over the last few days:

Quote:
GARRETT: Sir, would you have -- would you have quit the church had you heard them personally?

OBAMA: You know, I guess -- keep in mind that, just to provide more context, this is somebody who I had known for 20 years. Pastor Wright has been a pastor for 30 years. He's an ex-Marine. He is somebody who is a biblical scholar, has spoken at theological seminaries all across the country, from the University of Chicago to Hampton. And so he is a well- regarded preacher. And somebody who is known for talking about the social gospel.

But most of the time, when I'm in church, he's talking about Jesus, God, faith, values, caring for the poor, those -- family, those were the messages that I was hearing.

And so you know, I think that the statements that have been strung together are compiled out of hundred of sermons that he delivered over the course of his lifetime. But, obviously, they are ones that are, from my perspective, completely unacceptable and inexcusable.

And if I had thought that that was the tenor or tone on an ongoing basis of his sermons, then, yes, I don't think that it would have been reflective of my values or my faith experience.

GARRETT: So, quick yes or no. If had you heard them in person you would have quit?

OBAMA: If I had heard them repeated, I would have quit

Quote:
None of these statements were ones that I had heard myself personally in the pews. One of them I had heard about after I had started running for president, and I put out a statement at that time condemning them.

The other statements were ones that that I just heard about while we were -- when they started being run on FOX and some of the other stations. And so they weren't things that I was familiar with.

For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course.

Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.
Quote:
I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

He is dishonest.

He is the PRIMO politian...Just tell um want they want to here.

Anybody ever see the movie (or Play) The Music Man!!!!!! Thats Obama, sweet talking, fast talker, run away when the question gets tuff, flim flam bamboozeler!

"We got Trouble my friends"

He never said on Friday that he had never hear ANY controversial things. He was talking about the comments that were all over the media.

Preachers, almost all of them, say controversial things at one time or another.

Writing in a book is one thing. Broadcasting that Nanny is a racist all over the world...is another thing!:sad2:

And do you think the statements by Rev. Wright help or make worse the racial divisiveness in this country?

And you weren't voting for him, before this speech?

Yes I was. The speech made me feel better, more hopeful about race relations. Can you grasp the concept?

I understand you are not ever going to see it my way. But lets allow me too. there is something to be said for vision. I dont find it in any other candidates.

What are the qualities in your chosen candidate, and do their views of the world differ from those expressed in this speech? What are the differences?

and I'm out.

g'nite

Chobie & NewJersey, there is no point. People are going to spin like ballerina's. He heard controversial views does not equal hate speeches directed at a subset of the church... Saying that your white grandmother had race issues doesn't mean throwing her under the bus.

My FIL who I helped and watched die in December had very serious race issues, didn't mean I cared less. Given the family relationship with the Reverend, I'm glad Obama can separate the good of the man from the bad.... My own GF was known to whisper ill as well, I guess I just threw them both under the bus. People are afraid to talk about it, they won't admit it, and this speech was not directed towards those people.
