Obama's Aunt- she only get's one thread!

Both situations are about an extended family member doing something wrong. In one case the right is saying not to judge the candidate by the others actions. In another they are saying we should. Seems related to me.

No one on the right defended McCain's brother... but they all said it shouldn't affect anyones opion of McCain. How is that different, then this affecting anyones opinion of Obama. Do you have any proof Obama even had an ongoing relationship with his aunt to be aware of her situation?

If McCain was out and about telling people not to abuse 911 then we could compare the two. Obama is out there telling us all "we are our brothers keepers", so why can't he "walk the walk" with an Aunt he spoke dearly of in a book that netted him 100's of thousand of dollars.

No, like in typical liberal fashion, he wants others to do it. It's selfish (and unpatriotic) not to.

Many OS have no problem with any tax increases yet when pressed, most all do not forgo any tax breaks afforded them by the tax code. They won't send a check to the IRS for more than the actually owe. They will only "step up to the plate" and put more money in the public trough when everyone else is forced to do so along with them.

Of course it's probably too late to affect the election, but it seems like Obama will have a bit of a dilemma now. If he does something to help this woman now, it will be perceived as being for selfish motivations, especially if he uses his power and influence. If not, he won't be able to deny knowing about the situation yet continuing to do nothing.

Once you all run this woman out of town, can you focus on the citizens who cheat? You can start here with our fellow DISers. You know the ones who admit they receive WIC, free/reduced lunch... all while planning/enjoying WDW vacations and DCL cruises. Oh, let's not forget the WIC collecting DISers who own DVC.

See!!! We do have common ground! How about those filing for bancruptcy just after, or before, their next deluxe WDW vacation?? They need to addressed too.

As far as I know he only met her once.
When he was 10 years old he went to Kenya and met his dad and his father's family.
I think that was the only time he saw them and is what he wrote about in his book(s).

Because he did meet her only once by all accounts (whether there was a second meeting when he was a young adult is a possibility, but we're still talking minimal contact). He writes about his one trip to see his father when he was 10 years old. Because he had no contact with his father growing up it was a major event in his life that made a great impression on him. That's why it was in his book. I believe he went back to Africa when he was a young adult to further find answers about his father, but he didn't have extended contact with any of his father's family. He talks about even after meeting his father, the absence of a father had more of a hand shaping his life than that one visit did.

I've recently found and met some of my half-siblings. It was a fantastic and monumental trip for me. I hope to develop an ongoing relationship with them, but even if we don't I would still consider meeting them a remarkable moment in my life. I haven't, however, met all of them. I have nephews that are grown adults that have never met me. If I were in need they would have no idea. They would have no obligation to help me either.

Through the years we've had President's with questionable relatives. They can't be held accountable for their actions. For instance, we had a President with a son who had an alcohol and cocaine problem and who was mixed up with SEC violations. He had no control over that son. What ever became of that son? hmmm

Oh, and what about that Admiral who had a son who constantly got into fights, crashed multiple planes and graduated in the bottom 5 of his class? Whatever happened to him?

This woman applied for asylum. She is probably in danger if she returns.
I had a girlfriend apply years ago. She was Iranian and she knew she would be killed if she returned. She was here in med school. She was denied asylum but not deported. She had to live here with no status. No one bothered her, that is common. Her husband, in Iran, threatened to kill their daughter. She went back. I never heard from her again.

Our church sponsored a family from Nicaragua in the same no status situation due to the denial by our government for asylum. The children are still here, married with children of their own and got citizenship. The parents finally returned and because of the changed situation in Nicaragua, they are safe.

I hope Obama's 'half aunt on his father's side' is ok. If she's in danger, this press can not be good for her. She's a human being looking for safety, has no ties with Barack Obama and should not suffer because he is running for POTUS.

Can we PUHLEEZE stop perpetuating the Ugly American reputation and begin working with the Christian principles on which our country was founded? We can take care of our own and others that need us. It is the moral and American way.

well everything you said sounds good except the bold statement. The US can not support the rest of the world, we can not even support only those being abused elsewhere.

The CNN report is saying this is not the aunt he's talked about in the public at all.

He met his Aunt one time. You might have a point, if you could proof he ignored a situation where he had knowledge someone was in hardship and did nothing. But until you have proof of an ongoing relationship and that he fully was aware of her situation you have nothing. Much like the rights ranting about Obamas poor, poor half brother living in Kenya. Offering to send him $10,000 since Obama wouldn't take care of him... never mind that Obama's own brother went on tv saying he was offended by the western medias portrayal of him being poor and suffering and he was doing great thank you very much. Or the fact that if the police there thought he had $10,000 the man would be dead and that it would not have been safe for the brother for Obama to have publically given him anything (I have travelled in that same exact neighborhood in Kenya and was given the same restrictions). Yeah, don't understand the situation, the family dynamics or the culture... but judge all you want.

As far as taxes, hell yeah I don't send more to GW. Why? To fund a war I never believed in, or support corporate welfare. Nope. I don't agree with where the money is spent so I will send my legal obligation and nothing more. I wouldn't expect anyone to do differently. Since GW doesn't want my money I will give it to people who do. Churches and nonprofits supporting hardworking men and women who can't make ends meet under Republican economic policies. I will happily pay more taxes under Obama because of my belief the taxes will go to the right places.

I will take a deduction on my house and my health care. Things democrats believe everyone should be able to deduct (and McCain doesn't).

I will likely pay more taxes under Obama overtime, after I graduate and am working in that profession we will be above his number. But no I will probably not pay more than is legally obligated... at the same time I will not spend money in other areas to "tax plan" to pay the absolute minimal taxes legally possible as so many do, and will not take great pains to maximize deductions as I do now. I will happily pay my taxes knowing they are building a better future for us all rather than feeling disgusted as I do paying them now.

Bush doesn't want my money. Fine, he doesn't get it. Obama asks for more money... I support Obama, he will get my vote and he will get more of my money... happily. How is that hypocrisy?

How much more did you send to Bush to fund the war in Iraq? You have no problem asking me to fund the war although I was against it from day one. That war has cost us a heck of alot of money, which needs to come from somewhere. Surely the IRS would love to see you financial support for it. I don't think the "I am my brother's keeper" thing really applies. Yes this woman is family, his step-aunt but that doesn't mean BO should be obligated to pay her bills. I have extended family that can't pay their bills, doesn't mean I'm moving them into my home! I think BO's doing as much as he can do really. The law should be followed and she should leave, point blank. People trying to make this a smear on Obama are truly desperate at this point.

I think it absolutely applies. Obama is preaching spreading the wealth and that it is selfishness not to do so. It's part of his platform. Charity begins at home.
