Obama supporters! - A positive place to talk about his campaign

I got really depressed reading some of the stuff about Rev. Wright on the other threads. There are some posters who are just gleefull in their hatred, it really is scary. But after the "typical white people" thread I realize that they don't have an open mind, they aren't really listening, they hear what they want to hear and then spin it to suit their beliefs. But after listening to Keith on Countdown last night I think they are in the minority. He was talking about a poll that showed 7 out of 10 liked the speech and had a favorable reaction to it.

As others have said, Obama will get past this and those people were never going to vote for him anyway. If Bill Clinton keeps saying stupid stuff it may happen sooner rather than later. Once the real contest between Obama and McCain starts I think Obama will really start to take the lead.

So I may post on those other threads, cause it is nice to get them all riled up, but I am going to remember that they are just a small minorty compared to the rest of the country.

Not sure if this has been talked about but how about Bill Clinton saying McCain and Hillary should be the nominees since they both love their country so much. MSNBC reported Hillary has YET to comment on McCain's Iraq gaffe from the other day.

One has to wonder whether Hillary is running to be the Democratic nominee or the Republican running mate.:rolleyes1

I suggest you not post much on the ugly threads. There are those who post simply to cause upset and to keep their threads at the top of the first page.

I agree - they want us to keep coming back to defend Obama but I've given up. Eventually they'll get tired of agreeing with each other and stop posting until Dawn starts the next one. ;)

You are both right about the ugly threads. I have stopped reading some of them, it's just the same old stuff, over and over again.

You have to wonder what Bill and Hillary are up to. Do they really think if they steal the nomination from Obama that they can win in Nov.? They were just saying on MSNBC that when the fight went to the convention, Reagan and Ford in 1976, they lost the election.

The Clinton's are all about them and I no longer believe they care about the country, they just want to get back in the White House.

I admit to growing weary of Joe Scarborough's tirades, snide remarks, and basic overall demeanor these days. Sir snide needs stop with his "hints".

MSNBC Reporter: Obama Campaign Didn't Push Story That Hillary Was Behind Passport Files Breach

"I noted below that I was going to try to establish whether the Obama campaign really was peddling the story that Camp Hillary was somehow behind the security breach surrounding Obama's passport files.

After checking into it, I can say that it appears that there's no evidence that this actually happened.

Today on a conference call, a top Hillary adviser attacked the Obama campaign, pointing to the fact that it was alleged on MSNBC this morning that the Obama camp was pushing the tale. This claim appears to have been based on this quote from Morning Joe...

JOE SCARBOROUGH: It's hard to say. It's probably not going to be that big of a story except for the fact that it really helps Barack Obama get some bad news off the front pages of the paper going to the weekend. I think what you're going to see, and already it seems the Obama camp is trying to push the narrative that the supervisor in this episode was a Clinton appointee. They are going to try to point their fingers towards Clinton and make it political.

This appeared to be a reference to a story that MSNBC's David Shuster did yesterday reporting that the former chief of consular affairs received an ambassadorship from Bill Clinton. But Shuster, who is MSNBC's lead reporter on the passport files story, indicates to me that any reporting suggesting that the Obama campaign pushed this story to him is false.
All of my reporting on the passport story has been based soley on State department and Department of Justice resources. I have received no tips, leads, contacts, guidance, spin, or anything else from any political campaign.

The story I broke last night about the former chief of consular affairs, Maureen Harty, having received an ambassadorship from Bill Clinton in 1997, was obtained by (1) researching state department web sites and other data bases for the names of current and former consular affairs chiefs, (2) finding a state department biography for Maureen Harty, (3) confirming her ambassadorship via a Clinton foundation web site that had the 1997 press release.

Presuming that Scarborough (who didn't return a call) was basing his assertion on the work done by MSNBC's lead reporter on this story, which seems quite plausible, it appears that Scarborough had this wrong."

I don't like Scarborough either. He has a way of spinning the facts to his point of view. MSNBC got rid of Tucker and I wish they would do the same with Joe. I don't watch him very often.

This is a MUST read. (Please note, I am more than happy to have Clinton take the VP slot. This article is just pointing out the obvious about this continued race.)
Reverse thinking on Obama / Clinton
Let's for a minute reverse the names and the facts on the ground: Candidate Obama has won only a fraction of the number of states Candidate Clinton has won, is behind in both delegate and popular vote counts, and his campaign is almost in the red. He has won over only one Super Delegate in the last several weeks while losing others previously pledged to him. Meanwhile Candidate Clinton has $30 million in the bank, leads--and has lead for weeks--in the delegate count, popular vote, and number of states won. There has been a steady stream of Super Delegates coming out for her including two former rivals for the nomination. Please tell me Democrats and the MSM would still be talking about a neck and neck race and not about the folly of Candidate Obama staying in. Just as everyone watched Huckabee in amusement while McCain assumed the mantle of his party weeks ago Democrats would have clearly been doing the same around their obvious candidate. In reality it is only the Clinton brand name that is now keeping her in the race and thus putting the Democratic party in turmoil and at risk. Can you imagine the outcry that would be happening among Democrats if Candidate Obama was causing a potential Convention floor fight by stubbornly staying in?

Crazyforgoofy, you are wise. :thumbsup2 Not only does it let the threads fall down, but it's probably better for our collective blood pressure. :goodvibes

Really stupid to lie about something that there is video tape to prove you are lying.

Do you think this will get as much replay as Rev. Wright?

We can only hope. I'm interested to see how she'll defend it.

Reverse thinking on Obama / Clinton

The ONLY reason she hasn't been rode out on the rails is because of her last name.

If Obama's poll numbers go back up and stay there than Hillary really doesn't have a case with the Super Delegates. There has been a lot of talk on MSNBC about her not being able to win and staying because of name value.

Is there anyone that could talk some sense into her? I wish that all the top Dems would come out for Obama before PA. If she has no support she will have to drop out.

It's still quite a while until the Penn. primary. Things are bound to move more in Obama's favor by then. Senator Clinton may 'win' but she won't win by nearly enough to change the numbers much.

HOUSTON (Reuters) - John McCain's Phoenix pastor, Dan Yeary, is a folksy patriotic Southern Baptist who opposes abortion and believes homosexuality to be a biblical sin, but says Christians have an obligation to love such sinners.

That puts Yeary, who heads the church attended for the past 15 years by the Republican presidential candidate firmly in the U.S. Southern Baptist mainstream, and in line with the Republican Party.

He offers a sharp contrast to Democratic contender Barack Obama's former preacher Jeremiah Wright, who has stirred controversy with his fiery comments on race and America.

Obama had been seen by some analysts as having an edge over McCain on issues of faith because of his adult conversion experience and his ease in talking about his faith. But his own preacher has proven a political liability.

In a country where religion and politics often mix, 25 percent of American adults count themselves as evangelical Christians, giving them huge influence as the country heads to the November 4 presidential election to succeed President George W. Bush.

McCain draws some support from this group but many conservative Christians are uneasy with him because of his support for stem-cell research and his past criticism of leaders in the movement.

Yeary, pastor for the 7,000-member North Phoenix Baptist Church, professes little interest in politics and prefers to focus on preaching and spiritual guidance. But McCain's affiliation with Yeary will do him no harm in wooing support from the key Republican base of evangelical Christians.

"John and I are friends, he has called on me to minister to the family in times of challenge and difficulty," he told Reuters in a telephone interview.

McCain, a former prisoner-of-war in Vietnam, was raised in the Episcopal Church but has been attending Yeary's church for about 15 years. Yeary declined to comment on McCain's reluctance to finally undergo a baptism ceremony, a key ritual of the faith.

"John and I are having continual dialogue about his spiritual pursuits," Yeary said.

In an interview last year with InsideCatholic.com, an on-line Catholic forum devoted to issues of faith, McCain said he liked Yeary's "message of reconciliation and redemption which I'm a great believer in."

"And so I began attending North Phoenix Baptist church and I'm grateful for the spiritual advice and counsel that I continue to get from Pastor Dan Yeary."

McCain, like his pastor, is staunchly opposed to abortion rights but Yeary said the pair had never discussed the issue.

"Have we talked about abortion? No," Yeary said. "I believe that abortion is wrong and I believe that it is a very, very poor choice ... I believe it should be outlawed."

The 69-year-old Yeary adheres to the Southern Baptist belief that gay marriage and homosexual relations go against Biblical scripture, hot-button issues for many in the United States.

"The Bible is pretty clear about it, in my opinion it specifically calls it a sin. I also am a sinner and you are a sinner. ... Did Jesus Christ love homosexuals? I'm sure he did," Yeary said.

PRESERVE FRIENDSHIP

Obama's preacher by contrast sparked howls of protest for his angry sermons over what he called racist America, charging that the September 11 attacks were retribution for U.S. foreign policy and claiming Washington was the source of the AIDS virus.

Wright was Obama's pastor in Chicago for two decades but the Illinois senator, locked in a tight battle with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, distanced himself from Wright in a widely hailed speech addressing race issues earlier this week.

Obama would be the first black U.S. president.

"In the United States, the sacred cow is the concept of the nation -- someone who is a religious minister can say almost anything they want and not get into trouble in the political realm unless they go after the nation," said David Domke, a professor of communication at the University of Washington.

Yeary was sympathetic as a fellow pastor and said while he did not agree with Wright's comments, all preachers eventually got caught in the trap of their own exuberance.

"All preachers have a tendency to overstate because our passion is so intense. But I thought Obama did a fine job in response. He preserved his friendship with his pastor while disagreeing with him," Yeary said.

"I'm sure John McCain would probably say the same thing about me if he were asked 'So, do you agree with everything your pastor says?"' he added with a laugh.
