I do understand your concerns. The words are strong and disturbing. I think if you do a little more reading and research on Obama though it will help you see where he's coming from. If I thought of a minute Obama condoned this at all, I'd be outta here.

I agree with Honu on this, if I thought for one minute he condoned or agreed with what was said, there's no way I could support him. However, nothing he has said or written or voted would lead me to believe he holds the same ideals as those statements that we have all found to be disturbing.

Yes! It took about 5 minutes and I felt good after doing so. :) I also put a call and an email to my Senator's (Webb) office to ask him to support Obama.

I know what you mean, I would like to get that good vibe :goodvibes after doing something positive!! After hearing the speech today, I am even more convinced I am backing the best candidate!:thumbsup2

I think that's the most important point of all, from moment one Obama has come out strongly against the statements, I can't see any of those types of ideals reflected in anything he has ever said or done.

Same here!

A nice review of Obama's speech by Andrew Sullivan of "The Atlantic"

Alas, I cannot give a more considered response right now as I have to get on the road. But I do want to say that this searing, nuanced, gut-wrenching, loyal, and deeply, deeply Christian speech is the most honest speech on race in America in my adult lifetime. It is a speech we have all been waiting for for a generation. Its ability to embrace both the legitimate fears and resentments of whites and the understandable anger and dashed hopes of many blacks was, in my view, unique in recent American history.
And it was a reflection of faith - deep, hopeful, transcending faith in the promises of the Gospels. And it was about America - its unique promise, its historic purpose, and our duty to take up the burden to perfect this union - today, in our time, in our way.
I have never felt more convinced that this man's candidacy - not this man, his candidacy - and what he can bring us to achieve - is an historic opportunity. This was a testing; and he did not merely pass it by uttering safe bromides. He addressed the intimate, painful love he has for an imperfect and sometimes embittered man. And how that love enables him to see that man's faults and pain as well as his promise. This is what my faith is about. It is what the Gospels are about. This is a candidate who does not merely speak as a Christian. He acts like a Christian.
Bill Clinton once said that everything bad in America can be rectified by what is good in America. He was right - and Obama takes that to a new level. And does it with the deepest darkest wound in this country's history.
I love this country. I don't remember loving it or hoping more from it than today.

Even the Christian Broadcast Network gave him a nod on this one, color me shocked....

It was divulged that he was up until 2 this morning writing the speech after starting it on Saturday.... He obviously put a lot of heart and thought into it, and what he is about into it. It's unfortunate there are those that cannot see that nor acknowledge the problems that we do in fact still have in this country.

On a colorful note, did everyone watch John McCane on KO tonight? Worst Person of the world award.... and god knows he should now make Joe Lieberman his VP, he'd be doomed without him...

Almost forgot, Obama is giving a press conference tomorrow on the Economy and I believe the Iraq war... I have no time on that though....

I got sucked into the obama speech thread and posted. Somebody stop me please.:headache:

LOL, me too. I've given up debating it since minds won't be changed - we just keep going into circles.

OK guys, comment on KO & John McCane as well as the good nod by the most unconventional sources

Oh & most of the people on that thread are on my ignore feature, so I can't really read what they say, I highly recommend it :)

OT- new jersey..you re gonna cheer for my cardinals this weekend arent you? I'm headed to birmingham to see the games!

Except that he willingly exposed his daughters to these disturbing statements. They are, I believe, 5 and 9. Sad.

Look at that ignore feature working well again LOL.... :rotfl:

Wow, thanks for the KO video! And I loved when McCain said "it's widely reported in the media..." - I thought Conservatives don't trust the "liberal media." ;)
