Who knew he couldn't ad lib? :lmao: I guess it would help if he knew what he believed in or didn't try to hide what he believes in from the voters.

Washington Prowler
Teleprompting Obama

SCREEN SAVORER
According to several Democrat political consultants presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama spent part of his Hawaiian vacation working on weaning himself from a heavy dependence on teleprompters. Even in what are staged as "town hall" events for Obama, remarks are scripted or formatted into bullet points that scroll on teleprompter screens. Obama has had several embarrassing events where the teleprompter either malfunctioned or the screens were not fully visible.

"He just locks down and can't get the words out," says one political consultant. "For such a fine speaker, it's really quite remarkable that he's had issues."

Obama's troubles with unscripted moments contributed to his campaign's refusal to participate in town hall format debates or discussions with Sen. John McCain, who feels much more comfortable in the unscripted moments.

I am looking forward to the day the new President of the United States takes his oath of office and then addresses the nation. No doubt there are some posters here who hope and pray, and perhaps even expect, said President to say during his speech:

“And finally, I would like to thank the dozens of anonymous people who went onto websites like DisBoard and, at no personal risk to themselves, started literally hundreds of threads pointing out my opponent’s shortcomings, whether real or imagined.

These selfless, no-name people literally forsook family, friends and their jobs (but not the paycheck, of course) in order to spend hundreds if not thousands of hours surfing the Internet looking for any posting or news item that hinted at negativity towards my opponent.

Once found, and ignoring the cramping in their wrist signifying early onset of carpal tunnel syndrome, these anonymous posters would quickly open a new, repetitive thread on Disboard, deftly ‘paste’ the link to said article, and then invite one and all to click on said link and so see for themselves how unworthy, how untrustworthy and how creepy my opponent literally was.

I would also like to thank those people who, in pursuit of their dream of somehow mattering to an infinitesimal degree, would spend hours criticizing those who did not believe as they did; would cast aspersion upon those who articulated a contrary opinion; and would gleefully and tirelessly quote the words of thoughts of radio commentators, always remembering to not cite the original source of said quotes or thoughts, but always claiming them as being original to themselves.

It is to these people, known but to God and to the Disney moderators, who helped speed me to victory by changing perhaps half-a-dozen votes to my humble cause. I welcome all votes, whether they come from well-formed voters who make up their own mind, or from those who have their minds made up for them by radio commentators or anonymous posters on anonymous websites.

To these few people, I give my thanks.”

(great applause)

But will Obama be reading this off of a teleprompter?

From the party of "I can't even READ the teleprompter Bush"

I just want to say that I admire the time and energy which you devote to your hobby of monitoring said individuals.

Dubya might not always use the correct word for the meaning, but at least he doesn't have everything fed to him like a bad soap opera actress... :)

:rotfl: I try not to click on these threads. I'm glad I did this time. Thanks for the laugh.

I was a student of Obama's at the University of Chicago (and yes, there he was Professor Obama). I have seen him speak beautifully and extemporaneously on many issues that have come up in this very campaign and do it with no notes and no teleprompter. The man doesn't need it. He is not only eloquent but quick on his feet. He's a phenomenal mind. Most importantly, he listens and responds to what he hears. He doesn't get so bogged down in being right on principle that he can't come up with real answers to real questions.

It's amazing what right-wing nutjob publications will print in an effort to smear Obama's intelligence and grace. The fact that it warranted a thread on this board? Utterly unsuprising. If this is the best that the Republicans can come up with they really need to try much harder. It's also very good to know the quality of the source of the information that is being disseminated on this board.

Take a look at the credentials of the EIC of the American Spectator which operates the Washington Prowler. Of course with such a non-partisan background, there never ever would be any yellow journalism in his publication:

R. EMMETT TYRRELL, Editor-in-Chief
R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr., is founder and editor in chief of The American Spectator. His books include the New York Times bestseller Boy Clinton; The Impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton; The Liberal Crack-Up; The Conservative Crack-Up; Public Nuisances; and The Future that Doesn't Work: Social Democracy's Failure in Britain. A nationally syndicated columnist, his articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Washington Times, National Review, Harper's, Commentary, The (London) Spectator, Le Figaro (Paris), The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, and elsewhere. He is also an adjunct fellow of the Hudson Institute and a contributing editor to the New York Sun.

Again, this is a message board about Walt Disney World. No one should be drawing their conclusions about the presidential race from what is said here or based on ANY poster's opinions. I urge everyone to go to www.barackobama.com and www.johnmccain.com to educate yourselves about the candidate's positions and make your decision based on that.

Those would be the 2 least credible sources of information available! Though I will admit, Obama does at least reveal on his website that he plans to raise taxes on families making $75+ ($100k for seniors). I guess you have to give him honesty points for that.

I've never been a student of Obama, I havent' read his books, and in fact all I know about his speaking ability is what I've seen and heard during these campaigns, and you know what - I'm not very impressed to say the least. You can say all you want about how he was this great off-the-cuff speaker, so relaxed, and so refined; how the right-wing nutjobs are giving him a bad image (but since when is CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC right-wing nutjobs, since those are some of the places I've seen him stutter and mumble and look like he has no idea where he is or what he's saying), you can say all those things that you want, but the fact is that your words don't match his actions.

Those would be the 2 least credible sources of information available!

I take your point. My point is that people should not be basing their decisions about who should be president on how people on a message board are telling them to think. Especially when so many outright lies are being spread. There are plenty of ways to gather information regarding the election that aren't based on smearing a candidate, playing on people's fears, and race and religion-baiting.

People can watch the debates, there will be 3 (plus one for the vice-presidential candidates), to see what Obama and McCain stand for and how they intend to deal with the problems facing us today. But putting something out there from the Washington Prowler as though it is truthful (and worse, as though it is unbiased) is as laughable as arguing that a 97 year old women gave birth to a three-headed alien baby because they read it in Star Magazine. I give much more credit to the intelligence and wisdom of the posters on this message board than the people who post things like this. But with the utter influx of posts like this on a daily basis on this board, I am afraid the noise will outweigh people's better senses. Which is why I am urging people to not base this decision on a "Reader's Digest" of the worst headlines people can find about either candidate. Because for as many Obama smearing articles as there are, there are just as many about McCain. Oddly, those don't seem to get posted.

:confused3 Seriously, are we both listening to the same person?

Please don't twist my words. I have never said that anyone who shows Obama's miscues (and yes, he makes them, he's human and as imperfect as you or I) are right-wing nutjobs. I am saying to look at the source of the information and the content before drawing any conclusions and I am pointing out that the source of the information posted is simply not credible and offering factual information based on personal experience that counters the facts presented in the "article" posted.

I am not saying anyone who supports McCain is bad or misinformed. The founding fathers fought really hard to make sure we have the freedom to make choices about who leads us and everyone on this board and everywhere else to make whatever choice we want. I am just urging people to not base their decision on what one (or several or hundreds even) of people on a message board say without actually taking the time to look at the issues and candidates for themselves. Some people don't do that. They go based on the prevailing winds. And given the level of misinformation that's out there on some of the threads on this boards, I feel like it's worth reminding people that they can and should think for themselves about what is an enormous decision no matter which way they go.

sugahjunior, you are my new hero! :worship:

Wise words spoken with a soft voice. Thanks for that. ;)
