Nyquil/Dayquil formula now?

So, when I was younger Nyquil/Dayquil worked like a charm for helping a cold. But didn't they change the formula? Did it used to include pseuodoephedrine? I can't remember. I know you can get Sudafed behind the counter, but for a cold it helped to have all those ingredients together in the Nyquil. It seems that the last time I've been to the drug store they didn't even have the option of buying Nyquil behind the counter. I can't seem to find anything that really helps cold symptoms anymore.

You can thank the meth heads for that.

I believe they changed their formula about ten years ago.

I used to take a dose of Nyquil and I would be down for the count. Now, I can take Nyquil in the morning at work and it has no effect on me at all.

I swear by the pseudoephedrine!!!

I imagine that this has been a long time since this was in these products. Yep, due to the Meth... Thing is, I hear the HUGE percentage of meth is actually coming into the country..

Anyhow, I go to CVS and get their brand of COLD AND SINUS RELIEF.
You do have to sign for it! And, I do like this CVS pharmacy brand.
This works for me... not really for colds, but allergies, sensitivities, etc...
I have called it my magic pill !!!

It has 30mg pseudoephedrine
and 200 mg ibuprofen
Per caplet... Sometimes I split them in half.

I think that one thing that the Nyquil has that this does not is the Guaifanesin (?)

We have the generic sudafed at home and my husband just recently came down with a bad cold. His head is congested and doesn't seem to be clearing even with the sudafed. His nose isn't running at all. It says to only take one pill at a time but he is a bigger guy so I'm thinking maybe he needs to take 2 to have an effect.

Maybe I'll try to look for the cold and sinus relief.

I swear by Advil Cold and Sinus (it's in a yellow box) and Mucinex Extreme cough and cold. They've gotten me through 3 weeks of bronchitis.

I fully believe that ADVIL is the maker of the CVS brand that I use.
They look the very same, just a different shade of color for the caplet.
I do believe that brand (and name-vs-generic) make a difference.

And isn't Mucinex the Guaifinesin?

That would be the ticket.

But if I took all those ingredients, it would knock me out cold!!! :faint:

The Walgreens near us has a generic version of Nyquil-D (cherry-flavored) behind the counter. My husband swears by that stuff (it keeps me awake all-night so I don't even try it anymore).

Mucinex-D the behind the counter one with the pseudoephedrine works great during the day. It's the 12 hour formula. It dries you up enough so you're not sneezing, blowing your nose as much. It does make you thirsty though.
NyQuil still works for me.

For me Dayquil is about as useless as taking Tylenol for a migraine. Nyquil doesn't really relieve any of my symptoms either but it knocks me out so I don't have to deal with the symptoms.

yep it seems to me NyQuil doesn't works as good as it did before, and Whoppers seemed bigger

Is it the real Sudafed from behind the counter or Sudafed PE? The Sudafed PE doesn't do a darn thing! You need the real stuff (can be generic but not the PE stuff.)

Yep it was the real stuff from behind the counter.

I went and picked up the Advil Cold and Sinus last night and that did seem to help, so thank you all for the great suggestions! Stay healthy!
