Just booked a last minute NYE/30th b-day getaway :earboy2:

I was thinking of spending NYE at the studios but was wondering if anyone had some dining ideas for NYE? We were thinking of going to Brown Derby but am not fond of set menus as is usually the case for holidays. I know the California Grill holds a rather upscale soirée. Anybody have experience with this?

The party at the CG is fantastic. We have been twice and will probably go again. It is expensive but the bar is open and they pour whatever you want. They have some wonderful champage and a cavier bar. The kitchen is open as well and you can meet and mingle with the chefs as you get your food. There are gambling table set up that you win tickets for the raffle. There is a dj and several other performers that come and go. If you decide to go you will have a wonderful time.

The only specials normally for NYE are at the California Grill and they will set up a special buffet in World Showlace at Epcot. Also the restaurants are open late.

Can you say more about this? FH and I are going to go some year in the future (not this year or the next!) and I'm always trying to find out more. Do they pour from the wine list? How many kids are there? (we prefer as few as possible at our "adult" events since we're childfree..) Is the food from the menu, do they prepare whatever you'd like, etc?

If you don't mind my asking - how expensive?

It's $400 per person

They pour from the wine list but they also have some "special" ($$$) wines just for that evening. Sorry, but the only one I remember by name was a Krug (sp?) champagne that has spoiled me for life.

The first year we went there was a large South American group that had some children with them. They stayed with their family and did not bother us and I agree with you that I don't want kids around an adult evening. The second year there were no children that I remember. I believe that was the year they started charging full price for children.

They have some items from the regular menu but add many more. There is a huge sushi bar and a huge dessert bar. You go back into the kitchen and fill your own plate. You can have filet and lobster all night if you wish.

Sounds fantastic! I really can't wait until we have the chance to go.
