NYE foods for home party

So, get a whole deli-size dill pickle? This sounds good! I've never heard of this. Is it a regional "recipe" or did you make this up? Wow, I'm thinking of salami instead of ham...the possibilities are endless, LOL.

These are a big hit around here as well!

We do appetizers, too. We're having steamed shrimp, crab and shrimp dip (a Sandra Lee recipe), olive and cheese tray, Drunk Dawgs, spinach dip and veggies, cream cheese and pepper jelly, and a chocolate chip cheese ball. My older DD and I will have Moscato d'Asti, and the 17 year old will have sparkling white grape juice.

First, it's a play on names since the recipe uses bourbon, but we're also UGA fans and, as such, follow the good dawg rule of alcohol consumption on gamedays. :lmao:

Drunk Dawgs
large package Lil Smokies
3/4c brown sugar
3/4c ketchup
3/4c bourbon
Mix all and heat in an electric skillet. It gets sticky and glazed and oh so yummy.

Ok picklewraps

Take any type of sliced ham spread with cream cheese add dill pickle and roll up. stick in toothpicks and cut into bite size pieces.

If we don't make these for every party I think we would get univited!! even to our own party!!:rotfl2:

We make this but a bit different. We use pickle spears and cut them into thirds (length wise). And we use dried beef that comes in the jar (near the vienna sausages at the grocery stores). Just be aware...this is *very salty. I can only eat 2 or 3 and then I literally gag from the salt lol But they are SO good ;)

we use the budding beef - in the deli - the bags of really thin sliced cheap priced I thought we used beef anyway

and we use gherkins - the sweet pickles

if you take a pickle spear, we cut that lengthwise so its thin. TAke a whole pickle, cut it in half, take a half pickle, cut it in thirds at least

Spread the cream cheese on the thin meat
put the pickle down
roll - because the pickle is small, thin - we use that shorter Budding Ham slices, so we tuck it tight while we roll

Then we cut it into thirds add toothpicks

OK - I googled

for me this ham is too big, thick, the pickle needs to be cut down to thirds at least for our family

This finished product to me has dill pickles we like the darker sweeter gherkins, but for our pickle wraps - well this one is much to fat, we like our pickles thinner!!

and while I was googling, I found another appetizer we have to have!! :rotfl2:

NOT budget I suppose, but I bought shrimp on sale - our grocery store gave me a $10 coupon, so I used it on a $17 bag of shrimp! That shrimp cost $7!! :rotfl2:

That bacon wrapped shrimp reminded me of another good appetizer...halve jalepenos, de-seed, spread cream cheese on it, wrap in bacon then cook until the bacon is done. We usually only do these during the summer and cook them on the grill. They are so good!

Do you make your pizza bites? If so, how do you do it?

Well, "bites" is really just what I call them. They're more "rolls" than mini-pizzas, which may be what you're imagining. I'm a bit too lazy for real mini-pizza creations. And the answer is, with Pilsbury crescent roll dough, pepperoni, pizza sauce and mozzerella. Just the classic recipe of putting stuff on the dough, rolling, cutting into rounds and baking. Nothing spectacular.

My friend makes a version of these! She cuts the jalepeno in half, spreads with cream cheese, puts a strip of bacon on top and then bakes in the oven. Yum.

This year for NYE we're serving:

-veggies and dip (Harry & David sundried tomato)
-cheese and crackers
-egg rolls (Costco)
-chicken thai meatballs (a friend is making them, never had them before!)
-ham and cheese sandwiches (friend making these, they're baked)
-sausage dip (some call this "man dip"- it's crumbled sausage, cheeze whiz, chilis and a can of rotel. I know the cheez whiz sounds gross but the dip is amazing! serve with tortilla chips)
-brownie bites (half frosted with peppermint frosting and topped with candy cane pieces, the other half just vanilla frosting)
-snickerdoodles

I think there will be more than that. That's the list for what I'm making and two of the girls coming. We'll have about 15-20 people I think.

We usually do New Year Day because we are really not night people; but with the different schedules this year we are doing NYE.

Meatballs
Pigs in Blanket
Chips & Cheese Dip
4 layer delight for dessert

Google The Pioneer Woman's Holiday Bacon Appetizers. I made these for the first time on Christmas Eve and they were delicious! Basically, you put a teaspoon of Parmesan cheese on a Club cracker and wrap it with a half a piece of bacon. Put on a rack on a baking sheet for two hours at 250 degrees. YUMMY!

I made these for Christmas Day and OMG...so fabulous!

Will make more this weekend.

Also making pickle dip, taco dip, meatballs, etc.

We will have a half dozen 17/18 year old boys in addition to about as many adults, so I'm cooking in bulk.... big pot of chili with fixins, crock pot of queso with chips, trays of cookies. Small appetizers wouldn't last ten minutes with these guys.

We do the bacon wrapped shrimp as well, but drizzle Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce on them before we bake them. So
yummy!!

New Years we are going simple. Homemade pizza, party subs, chips and dips, cheese and crackers.

For Christmas we had:

Meatballs in the crockpot-Used frozen in a sauce I make our of 2 packets brown or mushroom grave mix, 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, a cup or so of milk, large squirt of ketchup, one finely chopped onion and a tsp of dried dill. People love them.

Wings
Crab Rangoons-frozen
Mini chimichangas-frozen
Pizza bites-frozen
Mini pigs in a blanket-use mini franks, wrapped in 1/3 of a crescent roll and baked
Dill pickle roll ups-We use deli ham spread with cream cheese and a whole clausen pickle. When rolled up tight into a roll no tooth picks are needed. I slice them in rounds that are about 1/3 inch thick.
Chips and dip
Crackers and a cheese log
Totilla chips and salsa
Veggies and dip
Cookie trays
