So, decided this weekend to head to Aulani for New Year's. So far got, 12/29 and 12/30 in a 1BR OV and 1/1-14 in 1BR Island View. Am waitlisted for a 1BR, either ocean or Island for the 31st. Have had pretty good luck with waitlists at high demand times in the past but not sure with Aulani. What do you think?

I would make other arrangements for the 31st! I can't imagine too many people would be cancelling NYE reservations, and you don't know how many are ahead of you on the waitlist.

I hope it comes through, though. It will be wonderful to spend NYE in Hawaii!

Unfortunately, you cannot pay cash to make a reservation at Aulani at this time (unless you want to make a reservation on the hotel side.) Hopefully, that will change when they open the resort.

There is just no track record for Aulani yet. Who knows what your chances are? Did you check for a Standard view 1BR too? Have you considered a studio for 12/31? Then if your WL doesn't come through you'll at least have a room for the night. I would imagine a hotel room on New Years Eve will be expensive in Hawaii.

You could book a hotel on Waikiki beach for the 29th, 30th & 31, then move to Aulani. We have spent many NYE at the Outrigger on the Beach & the fireworks are fantastic! That way you would only have to move once if NYE does not come thru. Hopefully we'll be there again this year!

Thanks Murphy. That's the back up plan. We stayed at the Outrigger Reef when they completed their renovation and loved it. We're going to be in Hawaii from the 29th-6th and my preference is to stay Aulani from the 29th-4th and then Waikiki the 4th-6th.

I know when we visited Aualani last month, a bunch of the DVC employees all had the rooms booked for NYE. (the 3 bedroom went the fastest.)

I would definitely have a back up plan! :)

good luck!! and enjoy.. it is so beautiful!!

Getting closer. Now have a 1BR island view 12/29-31 and again 1/1-1/6. We are waitlisted for the night of the 31st. Worse case scenario, we store most of our luggage and head to Waikiki for New Year's Eve at Trump Waikiki in an oceanview room. I'll call it a Staycation on my Vacation. Not bad at all for booking over the holidays at 5 months out.

Yipppeee!!! The waitlist came through today so I was able to put together 12/29-1/6. Awesome!

Congratulations on the waitlist coming through! I haven't even thought about NYE yet but after reading this post I was wondering if Disney is planning something special.

I believe Koolina does a firework show on NYE already.

But a Disney firework show.....I would be there in a heartbeat.
