NYC Parking help!

Crazyme5kids, I had to tell you that I laughed when you were referred to as a regular tourist. I had to see how far you traveled. It gave me a good laugh. As another regular tourist, who used to lived in the city as well as downtown Manhattan, I agree with you. Parking like anything else can be found and reasonably priced, as well as parking on the street if you investigate. We always go to the AMNH, park on the street, right outside the museum because of the alternate side of the street parking rules. You just have to do some research, like we all do for our trips to the mouse.

OP, Whatever you decide, have a great day in Manhattan.

I haven't seen anyone else claiming you can just regularly park in midtown for $25 or $30 a day whenever you like, with no restrictions. Possibly because you kind of can't.

We drive in about once a month and have never paid more than $50 to park. Last month we parked at the garage on 42nd and 10th for about $25.

I would drive in and park somewhere right off the westside highway or fdr depending on your plans for the day. It's around $35 a day in my neighborhood, I am on the eastside and not in a touristy area. Of course in the Times Square area you will pay more. Not sure why the squabble over a $20 span in parking fees. :confused3

Enjoy your visit! :)

Condescending? Sorry if I came across that way to you. Honestly, perhaps there was a little coming from you too, which it why I responded the way I did.

I just am trying to figure out why you always post about parking being $50.00. Go back and read my question. I did state that some places charge that price, but you can find parking cheaper, and not just by getting early bird rates. You feel these garages don't exist.

Will I start posting links etc... to these garages? No, other people have in this thread as well as other threads, and you still insist that garages charge $50.00 plus. So, my posting links will not change your mind.

I'm sorry if you don't believe me, or other posters, but there is nothing I can do about that. People should do some research. Then they can decide for themselves if the information you, me or someone else has posted is accurate.

You know what else? When I am researching a trip, sometimes some of the best information and tips I have gotten has been from other "tourist".

We're back!!!! Thank you to everyone that chimed in about parking in the city v. taking the train.

We ended up parking in the city (6th Ave at W. 28th?) and paid $26.00 with a coupon I printed from AAA

I was very conflicted even while driving whether to park v. train. Ultimately the boys were behaving in the back seat so I decided to drive as far as we could. It wasn't bad at all!!! I could see the benefit in taking the train, but it was cheaper (26.00 v. 56.00) and we could leave when we wanted, I didn't need to wait for the train to come

I did manage to get to the Disney Store in Times Sq. I had never been before, but the store was ok. Lots of NYC/Disney themed stuff, but I couldn't find a shirt in my size 1x-2x. I was also disappointed there was no house stuff.

World Trade Center monument was beautiful but very time consuming-you have to get tickets about 8 blocks away, then wait in 2 seperate lines, go through security and then walk almost another block or so. But very touching. Honestly when I came to the first fountain I it just took my breath away at the enormity of it.

Thanks Again!

Glad you had a good time! You must have been exhausted by the time you got home though. Did the kids have fun?

I'm glad you had a great time and was able to find one of the "many" garages that accept coupons and you can get a great rate at.

My hubby travels to NYC many times a month and has NEVER paid more then $30 usually it's between $18 and $25.

My DD has doctors in Manhattan, and we have to drive because she is recovering from her 2nd knee replacement.

I have been using an APP on my new iPhone to find the cheapest parking! It is called "Best Parking", or BestParking.com It seems to be working, saved us a fair amount of $$. (upper east side area, around York and 70-73rd streets, depends on the particular dr) Also used Waze for traffic.

If you belong to AAA you could go to their website and type in "Parking discounts". You simply pick which lot you want and print your coupon. You may be able to get an even better rate with the coupon than using your iPhone

Cornflake,

The parking rates you posted are for 666 Fifth Ave --- a PREMIUM location. There are many, many parking garages where you pay $15 or less for 12 hours of parking, weekdays AND weekends ---- no coupon, no early-bird.

You may live here, but you're not very knowledgable about getting the best prices.
