We just booked a last minute vacation - we are leaving in about 2 weeks for a cruise out of Jacksonville for 5 nights. We've been checking airfares but it looks like we are driving (2A+3Kids) to save some $$ because its the school vacation week.

Our ship leaves Sat 4pm, we were thinking of leaving Long Island around 7pm on Friday and driving straight through (taking turns) or possibly stopping somewhere along the way???

Any thoughts? We've driven from LI - WDW twice but we had no time frame to worry about - we were staying 7 days. I'm more worried about the trip down as the ship will leave w/ or w/out us! Coming home I'm in no rush!! :)

That's a long ride. If you've never done it before, I wouldn't recommend driving that distance in one straight shot overnight.

not sure where you are on LI...I'm in holbrook...drove down once to visit my sister in st augustine....which i think is about an hour south of jacksonville....we did it straight through ..with food/potty stops...left at around 5am.....took about 16 hours....but we were lucky and hit no traffic or bad weather

You're not leaving any extra time if you leave at 7pm. It's probably 16 hours plus any stops, traffic, weather slowdowns, etc. Since you can probably get on the ship at 11a-12p, why not plan to get down there earlier? Explore the ship, eat some lunch, take a nap...and give yourself extra time in case of delays.
