can anyone recommend their best ALMOST budget hotel in or near manhattan for a 3 to 6 night stay for 3 people?

I wrote almost budget since always looking for safe and clean, if that exists in nyc on a budget. rotfl:

We just booked a stay at the embassy suites in secacus, nj.

Free parking if you have a car, free breakfast. There is a bus to head into NYC, which is just a few miles away.

Even with bus fare, we come out ahead when we compared it to what was available in the city.

I was going to post something similar to this. There are 4 of us and Mom will be 81 when we go so we want to be close to things.

Almost every hotel in NYC is within a few blocks of a subway, and if you stick to Manhattan it should be safe regardless of the time of day. A lot of people gravitate towards staying around Times Sq because they presume its the only way to be close to everything, but you can stay in Soho or the Upper West Side for much cheaper and it's just a 10min ride on the subway to get to Times Sq etc. I'd recommend going on Expedia and putting in your dates and sorting by price - anywhere 3 stars or above in Manhattan is generally a good bet. You can read all the recent reviews too and see how much the pluses/negatives would apply to you :goodvibes

We really enjoyed staying at the Roosevelt. It was in midtown Manhattan. Very close to Grand Central Station. We thought the location couldn't be beat for anything!

"like them on Facebook" and you will start to see some of their specials.

what about hoboken? I"m googling and don't see any hotels in hoboken. weird right? then we can take the boat over.....

I've read allot of people on Trip Advisor recommending hotels in Long Island City. It's just a short subway ride away, and the hotels are supposed to be much cheaper. Or check Travel Zoo for hotel discounts.

There is one hotel in Hoboken, and it is NOT cheap. You may have better luck in Jersey City, especially downtown.

We stayed in Long Island City. It's only a subway stop away from Manhattan and way cheaper. Our hotel was the Holiday Inn Manhattan View.
