Hello!

I am going to NYC next month and have yet to book the hotel. Not only is this a last minute trip but the hotel prices are crazy!

The average price is $350-400 a night :scared1:

Which is NOT okay for a college student.

I want to find a cheap hotel near a subway line that is not more than 10 mins by subway to times square.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I've looked at all the discount sites and can't find anything decent with a decent price! My limit is $200 a night

Priceline...we've gotten great deals in Times Square. Well under your $200 budget. Check out www.biddingfortravel.com to see what bids have been winning.

Hotwire is worth a look as well.

We stayed at the Doubltree in JErsey City last Sept for $100/night through priceline. It was a 5 minute walk to the train and under 10 minute train ride into the WTC area. It was a great hotel. Super comfy beds, big rooms and great staff.

I just stayed at the Roger Smith Hotel in Midtown (on Lexington) a few weeks ago, got it for $136 on hot-wire about 3 days before (for sat night stay). Great location, 2 blocks from Grand Central, just took the shuttle over to Times square. I would recommend it. :thumbsup2

Try airbnb.com They have great deals and you can even rent an apartment for about $100/night. A friend of mine just spent a week in an apartment close to Central Park.

If you are not too fussy about your hotel - try the Hotel Carter - is right in midtown and super cheap (husband stayed there during the NY Marathon last year - was apparently a bit noisy and the electrics didn't work fully - but he was more concerned with resting before the race to even go to the front desk and complain!!!?????)

Days Inn Hotel on 94th Street is ok if you can get availability - right by the subway and easy to get from there to Times Square.

If its just you and you're prepared to share a bathroom then the Pod Hotel looks really nice. (and is cheap if you share a bathroom)

(all of the above should be less than your $200 / night - but it will depend on actual dates). Good luck and have fun

One problem is the last minute booking. However, you can easily find a decent hotel in NYC for a lot less than $350-400 a night. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square in June for $199 a night (booked 2 months in advance with a govt. discount). You may have to ride the subway longer than 10 minutes, but that shouldn't be a problem. Look and see if you are eligible for any discounts, such as through AAA. Also, try Priceline.

Have you looked for any hotels in LIC? The 7 train stops right there, so it's 5 min to Grand Central and maybe 10 to Times Square.

The area has been really built up lately and there are tons of nice restaraunts there also. May also mean the hotel rates have gone up, but it's worth a try.

have your tried the Hilton garden Inn in Time square not sure of thier rates now but when I went they were the best price great location and rooms are bigger than your average NYC hotel room plus they have queen size beds!
