NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

Thanks for your replies.

We're just doing a non-stop from Boston which is a quick 1hr. We plan on doing carry on too. I rather not fly in the night before and stay in a hotel and I don't really think it's necessary since it's such a short flight. I read that you're not allowed in until your designated boarding time. Just don't want to arrive super early at the cruise terminal with my 2 young ones and have nothing to do, esp. if the weather is cold, rainy, etc.

we will be doing the same flight just the following week-9/12....more nervous about catching our return flight at 11:30 in nj than coming in at 11am on arrival day.

How are you getting from JFK to boat? How come you're not flying out of JFK when going home?

we bought disney transfers...disney rep told me that as long as our plane was in by noon....they would make sure that we made it to the ship....as for newark...other dis friends say it is easier than traffic to jfk....plus the 12:30 flight was a lot more than 11:30 in nj. can't wait to read about your trip:thumbsup2

Is it possible to buy disney transfers on the ship? Reason I ask is because I want to take the debarkation excursion but in the event that it is cancelled, then I want a back up plan!

I've been told to go with the DIS transfers rather than a cab because of they'll make sure you get to the ship, but it's a $70 price difference. I wonder if it's possible to do one way transfers and cab it back.....

Yes I believe you can get one way transfers. they are $35 per person one way. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but you could always call DCL and ask. Happy Cruising !

I would ask either your TA or DCL, but I'm pretty sure that I've heard that you can book return transfers while on the cruise.

You can definitely book just 1 way transfers.

For our NYC cruise, the transfers were $36 per person, each way. :)

I think we were ripped off by the taxi driver from Times Square to the port. He didn't seem to know where he was going, I had to show him the address in the cruise documents. It cost me $18 inc the tip for what was such a short distance that we actually walked it with our luggage when we got off the ship and went back to the same hotel!

That being said, we have had a fantastic time - got back to England today from a night flight so exhausted, jet lagged etc, but the cruise was fabulous and the 5 days in New York afterwards were fantastic.

Welcome back, Jody!! It was great to meet you on the cruise! :sunny: I'm glad that you had a good time in NYC afterwards. :)

Does anyone know if you can take DCL transfers to/from the airport if you are not flying that day. We cancelled our transfers since we are taking NJT train from Central NJ. We thought that if we got off the train at Newark Airport, we could get the DCL transfer bus to NYC. My reasoning is, two seniors 66+ might need luggage handling help.

Check the forum I think someone posted today about their experience with this. I believe it's titled "FYI for those using transfers sailing from NYC"

That'd be me! Here's a link to that thread:

I don't see why not as I'm flying in the day before. The hotel offers a free shuttle to/from airport so I'm going to hotel the day before and back to airport that morning to catch the DCL transportation.

You might have to find a plane landing at Newark that morning and give it to them as "your flight info" as the computer may demand a flight to process the request. But that's easy enough.

This is all correct. Just don't choose an early-morning flight arrival unless you plan to be there early! :lmao:

(Hey, at least I can laugh about it! And it didn't effect our cruise at all). :sunny:

Glad you had a great time! Just wondering which hotel you stayed at that was close enough to walk to the port? Thanks for the info!

Please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered--how does the DCL transfer from port to airport work? I have read this thread here and there but didn't seriously consider using DCL transport until recently so I'm not sure if I read about it earlier. Do we have to retrieve our luggage at the port and then take it to the DCL bus/van? Or, did they work out something like they did in Orlando where you put your luggage outside your stateroom and then it magically appears at your home airport? Thanks!

By the way, our family of 5 is staying at the Hotel Stanford in Koreatown. It was one of the few hotels which allow 5 in one room.

It was the Crowne Plaza in Times Square on 49th street. We disembarked practically opposite 49th, so just walked up 5-6 blocks. Took us about 15 minutes.

We also walked from there to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd to get the bus to Newark Airport when we left.

Glad you had fun and enjoyed your 5 days in New York as well - we have 5 nights post cruise for our trip in August too. Out of interest are you also on the PTS forum? I recognise your screen name - I was a PTS regular in the glory days of Clubcarding but am now only an occassional visitor.
