NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

I do not post a lot,but I have been around for a long time, and love DCL and DVC and DisBoards, and would like a tag,if possible.

Having been blessed by the tag fairy back in 2009, we've been blessed with another grandbaby. I would if the tag fairy would update mine a little. Proud grandparents of Isabella Grace & Cullen Ryan

(and no, my kids did not watch Twilight) lol.

To those traveling from NJ, I got a great rate from a car service. We are going the end of August and are in Monmouth County. I got a rate of 99.00 (includes taxes and tolls) plus 20.00 for minimum tip in an SUV.

I called and got a quote over the phone, and then got a written one in email (it didn't come immediatley, but it did come). This is cheaper for us then parking so we are going for it. Hope it helps someone else!

Hi from Ocean County....we are on a 2 night in June, so we are either parking in my DH work lot in Brooklyn and taking a cab or just parking at the port...it only 2 nights...
But that seems like a great rate.....enjoy your cruise....:wizard:

I swear I have tried to find the answers to these questions by searching this thread, but I found nothing.

1) How long of a walk is it from the port parking garage to the port checkin building?

2) Does the port parking garage ever fill up?

3) Is the port parking charged per night or by day? For example, if I park there for an 8 night cruise, from Saturday to Sunday, will it be $240 or $270?

Thanks!:goodvibes

From what I have read (and I haven't been there yet, so I can't say from experience) there is enough parking, although it may be more difficult if you get there before the cruise people before you leave and open up their parking spots...

Based on our experience at the Baltimore Cruise terminal, it was a charge per night. So for the 8 night cruise, it would be $35 x 8 = $280. Usually they collect from you right when you enter the lot (so they get your money before you spend it on the ship!). Again, that is our Baltimore experience, however, and it could be different in NYC

Hope that helped some!

We are staying at INK48 the night before our cruise. They say very short walk to pier from hotel. Looking at it on google earth does appear to be short walk down 48th street. My question is how do you enter terminal from there? It looks like we would have a traffic light at end of 48th so can cross over I guess Hudson River Greenway/ 12th street but then i do not see a sidewalk on the other side and where entrance is - only fence around terminal area. Which street is the entrance on? I see that cars go in at 54th but do walkers have to go all the way up there? (if so, it may be a taxi ride for us!) Any help would be greatly appreciated on walking directions or any other ideas how to get to terminal without having to get a taxi for that short distance. Thank you for your help!!!!

BTW, I thought DCL website said parking was $30/night?

We are staying at the Crowne Plaza on 49th and Broadway the night before and are curious about walking to the port as well. Anyone have any knowledge about this?

Where is that info on the DCL website? In the planning library it only has info on air/ground transportation for Alaska, Bahamas/Caribbean and Mexican Riviera? ANd only directions for LA and Cape Canaveral?
(I did find the information at the port's website, but I would like to see what Disney has to say!)

It was under "Bahamas ports of call" under NYC. It gives you the port's address and directions.

As the crow flies, it's a short walk (less than a mile) however I would just hop in a cab. For me, I don't want to schlep my luggage any more than I need to!!

But it's a straight shot so it is easy in that regard. NYC streets are kind that way :)

I just replied to the person staying at INK....your hotel is a bit further than theirs. As I said in that post, it is a straight shot, walking wise, but you need to decide if you are comfortable doing what would be about a 20 minute+ walk with luggage etc.

Taxis are reasonably priced in NY and depending on what day you are leaving, traffic won't be bad.

(ie: midday/weekday more traffic....weekend not so much generally)

Hope this helps

Hmm, that is a hard decision. We would need two cabs. There are 6 of us with luggage but all on wheels (all adults). Walk does look easy but I just don't see where we can get actually in to the terminal - all I see is fence. Does anyone know if there is an entrance into the terminal area at the end of 48th? Thanks!

This is the answer I received from the Port of Manhattan regarding pedestian entrance to Magic:

"The gates will be open. Enter 48, 51, or 55."

Looks like walking would definately be an option for us!

Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks for getting the answer! :thumbsup2

We're on the June 15th, 2-day so we will each only have a rolling carry on. Now, I just need to find a good breakfast joint that's on the way. :cool1:

Hey - get her all ready for us as we are on June 17th!!! :cool2: We may pass you at the gate! Let me know if you find that breakfast place - we have been looking also. Our hotel sent me a breakfast menu and it is expensive!!!! (Print Restaurant so that is why). We plan on eating as soon as we board so we don't need a lot but gotta have at least danishes/ muffins and some coffee for sure!! We may end up at the hotel if we don't find anything. When I "walked" down the street on google earth, I haven't found too much yet for us along our route.
