NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

Realizing it may be a personal preference, I would always rather be as center as possible, even if it's a little further back. The front rows are almost too close to see anything happening toward the back of the stage, so you're really only looking at 5-6 rows difference then.

This was my inclination as well, but wanted someone else to say it to make me feel justified. :-) Also more concerned with my dd11 being stuck behind someone taller and not having a good view which was why I was considering the side seats so that she'd be on the outside, but think we'll go with those center ones...now to decide....Mary Poppins only? Or Mary Poppins and Peter? Decisions, decisions..:rotfl:

I'm sorry guys, I got distracted. I saw discussion of Peter and the Starcatcher and thought I was in the Broadway thread :rotfl2:

Hmmm, no last edited note. I accidentally posted a review of another show in the wrong thread.

Ok...Broadway fans....I'm looking at Peter and the Starcatcher, Brooks Atkinson Theatre.....

which would you choose...

11 rows back middle or closer (1st 7 rows are available) but on the outside section of seats but the first two inside seats??

Prefer center to the side. In some shows closer is not always better. Sorry I haven't seen either of these so I can't comment on the show. I saw that you posted you were concerned about your daughter being able to see, so theaters have booster seats. I am vertically challanged and often wondered if I could get one.:rotfl2:

Thanks everyone. We have tickets - 1st night to Mary Poppins, last night to Peter and the Starcatchers.

Hope I'm posting in the right place! I just decided today to look for a family cruise out of NY for summer 2013, perhaps to Canada, but open to ideas. I found DCL info for 2012 out of NY, but nothing for 2013. Am I looking in the wrong places or are there no DCL cruises out of NY in 2013?

No DCL cruises out of NYC in 2013 - sorry. The Magic will be heading to the Mediterranean for Summer 2013.

I just checked in my office drawer and found my TRANSIT New York Popout Map. More than 15 years ago it cost $2.95 at a Hallmark Store in lower Manhattan.

A more recent purchase was the Geographia (Map Company) QuikFinder, Midtown Manhattan ($6.95) that shows points of interest, hotels, theaters and cinemas, parks, restaurants, prominent stores, transportation, etc.

Is that a subway map??? I'm a motorman (drive trains) and maps have been updated in the past 15 years

Does anyone know for certain if there will be fireworks on the New England/Canada itineraries? The Pirate Party in Alaska was kind of disappointing (even though I know and understand why they are prohibited from having fireworks there). The other thing about the Alaska cruise was the sound levels had to be kept so low that on the Tracy Arm day I could hardly hear the commentary when I was on deck

We are staying at the Four Points by Sheraton in Long Island City the night before we cruise. Our cruise leaves on a Friday. We will drive and park at the pier. Should I anticipate a lot of traffic? Is it a reasonably easy drive to the pier?

Depends on what time. You will encounter more traffic during the early morning hours before 10. BUT there will still be traffic at any hour on a Friday.

As for driving to the port it is relatively easy. Once you're over the Queensboro/59th St Bridge you just head west right off the bridge. At some point make a left & then a right onto 55th St. Just drive until you can't anymore and make a left into the terminal.

Just a note...I just received a notice and code from Broadway Box that Peter and the StarCatchers is now open through July 4 and it had a discount code as well for $99 orchestra/front mezzanine and $59 middle/rear mezzanine.

I'm considering it but we already have Mary Poppins tickets.....but we may never go back to NYC .... :rotfl:

THANK YOU! I bought four orchestra tickets today for 6/1 Mary Poppins and saved a ton of money! So happy to have one NY activity planned now.

Now that we have our port arrival time set, time to plan on how to get there. I avoid the city like the plague that being said I am thinking car service will be our best option. Have 3 generations me, dd (21) and mom (mid 70's), we live in central jersey so taking a train to Penn Station and then cabbing it will be a gigantic hassle cheap but a hassle. Three women on a cruise you know there will be a lot of suitcases :)

Does anyone know a good car service in central jersey? I starting calling a few places. Driving and parking would be the about the same amount.

Our arrival time is 12-1230 don't want to stress in the morning, so I am thinking leaving our house at 11:00 am would give us plenty of time, according to map quest it is 26 miles and 45 minutes. It is a Saturday in June I am dreading the tunnel.

Any thoughts?

Try VEI in Aberdeen or Arrow in Redbank. I'm not sure how their pricing is but I know people that have used them and have been happy. Years ago I went on a cruise out of NY and there were 5 of us and we did a van to the port and it worked out great. So much easier than driving in or taking the train. The people we used that time are no longer in business so I also have to look into one for our trip at the end of June. I don't think you will have much trouble on a Saturday unless there is something big going on. Alot of time people leave the city in the summer months on the weekends.

Does anyone know if the parking at the pier ever fills up? If it does what time would be a good time to arrive to assure a space. Is it best to arrive early or later once the people from previous cruises leaves?

Well after all of my planning for the Marriott Marquis, tonight the four of us were talking, and checking Amtrak fare and then someone mentioned FLYING from Boston to NY.NJ.

I went on the JetBlue website and got round trip tickets for $49 each way!

So.... I grabbed the plane tickets, and now I need to find a hotel as close to EWR (Newark Airport) as possible, since we will be taking DCL transportation from EWR to the ship the next morning.

Any recommendations? I see that the Marriott has a hotel right on the airport premises and that's ideally what I want. But before I book it, I wanted to post here to see what everyone has to say/experiences to share.

Thanks! :surfweb:
YIPEEEEEEEE :cool1:
