Hi everyone-

Well, here I am again........ planning another trip to NYC.

I'm looking for suggestions for shows to see while we're there. Or opinions about what I'm thinking about seeing.

I'm considering : Movin' Out (Billy Joel music), Aida (Elton John/Tim Rice music), Chicago, Hairspray, The Boy from Oz, Wicked.

Any thoughts or opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

TIA........

they are all supposed to be great! I know my sister would give her right arm to be front and center for "Boy From Oz". One of her Dis User names is HughJackmanNMe!

I'm hoping that he'll still be in it, but as we're planning our trip for July- I'm not too hopeful.

Keep your fingers crossed though!!!

If Hugh Jackman is still in The Boy from Oz (and you can get tickets), that's the play. I've seen Movin' Out....it's good...but not earth moving. Chicago, Hairspray and Wicked are all good....of the three my favorite was Wicked though I think Chicago and Hairspray were better received. I haven't seen Aida so I can't comment on it.

Saw Hairspray, excellent. REALLY hard to get tickets.

Wicked is suppost to be great.

Also saw Producers, another excellent show.

Next on our list is Mama Mia.

Hugh Jackman should still be in "The Boy From Oz". I know he's committed to it for a year and I think the run started in Oct. Hopefully, he won't change his contract. Having been front (well, 5 rows from the stage) and center, I can tell you he's marvelous. The play - not so much. But he's amazing.

Other recommendations: "The Lion King" - the costumes are worth it alone. "Wicked" has been getting great reviews. Whether this is due to Kristin Chenowith and Idinia Menzel being in it or if it's the strength of the play alone, I'm not sure. "Chicago" is good fun. There's always "RENT" and "42nd Street". In fact, I highly recommend the latter.

If you haven't seen Chicago yet, it fantastic! Don't be expecting ANYTHING along the lines of the movie, but it's great!

Also, I'd highly reccomend Aida.

Movin' Out is comming to Pittsburgh in May :) I wanna see it on Broadway too, though. I saw Rent in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. What an amazing show. :D I heard the one on Broadway was better, though.

I want to see Mamma Mia because I recently saw one of the (very gorgeous) cast members in another show. But I've also heard Wicked is amazing. I've seen Aida and it was absolutely wonderful, gotta love it! Have fun in NYC!

Don't know if either of these have been mentioned yet, but Urinetown and Thouroghly Modern Millie were amazing when we were saw them. I wasn't looking forward to seeing Urinetown, but in the end, I LOVED it! Millie is more family appropriate to me, but both were wonderful.

FYI, Urinetown closed back in January. I'm mad, I really wanted to see it, but alas, I missed it.

If you haven't seen Rent, I would go with that. I love that show and I can just keep seeing it over and over again.

The next show I really want to see is Wicked. I've heard such great things about that show. I'm waiting for a discount/Broadway Buck to come out.

Rent is great and also if the Scarlett Pimpernal is still playing see that. That was awesome seen it 3 times.

Mamma Mia! is excellent saw it last Valentines day when DH took me to NY for my birthday (Feb 13th!). Will go and see it again when we are next in NY.
Claire ;)

Go see Wicked!!! We loved it so much we would have bought tickets to see it again that night if the box office had been open. As for discounts....www.HitShowClub.com has some running now for midweek show this winter. It is not much of a discount....%25 percent, but it is something.

Others that I love are Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and 42nd St. You can get half price tickets for all but Lion King through the above mentioned website.

Also, if you want discount tickets for even more shows you can stand on line at tkts on 47th st. Tickets there are usually 50% off. The only problem with this method of discount tickets is the fact that you are waiting on a line for awhile when you could be enjoying the City.

If you need/want any other suggestions, let me know...I live right here in Manhattan!

Well, ultimately it's going to your decision, and a tough one at that because of all the great, but different advice you're getting here. I've seen RENT, which I highly recommend, although it is a little racy. Then there's Aida and I thought it was AWESOME, especially if you're a Disney fan. Not sure about this, but Vanessa Williams may still be doing the part of Aida. These two shows you can usually get 1/2 price at the tkts booth. Of course I also recommend the lion king and mamma mia, but you're probably going to be paying a bit more for those.

We've seen Lion King and Mamma Mia- as well as The Producers, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom, Cats, Enchanted April, and Scarlet Pimpernel (we'd see this one again- but it's closed). We did Mamma Mia twice too- we wanted to see it one more time before Louise Petrie left the show.

I wanted to see Urinetown on our last trip but couldn't get DH to agree. Now of course, it's closed.

Our trip will be in July for our anniversary- so HitShowClub, TheaterMania and Playbill might not work out for this trip. They've only got discounts listed until April.

Keep the suggestions coming though...... I have a lot of decisions to make!!!

Thanks everyone!

Here are my favorites in order, from fav to least fav....

Aidia, Movin' Out and Chicago. Chicago being my least favortie...it was just OK.....Now Aidia and Movin' Out were neck and neck....Billy Joel sat directly behind me for this one while in Chicago as a pre-Broadway engagement. I have only seen it here in Chicago and heard they have changed it a bit from when I saw it and lots of Chicagoeans have said it is not as good now on Broadway...so that is why it is my second choice. Enjoy the the show, whatever it may be and have a wonderful time in New York.

:)

So, I have one show slot left..........

I've booked Hairspray, Aida, and Chicago.

Any suggestions for my last slot??? It will be a Sat. matinee.

Thanks again, everyone!!!

I'm jumping in on *Flower*'s post! :p

My grade team is taking our 8th grade class to see Wicked for their graduation trip. Any feedback or suggestions? Anything I need to be prepared for as far as sexuality or language?

Thanks, after hearing the comments here, I can't wait to go!

My vote is for Aida!!! A wonderful play with beautiful music!!! This was my DH's first Broadway play and he's now hooked. We go to Lion King 2/22. I've created a monster!!!!
