I really need to lose some weight and I was wondering what you all think of Nutrisystem. It's quite pricey and I'd still have to purchase vegetables and dairy. Is it worth the money?

From what I hear - no. My ex-BIL went on it and ended up giving a lot of the food to my niece. She hated it and said it tasted awful. My neighbor ordered it and returned it for the same reason. I think your best bet is just counting calories. I'm in the same boat and that's the route I'm taking.

I'm trying to lose weight by portion control, and limiting my intake of sugar. I lost 20 plus pounds between April and August. My loss has been slower since, but I'm not gaining.

I tried it and hated it! All of the food tasted horrible; extremely salty and a "tin-y" taste.

My husband and I tried it, and hated it. All of the lunch items have fish oil in them, and the taste sticks with you all day. We really didn't like the food very much at all. I would look into Jenny Craig as an alternative.

Nutrisystem is nothing more than portion control. If you eat less and work out, you lose weight.

The food is really bad,and if you are picky or there is something you do not like, they have an option of taking their "standard" menu or you can painstakingly choose x amount of breakfasts, lunches etc etc. I did that, and continued to get their standard icky stuff anyway. They claim out of stock and if you try to send it back to get it corrected, they do it again, sending you more of the stuff you just sent back with the out of stock excuse.

Stay away! Icky food and awful service for a lot of money.

yuck! You can portion control with Weight Watchers and be much happier and probably more successful.

I looked in nutrisystems for my husband and after reviewing it decided against it.

Anybody have an alternative they are happy with? I am about to just start him on the south beach diet since that seems doable and interesting and I get to do all the preparing. He said no to weaght watchers but I thought the mens program was a good one?

My dad and uncle both do the men's Weight Watchers program and have both lost a lot of weight with it. :thumbsup2 He could just do their online program if he didn't want to go to the meetings. My dad does that because he claims the women get too emotional for him at the meetings.

That's very funny! We are an emotional bunch or should I say some of us are. I will have a look at the online program. I wonder if he will be as strict with himself if nobody is monitoring him. Thanks for mentioning the online program! :)

My local WW has a "Men's" meeting on Wed nights with a male leader. I went to it by mistake for my first meeting and it was so much fun, I ended up sticking with that one. It was a good crowd and 90% men. Those guys were a riot! Call and see if your local one has a men's meeting, he might like it better.

The Nutrisystem food tastes so bad that I'm sure I would gain weight on the program. I would eat the food, but feel so deprived that I would have to eat something that actually tasted good to make up for how deprived I was feeling.

One of my co-workers brought a shopping bag full of the food in for our desperation lunch cabinet. It ended up being thrown away b/c no one ate it twice. The one I tried had the most terrible aftertaste.

I always suggest sparkpeople.com. I started using them earlier this year. It is free. It has a nutrition tracker, and you can customize it to your goals. It told me how many calories I needed to eat each day and how many calories I needed to burn each week to lose the weight. They have a community, several actually that are separated by age, groups, interests, location, whatever. I was losing weight with them. I had lost about 10 pounds and then found out I was pregnant so I had to stop. Oh and they have a recipe section complete with reviews. These are user submitted recipes. Good luck!
