Now thinking of taking 301 from NJ a few ?

I think we might be a little excited for the trip because we are going to take the kids out 1/2 day on Thursday to leave from Central NJ. and now thinking 301 because of the time of day leaving ( 1pm) we know there is no way we would go thru DC( we tried this once.. bad move) but would taking 301 at this time be ok or is this not such a great idea either?

And were should we get back on 95 south via 301. TIA

301 through southern Maryland can be rough if you get there around rush hour. There are a lot of stop lights along the way. Other than that, its a lovely drive. You can get back on 95 at Bowling Green or go further south and get on closer to Richmond.

I find 95 anywhere between DC and Richmond to be awful most days, Saturday included.

We live in MD and this summer we drove to Williamsburg, Va. My family took 301 down instead of 95, my in laws took 95. No lie, we arrived at our destination within 5 minutes of each other and the same thing happened on the way back. We both hit traffic, just different kinds of traffic - we had stop and go traffic light traffic, they had stopped expressway traffic. I'm now convinced there is no "good" way to avoid Route 95 traffic except for flying over it.

We take 301 south to 207 (near Bowling Green, VA) to I95 (north of Richmond, VA). We prefer this route to I95 through MD and VA.

Are you talking about taking 301/50 down the Eastern Shore or the southern Maryland 301?
