is gone.. 4 days since she past away , my other dog Dogfish is having such a hard time . i am home on disabilty leave but she still lays by Karas bed and runs to her house looking for her every time we let her out . her eating has been very poor , made her chicken today . she ate , any other ideas , we really cant get another dog rite now . should we take Karas bed away now?
of course she is getting extra love , but i feel so sad for her.

I had 2 dogs from 7 weeks till 13 years. I had to put Sadie down a bit after her 13th birthday. Max, her brother looked for her, but we got rid of her bed right away. He was always lonely after that and we could no longer leave him in thehouse unless he was in his crate if we weren't home. He would bark till he was hoarse and scratch on the doors. I had to put him down at 13 and 1/2. I know they are both together now and happy. The only thing I can tell you is to give her time. I hope she gets over it soon, and I know how hard it is for your whole family.

Only time and patience will help your dog. Last summer, I had to find a new home for our super big german shepherd (she lives at my ex's house now) and one of our other dogs (her playmate) had a very hard time, too. It took about a week, maybe two, for him to get back to "normal". We made sure to give him lots of love and attention and even my toy poodle (the princess) was kind to him.

Dogs need time to grieve too. Just reassure her and give her love. Hugs to all of you.

Awww Huckster, I'm so sorry to hear about Kara. Just as with people, dogs grieve in different ways and for different lengths of time. They also tend to pick up our feelings and moods. The more you can be upbeat (yea I know that's a tough one) and try to keep things as close to normal, the quicker she should get back to her old self. Hopefully. Poor Girl...they just don't quite understand where their buddy has gone and maybe they wonder if they have to go away too. Any possibility you could use this time to try to teach her a new trick/behavior? That would give her a "job" to do and a valid reason to be lavished with praise and attention.

Hugs to you all as you adjust,

:grouphug: I hope you and your furbaby are feeling better soon, I know this is a hard time.
