since it was raining and there were no rugby league games on the weekend (and last weekend was too rainy to get any good shots), i was going through a bit of withdrawal. so, in going through some of the photos i've taken over the last few weeks, i've picked out a few that made me stop and go 'hmmmm'

1. the tackling instinct is so strong, it's often stronger than the 'he's on your team' one...

2. 'ha ha, he has the ball and you don't!'

3. 'i'm a lover, not a fighter...'

4. 'dummy left, juke right, jump...up?'

5. '...and mum said watching too much star trek would never help me in life'

yes as has been pointed out, i use a Canon 1dmk2, but to be honest, the body is irrelevant. i can use my 10D (my secondary body) and the same lens at the same position on the field and get the same shots. although the camera can burst at 8.5 shots a second, i use the camera in single shot mode for team sporting events (have to press shutter for every shot). i do use burst for skateboard comps.

these shots were taken using the Sigma 50-500 (aka 'Bigma') lens. i used to have a Canon 100-400L but i hated the push-pull zoom.

for rugby and soccer, i shoot .jpg instead of RAW. to answer another question that was asked directly, i did not use any photoshop on the shots. they are offloaded from the cards directly into Apple Aperture, where they are cropped if necessary and ready for print at the game.

Ahhhh! My kind of guy! Same here: JPEG only, download, crop if necessary, and that's it. The only difference is because you're good, for me it's because I'm too lazy. :rotfl:

heh it's both lazyness and quickness to print for me. on a busy day i'll take over a thousand shots. for everything other than rugby, soccer and paintball, i shoot RAW :)

Here is a shot I took on my way back from town yesterday. I believe that they are fledglings because a bit later on they were out on a branch looking unsure about their ability to fly off of it. But I have no idea what kind of birds they are. If anyone knows birds and can identify them for me I would really appreciate it. It would be nice to know what I took a picture of. :)

here are some of my pics

It took us three attempts this past week to get in to see the new whale show at Sea World.... and then some lady was standing in a spot where her head was in my line of site so I had to try and shoot around her.... too late when she arrived to move and find a new seat!

Bird at Pacific Point - the seals and sea lions were not all the active last evening - I guess their bellies were all full of fish. A couple had pups - but they were not in good positions for photographing.

Senecabeach,

Thanks for you kind words about the shot and for identifying my subject. We are right by a raptor santuary area with everything from Falcons, to Hawks to Eagles including several nesting bald eagles. So for the bird-challenged like me all I see is pretty, big birds hunting in the fields. :)

We had a huge thunder/lightening storm the other day. After it was finished and started to move on it was about dusk. I was on the computer in the basement (no windows). After I finished what I was doing (posting here as a matter of fact) I went up to go to bed, but the sunset cought my eye. Our yard is surrounded by tall trees, so I grabed my camera and told DW I was going to take a quick ride to the school down the street to get a few pics of the sunset. I finally cought one on the camera (I've missed quite a few sunsets because its near the kids [and my own] bed times and also missed a few great sunrises because I just didn't have my camera with me). I think this one was worth it. It was pretty spectacular:

That is spectacular - it looks like a HUGE inferno!

I have to leave my neighborhood for really good sunsets too - the few I have taken I have zoomed between the houses to get!

Here is one of my 4 year old nephew and my BIL today at my Mom's.
