Now I know why I hate Super Walmarts

SuperWalmarts check out lanes are so slowwwww. And no conveyor belt, just a little side thing, you have to keep pushing your groceries to the checker.

When we went to the one near WDW, it took over 25 minutes to check out. Check, bag, check, bag, check, bag.

I felt like dejavu, then I remembered Florida.

I like the prices, but is it worth your food defrosting.

::yes:: I won't go near our Wal-Marts in Orlando. I prefer Target!!

Yours doesn't have the conveyor belt? Ours do. The only thing I hate about Wal-Mart is they have 80 checkout lanes and only 4 are ever open

When we were living in Indiana last year, it was my first experience with a department/discount store selling groceries. It never sat well with me- I could never think of a time when I would need both stores in one.

Anyway, I also found the lines to be ridiculously slow. And they don't have baggers (at least ours didn't). I don't mind bagging my own, but when you ahve a huge order, it's nice to have some help. I'm glad to be settled in Chicago, with normal grocery stores. nad self check-out lines! I LOVE those!

Exactly, I counted 4 open on a Friday at 5:00 p.m. The store was packed and people were standing 6 deep in each lane. I thought for sure they would open more. (Oh, the clerk I had changed right when I got there and I did have a faster one.) - they just exchanged registeres.

The only check-out lines at our that do not have conveyor belts are the express lines(20 items or less). We have about 6 of those or maybe 8 but all the rest have conveyors.

The Super Wal-Mart that we had gone to had a conveyor belt and I liked going there. The prices are really good and I am used to, too going to just a regular Wal-Mart that doesn't have the groceries-bakery, and deli.

Good Lord, I could go on and on about Super Walmarts. I made sure I wasn't in an express check out lane. There were 2 open by the door and another one open on the other end where the grocery store stops.

Did you ever notice Super Walmarts are not in big Metro areas. The closet one to Milwaukee is 30 miles out in the last suburb. Walmart keeps fighting with Milwaukee to build some where and Milwaukee keeps turning them down.

even the self check outs at ours have conveyor belts. the onlys ones that don't have them are the 20 items or less express lanes. Even the 10 item or less cigarette lane has one.

I can't wait for a super walmart to be built near me. Last year the county supervisors "banned" them but in our last primary election we voted to over ride their ban on a ballot initiative. YAY! for us. Can't wait!

I hate to be nosey, but where in Indiana did you live that didn't have regular grocery stores. I am all over the state and I have found that most if not every town has a regular grocery store in it. In fact, you find many more regular grocery stores than you do super wal-marts and meijers.

All the Super Walmarts around here have conveyor belts that work.

The thing I hate about Super Walmarts is the photo people know me by my name now. I don't have to give them my name, they start looking for my pics as soon as I walk up to the counter.;)

I try to avoid going to Wal-Mart as much as possible, but they're like the 500 lb. gorilla. You just can't avoid them. They always draw me in with some sort of deal. I don't change my oil there because I was treated badly once and I don't develop my film there either because they lost a roll and did nothing about it. But you can't beat the prices. Personally, I'd rather shop at Target or Publix myself.

I know my district mgr has a fetish for having all the registers open during busy times- I know that cause as the toy associate I seem to *always* be on register as a back up cashier... and the fact I *hate* cashiering is a whole nother story..... I did notice that the marts in orlando had more registers but less open...

I hate to admit this, especially since I've seen UncleKyle post negative things about our super wal-mart but I kinda like ours. It's convient and cheaper than other stores on most things I buy. I tend to go during their less busy hours so I don't have to fight the crowds so much.

(I'm sorry UncleKyle, I know you hate ours but it saves me money!)

I never shop at Walmart unless it's midnight and Super Target is closed.

I get sooooo annoyed everytime I go there.

One thing that puzzles me about WalMart is this ....

Since when is an express lane 20 items or less??? At other places it's 10-12, maybe 15 at most.

Most of the time I shop at WalMart it's for a handful of items, and I just want to get in and get out. Thankfully the ones around here have started putting in the self check-outs, but usually only 4 in each store. Maybe they'll replace more of these unused registers with self check-outs.

Of course, I have to wonder who they got theirs from. We used the self check-out at WalMart the other week and two things annoyed us about it. First, it didn't register when I put something in the bag -- two somethings, in fact. At other places those scales are ultra-sensitive. If you don't put the item in the bag fast enough they will ask you to do so (even though I may be putting it in the bag but haven't set it down so it will register). At WalMart, the item was in the bag, but the scale didn't register it. Second, the little voice from the machine almost made it sound like I was trying to steal something, telling me to "put the correct item in the bag".

Our Super Walmart is great. Clean, well-stocked, friendly. I do a great deal of my shopping there. I did not care for the Super Walmart that was near our second home in Florida, but I do like the one near our current second home. Each store seems to be run so differently.

Ours also has 1 10 item or less lane. It is rarely used because rarely anyone ever has that few items. Around here you can usually walk right up to the 20 or less lanes, at most your are the 2 or 3rd person in line.

Theirs are more sensitive, and it that lays the problem. They are set to detect a certain weight for a item. If it is off a little you get "place the correct item in the bag".
