November Check In 2010

One more week for me! We are going to a wedding on Saturday, hanging out at my BIL's for Halloween and then hitting the parks first thing Monday morning. Unfortunately I have been having migraine issues the past few days. I hope they go away before my trip. I don't want to spend my birthday celebration stuck in my hotel room loaded up on narcotics. I guess I should find out where the nearest Kaiser is though...just in case.

In exactly 1 week from today we will be on I-5 heading south to Disneyland! :cool1:

This time at DL will be so awesome!
Here is my PS schedule, we usually do PS lunches and then figure out dinner based on how we are feeling/crave that day...

Monday 11/1 1p.m. Carnation Cafe
Tuesday 11/2 2p.m. Big Thunder BBQ
Wednesday 11/3 12:50 p.m. Cafe Orleans
Thursday 11/4 1p.m. Ariels Grotto
Friday 11/5 9:40a.m. Carnation Cafe (tradition to have breakfast here at least once!)

AND I just found out that while my best friend and her bf are there with us (they are meeting us there on wednesday) he is asking her to marry him in front of the castle!!!! I will take tons of pictures! I cant wait to see all of this unfold! Her birthday is the 4th, which is why we are doing Ariels Grotto, that and its my DD's favorite princess!
Have to go start some packing, after all, I only have a few days left and still a full week of working....

yay!

Those look like fabulous dining plans!! Im so excited for you and I can't wait to see your TR when you get back

3 more weeks! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Some things I still need to figure out.

Does WOC require additional tickets to see? We are going on a Tuesday and a Thursday, so it doesn't look like Fantasmic is playing. WOC is scheduled at 8:15, but I thought the park closed at 8? How does that work?

The other thing I have to figure out is our transportation from the airport to the motel, and back again. I was looking at the resort express - $100 round trip. I'm just worried about whether they'll get us to the airport in time to catch our morning flight. Our flight is at 8:25 - how much time do I have to allow for baggage check and all that hooplah? If we have to allow a couple of hours, plus atleast a half hour to the airport from our hotel, we'd have to be picked up around 5:45am. I'd consider a taxi, but will they fit 5 of us, plus our luggage?

Also, I was thinking about getting a pre-paid card of some sort to carry around with us instead of cash or travelers checks? Or do you just take your regular credit card with you?

Thank you for any tips you can give!

You will need a FastPass to view WOC. There are a few different options of obtaining the FP: either a Picnic Dinner with comes with a FP (about $15/pp), dinner at either Ariel's Grotto or Wine Country Trattoria (about $35/pp), or get to DCA early and stand in line for a FP. Here is the World of Color Superthread for more information about how the lines are formed and everything. [thread=2542717]World of Color Superthread[/thread]

I have heard the resort express takes a while to get around and such. I would recommend using the Super Shuttle. It may be a little bit cheaper in your case, it also depends on what airport you are flying to. There are coupon codes out there if you use them. The Super Shuttle will probably be more a of direct ride with maybe one or two stops dependign if you have other people in the shuttle with you. If you use a taxi I'm sure you could get a van taxi which has more room than a car. Check out this thread for more information that may be helpful. [thread=2318297]Airport Proximity to DLR and Ground Transportation Information Super Thread[/thread]

In terms of how much time you should allow, it really depends on what airport you are flying out of, what day you flying, and what airline. I think that the time you have is good, I wouldn't leave later than 6:30 but that's because I don't like waiting around at the airport for too long.

Also, I was thinking about getting a pre-paid card of some sort to carry around with us instead of cash or travelers checks? Or do you just take your regular credit card with you?

I would recommend getting a Disney Gift Card if you want if you don't feel comfortable carry around your credit card. You can buy them online from the Disney Store or the Disneyland website.

Thank you for any tips you can give!

Hope that helps.

The gift card is a good idea for Disneyland, but we'll also be going to Sea World, and probably be eating outside the park once in a while. We might just open up a credit card with a small limit and take that.

The SuperShuttle was an option we looked at, but it's double the cost of the other one. I think the taxi would be less expensive. I might try to make some calls later this week.

Thank you for the info on WOC. From what I understand you need to get their early and it's a lot of standing. I'm not sure that's going to work for our crew at the end of an exhausting day, after an exhausting week. I think we may just skip it.

Now I just have to figure out the airports, and maybe we'll be somewhat close to ready to go! UGH!

eta - I found a Visa gift card online that I can order prepaid that will work anywhere they take visa. So that's the options I think I'll use. Will we need much cash for anything?

18 days left and I'll be in the parks!!! I'm so excited!
I'm excited with you! We'll get to California 2 days ahead of you but won't actually be in the park until one day before you are. Party poopers think they will be too tired the first day. I would be there as soon as I got off the plane if they would just cooperate with me!

Just thought I should pass this along.

I'm sure most of you know by know about the talking/blinking Mickey at DCA in a show called Disney's Dance Crew, inspired by So You Think You Can Dance and Danceing With the Stars. From what I can tell, it's in the stage area near Monster Inc and Muppets (where Drawn to the Magic used to be).

Also at DCA is starting the 26th of November is the new Disney Channel Rocks show that is taking the place of the High School Musical show. It follows the same path. HSM's last show is the 25th.
Thanks for the heads up. I love to watch the park entertainment! Wasn't too impressed with Drawn to the Magic so maybe this will be a nice replacement. However, I may just skip the second offering you mentioned. Never been a HSM fan so doubt I would much care for another following along the same line. Thank heavens my DD has not been sucked into that mania. Still, thanks for the info cause someone else might enjoy it. :thumbsup2

We are staying at Disneyland Hotel!
WOO HOO! We are having dinner at Ariels and doing thanksgiving at the grand ballroom in the DLH. We are doing minnies, mickeys and goofys for breakfast. So all of the character meals except story tellers which we hate. Got the plane tickets yesterday. Disney here we come!
:yay: Yay for you getting all your plans made! I updated the list to include your hotel choice now. Sounds like lots of fun in your future!

Looks like I will be there part of the time you are also there. I'm also staying at the DLH and doing the Thanksgiving dinner in the Grand Ballroom at the DLH.
Great minds think alike, right? :cheer2:

Well then maybe we will see eachother. I'm going with my mom, younger sister and my grandma. All girls trip :]
I bet all the girls will have a blast!

It snowed here last night, not much but it is still snow.

Next week at this time I will be getting on the plane to go to California to get on my cruise to mexico for a week then Disneyland after.
Well then it sounds like a nice vacation will be a nice break from all that snow! :lmao:

Hi, I'm going to be there with my family from the 28th of nov to the 5th of december. I'm mainly on here to find a park buddy, so if anybody is interested you can message me on here, facebook, or even skype.
Hope you have a good time with your family! And, I hope you are able to locate someone to hang out with in the park.
thumbsup-2.gif

We'll be there Nov. 28-Dec. 2. Staying at HoJo's.

Ten years ago after my divorce, my son and I started going the week after Thanksgiving for an "our time" trip. When he hit middle school that stopped. He has not been in two years. I did go last year with good friends, but without my son, and decided not to do that again. We've had a bit of a tough year, and so I decided to pull him out of school for the week. Missed assignments will be gotten beforehand, and if not done at D will be done the weekend we get home. Right now, a dose of the magic and my son's well-being matter more than perfect attendance and possible disapproving teachers. Which is slightly ironic as I teach third grade! We are so excited, we can't stand it! We'll be going with good family friends who also believe in the magic and lots of laughs. We have PS at Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe - no Character meals this trip.

Would love to meet some fellow posters. And here's wishing everyone going lots of pixie dust for a great trip.
Sad that you missed getting to make the trip for the last 2 years with your son and that it has been a rough year so far BUT it sounds like things should be looking up soon!

Kudos for your willingness to not focus solely on the academic pressures and get right to his emotional well being. Sometimes that is even more important! I am a firm believer in the therapeutic value of a good Disneyland vacation! Here's hoping that you both come away feeling magically refreshed and renewed and ready to take on the world when you head back home! Sending some of that pixie dust right back at ya! pixiedust:
We will just miss you as our last day in the park will be the 26th but I know there will be some other Disers still in the park for November. As a matter of fact, how old is your son? Just before your post Trevor57 mentioned that he was looking for a park buddy. Maybe they just might hit it off.

One month to go!!!!
Soooo excited. Soon we'll be on the road.

Once you get down to that last month it really starts going even faster!

A week! How wonderful! We also tend to do the PS for lunch only and decide on the evening meal according to what sounds good.... and where we are. Honestly all sense of eating at a normal time goes right out the window while on vacation because we usually end up eating supper AFTER we get done in the park and have gone back to our room. Most often it ends up being pizza delivery at 9:00 pm. This year will mark the first time I have ever made a reservation for in the evening. It's a good one too! Blue Bayou on our last day.
How very exciting! A marriage proposal!!!!
engagement2.gif
If I were you I bet I would be almost excited as she will be! How fun to be part of a very, very special day!

4 weeks from today will be our first day in the parks...for 2010 at least.
Us too... but it still almost just as exciting even after all these years. Some parts are even better because we know the park so well that we know what we like to eat, we know our favorite rides, we know our favorite resting spots and we even know where to find the bathroom! :rotfl2:

That is very exciting! That will be a great moment to watch. Are your best friend and her BF both huge Disney fans?
They should be after this!

for you that the headaches have come and gone by your trip.

Those look like fabulous dining plans!! Im so excited for you and I can't wait to see your TR when you get back.
Yep, looks good! I'll be ready for some new reading material myself!

SHE is but he hasnt been since he was 10 (he is 30-something now) hoping to change that!
Yes, indeed! It is time to get them back into the Disneyland fold!

I think we all get that little overwhelming/panic feeling when the trip actually gets close. I know I do! Just remember to take a deep breath.....
I think the WOC show tends to throw us all into confusion trying to imagine what it will be like before we ever get there. There are some specific threads going over all the details floating around here. In brief, what I have gathered... you do have to have a ticket. They are given out 3 ways. Booking a dinner package, buying a picnic meal or picking up fastpasses while they are available when the park opens. Personally, I wanted to be sure I had a good spot with the least amount of worry so I bit the bullet and bought the dinner package at WOC. The picnic is less expensive which would have been my second choice. The fastpasses are free but you have to wait in a long line and be there early so I knew I did not want to go that route. As I mentioned, if you have the time for a long ready and really want to know everything I suggest reading up on one of the specific WOC threads.
Not sure where you are staying or which airport you are using but will try to offer my little bit of knowledge based on our experience. We are by no means seasoned travelers so we do always try to get to the airport early. Flying out of John Wayne Airport we do usually plan to be picked up at least 2-1/2 to 3 hours early to allow travel time to the airport and to make sure we are plenty ahead of our scheduled departure time. Probably a bit excessive but we have never had all that much time to waste and part of hanging out at the airport is also just a somewhat fun part of the trip since we never do it any other time. I am sure some of the frequent travelers around here can give you a better estimate of how much time you should allow. Anyway, we have never used the shuttles. We have either had a car or used a taxi. It is very easy to call one of the cab companies and just let them know how may people you have in your party... and a lot of luggage... and they will send a vehicle suited to the size of your group, most likely a van. We have really enjoyed using a town car service but at the moment I do not recall the name of the company. I will try to look around and see if I can find his card and get back here to post it. The driver was VERY prompt, courteous and very friendly. Being from Texas that went a long way in our approval book! Best I recall the towncar was just a little more than the cab but a much better ride. The taxis have been okay but the last one needed a new set of shocks. It was quite a UNIQUE ride. :lmao:
As for money. We always have a mix of cash and cards. This year I have an abundance of gift cards so we should not have to carry so much cash. We'll see how that goes!

Hope that helps.
We must have been writing at the same time! You offer some very good advice.... and much shorter than mine! :rolleyes1

The gift card is a good idea for Disneyland, but we'll also be going to Sea World, and probably be eating outside the park once in a while. We might just open up a credit card with a small limit and take that.

eta - I found a Visa gift card online that I can order prepaid that will work anywhere they take visa. So that's the options I think I'll use. Will we need much cash for anything?
You should be able to get some transportation quotes online. Again, I can't think of the companies but a google search should turn up something.
googlesmiley.gif

All that standing, waiting for a fastpass did not sound very appealing to me either. I am going to be lucky if I don't hear some complaining while we are standing around waiting for the show to start. I do wish they would have made the area big enough to actually sit down!
The Visa card does sound like a good option! You might need a little extra cash for tips and small purchases.

Today has been a restful day at home with the family. We did our Disneyland reading this morning, watched Song of the South and played the Splash version of Sorry again after lunch. Boy, am I in the mood for a ride on Splash Mountain now! This afternoon I got out pen and paper to make a to-do-list for before we go. I must say I am really excited now because my list was very short in days which looks really, really short on paper! Dentist appointments, hair cuts, hair color, last shopping trip, stock up on dog and cat food, drop off the Operation Christmas shoeboxes, prescription pickups, place the Von's grocery order, print our itinerary, put the mail on hold.... lots to squeeze in in just a little over 2 weeks. I suppose everyone has a similar list going as their trip gets closer too. Just 6 days and the first one on our list will be whisking away to Disneyland!

This time next week, I expect to be strolling around Downtown Disney, helping my sister (first-timer) get acquainted with the resort! :yay:

My DW, 4.5yo DS, 2.5yo DD and I, already we are in the list that we will go in the week from November 13 until 20th, my question is: How is the weather in these dates?.

Sounds like a busy weekend! I feel for you on the migraines. I get them myself. So far I have only had them one year while at DL. How many days do yours usually last? I will be crossing my fingers

for you that the headaches have come and gone by your trip.

Thanks. This one started yesterday. I have been through Tylenol, Vicodin, and am now on Dilaudid + Zofran. If I still feel bad tomorrow, I'll have to go in for a dilaudid injection. Yuck. The shots usually work, but then I have a total drug hangover for the next 2-3 days.

This time next week, I expect to be strolling around Downtown Disney, helping my sister (first-timer) get acquainted with the resort! :yay:

We'll be there at the same time, I had a LGMH last march but cant find it this year and havent had the time to go to home depot ( the closest one is over 40 miles away ) to get another....If you have one I will be looking for it and I will say hi!
Weather sounds like its gonna be nice while were there!
yay :cool1:

This is why I am so happy that we leave in 5 days.

This is what our place looks like today and it is still snowing.

Ohhhh what a beautiful morning .... ohhh what a beautiful day.... our trips are getting much closer..... we'll all be heading Disneyland's way!!!!

Alrighty, now that I got that out of my system.....

Apologies to Trevor57 and Jenlan for not getting your travel dates added to the list yesterday. I got rushed off the computer and did not get to finish up posting but I am back today and hoping to get us all updated properly.
If I've missed anyone else or need to update any information please don't hesitate to let me know.

Here's the new updated update! 103!!!!

This time next week, I expect to be strolling around Downtown Disney, helping my sister (first-timer) get acquainted with the resort! :yay:
Oh boy! :cheer2: You are one of the first ones heading out on the top of our list! That means the rest of us won't be far behind you! It's always so much fun to show the park off to someone new! So are you getting packed yet?

My DW, 4.5yo DS, 2.5yo DD and I, already we are in the list that we will go in the week from November 13 until 20th, my question is: How is the weather in these dates?.
The weather does look good for that week! :woohoo: Then again, I don't think I have ever gone to DL when the weather was really bad. Some years a little cooler or hotter but for the most part it is usually perfect during fall. Nice temps during the day and a light jacket in the mornings and evenings.

I hope you are feeling much better this morning and do not have to go for the injection. I haven't had to do that yet. Doesn't sound like much fun but then nothing about having a migraine is. :sad2: My doctor tried putting me on Topamax but it actually made me sicker than the headaches themselves. Thankfully, most of the time mine will respond to Excedrin Tylenol. So for now I manage pretty well and usually only get them about once a month. Anyway, I do hope you are fine this morning and have a wonderful headache free trip!

Great link! I think I will post it on our first page. :thumbsup2

We'll be there at the same time, I had a LGMH last march but cant find it this year and havent had the time to go to home depot ( the closest one is over 40 miles away ) to get another....If you have one I will be looking for it and I will say hi!
Weather sounds like its gonna be nice while were there!
yay :cool1:
Hopefully you will find your LGMH in time for your trip. They do have a tendency to hide between trips! :lmao: I've not looked for mine yet but am hoping that it is in the stash that we take with us every year. Guess I will find out in another week or so. The weather actually looks great for the entire month of November! :yay:

This is why I am so happy that we leave in 5 days.

This is what our place looks like today and it is still snowing.

Absolutely beautiful Tracy! BUT I don't blame you for wanting to get out of town! I don't like the cold. I would make a very poor Canadian.

Thanks for the Disneyland weather link.. :lovestruc
Praying for nice 70 degree days for Thanksgiving week! Also, no snow over the Sierra's we must cross on the drive down!

I do hope Thanksgiving Day has beautiful weather... especially since we will be there too! Can't wait to see if this might be the start of a new tradition! Sure sounds good to me!

So, tonight's movie was Finding Nemo. Now my DH is in the other room with the Beach Boys belting out familiar tunes and dreaming of walking in the entrance of CA. Yes indeed! I do believe we have the Disney mood in the air!!!

Hey! Trevor 57 is my teenager. I didn't realize he posted here or I would of added him. I told him to get acquainted with the Dis boards and try to meet other teens. He really is a good kid, his older sister is not going (she doesn't care for DL and is not very social with you, unless you have 4 legs) so he doesn't have anyone in his age bracket to run around with. We let him do it alone last year and he was very punctual and respectful of the freedom we gave him. I know some of you might not agree with that freedom, but I trust him, and the fact that he is 6'2 and a mixed martial artist, does give me some comfort.
Anyway, if anyone does have a teenager male or female that could use a buddy when on vacation, please feel free to contact us.
I will probably post again on another thread at a later date, but we will be at GC 11/28-12/05.
Thanks,
Kim
