What is up with the mouse-savers site? They used to list all the 'general public' codes with a breakdown of current coupons, but they don't do that anymore?

I need some codes (ID's) for November, but they took off all the Wal-Mart/Costco/Etc ID's. Does anyone have ID's/codes for November??

On another note, for a so-called recession, I don't understand why car rentals have gone UP so much?? I used to get a 10-day rental for like $160 by used of codes/ID's.

We are no longer in a recession by definition and things are improving, especially in business travel which is far more lucrative then leisure. Although the general economy is not improving at the same pace across the board, in general things are improving at varying paces.

Additionally, the major rental companies reduced their inventories drastically during the recession and learned, just like airlines that volume should match demand more realistically. This is resulting in less volume available as the market continues to recover, it also means companies have found that they no longer have to offer loss producing fares/rates to attract customers. This doesn't mean they will not still need to offer discounts occasionally, but the days of the past dirt cheap rates/fares are gone for now (history tends to repeat itself).

Just keep your eyes open and the codes will start pouring in 4-6 weeks before your trip.

Most codes I've seen are only good through Aug 31. If you hhave a Visa card they are showing one on their website that is good through Oct 31. So hoping that this will be extended in the next month or so. Other than that, it looks like it it just going to be a waiting game.
I have a midsize booked with Alamo for 11/26-12/1 for $271 using the Alamo Insider ID and the free upgrade coupon from Alamo's website. Hoping that price drops. Haven't looked at any of the other comapnies yet.

I just signed up for the Insiders thing--what coupon and ID numbers did you use? I didn't see much that extended to early-November (our trip)?

boxer, I found the free one class upgrade under Alamo's "Hot Deals". Just click on it and it will bring uup the coupon. Then click on reserve and it will take you back to the reservation page and the coupon code will be there. Sorry, I don't have it written down anywhere. Then sign in to Alamo Insiders and your name and ID# will appear on the reservation also. Once you move through that screen the ID code will appear.
If this doesn't help, let me know and I'll look up my confirmation to get you the codes.

Thank you! I'll check that out and HOPE for a better price.

Looked up my info: Free Upgrade discount code AU2729MJW (good thru 12/31/11, physical coupon is not required) Alamo Insider ID 7015135

Costco Travel had a new brochure out yesterday at my local store, "The rental cars you want." Terms state Costco membership must be presented. No mention of the coupon. We had one horrendous experience at the Hertz location at Burbank airport 7 years ago which has forced us to always travel with coupons, memberships, identifications AND a marriage certificate.

The desk agent was forcing us to buy the CDW, we refused and he did not want to add my better half for free as an additional driver because we had no proof of marriage. Nevermind we were both Hertz #1 Club Gold members, had the same address on all id's, same last names, and matching wedding bands. A call to Amex and the Hertz #1CG confirmed the guy was wrong, and back then the spouse did not need to be added to the contract. Sadly that was two hours of our lives we will not get back.

Hope one of these Coupon Codes works for your dates in November.
We are getting a full size for a week. Base rate $236.87/Week. With the coupon: $203.03. I'll keep checking back to see if there are better rates with Alamo. The DIS reservation tool showed Dollar had the lower rates but we're sticking with Alamo because of the convenient location at the Car Care Center, and the free spouse additional driver with our Costco membership.

Car mfg are no longer giving the rental agencies great deals on short term leases or guaranteed buy back prices.

Rental agencies have found the resale value of their cars is directly releated to the total miles on the car.

It is better to leave the car on the lot then rent it for some of the prices they used to charge. I've read $200 /week is probably the number rental agencies need to cover all their costs. We can usually beat that rate but 10 day rates for $160 may be history.
