November 8, 2008 7 Night Eastern 11/8/2008 11-8-2008 FIRST POST UPDATED ON 10/16/08

Knock, knock...
Who's there...
:cheer2: CRUISE DOCS!!! :cheer2:

I have also submitted my dissertation yesterday. :scared: Two more weeks and it will all be over and I can start packing for the cruise!

I am thinking about you and have good thoughts. Can't wait to see you.

There was a soggy white package waiting for me on the doorstep when I got home from work...luckily the luggage tags inside didn't get wet! Now it seems really, really REAL! This is the third time we've stayed in this stateroom, so it feels kinda like home!

Now I'm realizing how we are not at all ready for this trip...we've been out to Colorado a couple of times visiting our land and talking to log home builders (and are off there again this weekend) and DH's tux and my formal stuff is STILL sitting in a ball on the laundry room floor waiting to go to the dry cleaner! It has been there since we came back from a Wonder cruise in June. Embarrassing.

Better get that to the dry cleaners and fast. Time is flying by quickly.

The air show at Canaveral will likely draw a big crowd. For this reason, we're breaking tradition and staying the night before the cruise at Cocoa Beach. I'm sure if you leave early enough, you can avoid the traffic jam on the Beeline/Beachline. My DH is an aviator and is absolutely thrilled we might be able to watch the show from the deck of Magic or even our balcony! For this reason, we're also spending most of our St. Maarten day on Maho Beach watching the jets land on people's heads! There's a great bar there, by the way, where you can listen to air traffic control and watch all the planes come in.

I have a beach picture and the plane seems like it is about 50 feet from the ground. You need a drink with planes coming in that close. :lmao:

I sure hope cat 3 Hurricane Omar doesn't close any of the ports for an extended time it ripped right in between St. Thomas and St. Maartin. :sad2:

I have been thinking about Omar also. Hoping that he would go away fast. Hopefully there is nothing behind it. I usually keep closer watch of the storms but this year I have not been able to follow the hurricanes as closely. One of the reasons I go on cruises in Nov is because basically hurricane season is over. Go away hurricanes go away!

Good morning guys. Can someone give me a kick in the butt and help me get motivated? Just not there yet. If I wait until the last minute, I will leave something very important at home-like the passports, then stressing out trying to get everything done will get me sick, then I will ruin the vacation
for my family....ugh I feel like Debbie Downer today.... You all are so with it!!

But I did see the Johnny Depp will star in the Pirates 4!! Now that is some good news. Love him!pirate:

Yes he does play a great pirate: doesn't he. I remember when he was on 21 Jump Street years ago and liked him then. Had a feeling he would go far he just had that way about him. You'll get with it soon enough. Just try to start putting some things in a corner this weekend. Put the passports in the bag that you will be carring on board this way you won't forget them. It will all work out. I'm trying to stay calm, but I can feel it all inside getting excited.:woohoo:

Hey everyone!! This is my first Cruise but my friends told me all about fish extenders! How do I get on the list? I tried sending a message to Morgan4 but it said I didn't have enough posts?
I need help!
thanks so much!
Christine

Morgan4, Kate will update the list with your recent post. I have already updated mine.

Sorry everyone that you had to read so many of my posts but as I read them I added my two cents to them. Well it pushes the post count up also. I just wasn't able to get on here the last couple of days. See everyone soon it is getting closer. :dance3: Don't have mine yet :confused3 I hope I get my docs soon!!!!!

Hey all... trying to get pre-organized before the big packing day. Would you recommend packing toys for my 2.5 year old or do you think she'll be to busy on the ship? I've never been but since the rooms aren't the biggest... what do you think? Maybe just her leapfrog or dvd player??

Hi! Just want to know if Maho Beach is close to the port, we have a scheduled excursion until about 2:30pm and just wondering if we can go to Maho beach just to take pictures of the jets landing. Thanks!

I'm doing the docs dance:cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: Picked up our docs today! Started packing but feeling overwhelmed. It always works out fine though.

DeAnna and Deborah- Thank you so much for the directions! Such a big help. Thanks again.

Everyone- Happy packing. Can't wait to meet everyone. I hope we make it to St. Thomas too. DH and I got married there 7 years ago on 11/07/01. So we are celebrating our Anniver. on the cruise. You can see the hotel we got married at when you pull into port. It's always special for us. Bye for now- Bo

PS- Was showing my DD our wedding pictures yesterday and there was a pic of us on the beach with the Magic in the background leaving port. Also right after we got married they blew the horn and we heard "When you wish..." Just a coincidence but extra special even DH was touched.

How wonderful for you! Everytime that horn blows my eyes fill with tears and my dh just laughs at me! He calls me the biggest baby on the ship!:rotfl2: . Just can't wait to get there and meet everyone. So much to celebrate and so much fun to have for everyone!:dance3:

You have to remember that it will be St. Maarten day. The roads may be bad depending on the race, ceremonies, etc taking place that day.

If you look at the map I linked to, the docks are located in block J8, basically where the American Express symbol is. Maho Beach is in H3. It's located right next to where Queen Juliana Airport is shown. From looking at things, it looks like it's about a 10-12 mile, winding drive through the mountains to the aiport.

Plus, there's one added thing. Queen Juliana Airport is not an Atlanta, Chicago, New York type airport. Just glancing at their schedule, there is only three planes set to land daily between 3-4 PM. You could have long wait times in between planes.

Like Motzart said, it is a drive and I know that they are saying with traffic and the bridge, you should leave yourself at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get back from there.

BTW - how do you pronounce your name? Just want to say it right when I yell it across the terminal!!!

Has anyone heard anything about what may be going on on St. Maarten's Day?

I tried asking on another board, and got no real responses other than what we already know.

I wanted to know if there were any parades....festivals.... or something like that, that may be fun to see. Or is it a day off, nothing going on kind of day?

What is everyone doing on St Thomas?

We don't have anything planned and are wondering if we should go to St. John....sitesee on St Thomas.... shopping is a must (because of St Maartens Day).

Beach am...Shopping Pm or
Shopping am...than beach or touring the island?

Thoughts? :surfweb:

Anyone purchase the Dicapac waterproof camera bag?

Looking into getting one, just wanted experiences.
