November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

** ** These are the dates for our cruise ** **

Book the Port Adventures, adult-exclusive dining, spa and fitness, nursery time, excursions, cabanas, spa treatments, etc. as soon as you are able to. In order to book these pre-cruise, you have to be paid in full. Once paid, the ability to reserve depends on your Castaway Club status (how many times you have cruised with DCL in the past):

  • Never cruised on DCL, - Can reserve 75 days prior to cruising, starting 12:01 AM on 9/10/2012
  • 1-5 previous cruises (Silver status), - Can reserve 90 days prior to cruising, 8/26/2012
  • 6 – 10 previous cruises (Gold status), - Can reserve 105 days prior to cruising, starting 12:01 AM on 8/11/2012
  • 11 plus previous cruises (Platinum status), - Can reserve 120 days prior to cruising, starting 12:01 AM on 7/26/2012

If you are interested in Remy Dinner, Palo Dinner, or Palo Brunch, I suggest you try to get those first! If you are able to book it, save your reservation. You are able to book (sort of fill your cart) multiple reservations, but if you wait until the end, you could lose your dining reservation!

If this is your first time sailing with DCL, you might find this tutorial helpful that one of my shipmates (Pudo) put together back in 2010!

So, if I can offer a "question of the week", we seem to have "seasoned" cruisers here on this thread. I know that when I go to the World, DW and I have a routine that we like to do on our fist day. Remembering our two previous cruises, I don't think we had a routine as much as we took the first day to explore the ship and get the lay of the land after we ate lunch. I think we are planning on pretty much doing the same thing again this cruise. May I inquire if anyone has a "set" itinerary they like to keep to on the first day? Is the bon voyage party a must do after the muster is over? Champaigne on the varanda? Just curious.

We usually just wander around after lunch until the rooms are ready. Last summer we attended the DVC meeting since we had just bought DVC at WDW about two days prior. It was fun and the kids loved the free sparkling cider drinks they had.

We have always attended the sail away party on the Magic/Wonder but on the Dream last summer we did not want to deal with the crowds so we did sailaway on Deck 4. So much nicer. A lot of the officers came out on deck before sailaway and Max (Goofy's nephew) was there and took pics with the kids, etc. It was a fun way to start the cruise.

the remy lunch with champagne pairings sounds fab, but my bf is a vegetarian, who will eat fish if pressed, but definitely so seafood or meat. i think this is out for us too :( maybe i'll have to surprise him with remy dinner in lieu of one of our other dining experiences. or maybe we can leave it til our next cruise, next year. .

We have a somewhat set routine, but this year it will be slightly altered. . .

  • Typically, we wear our bathing suits under our clothes (Linda likes to attempt to be the first one in the pool)
  • we then go to wherever you currently need to go to report allergies ( I sadly have a citrus allergy)
  • We also go wherever you go for Palo reservations (I'm hoping we already have our ressies - I just want to request Laszlo! )
  • Then lunch (preferably at Cabanas)
  • Then to our Stateroom
Now this is where things will be altered for this cruise . . . we typically
  • Check out our room
  • go to the muster drill
  • then back to our room to unpack (well, Linda unpacks, I sit on the verandah with a beer . . . I'm the planner she is the organizer!!)
This cruise however, we are doing the b2b, so, we will already be unpacked so we will hopefully be attending the sailaway party!!

Great question. My DW and I live close to Port Canaveral, so our routine is we typically don’t rush to the port and we check in later than most people. We can go straight to our cabin and drop off carried on bags. Then we can eat lunch, walk around the ship, go topside and have drinks at the sail away party. (Although this time we are cruising with our dear friends Jon and family, so we will be getting on board earlier).

However, for most cruisers, the first day can be a fairly hectic and stressful day: Get to Port Canaveral. Go through Security. Check in. Get on board. Find your cabin. Eat lunch. Walk around the ship pointing at everything in awe. Attend the mandatory Lifeboat drill. Go to the meet and greet. Go back to cabin and wait for luggage. Rush to dinner.

I can tell you one of the best tools for any day at sea (especially the first day) are finding past Navigators’ (issued daily of what is happening around the ship) people have posted on line. Although each cruise is different, you will get a good idea of what activities are happening that day.

Don’t miss the sail away party. Standing topside waving to the folks on shore and then watching land slowly fade off into the distance is wonderful.

Lastly, get on the AquaDuck as soon as possible. It is AWESOME!!!

I have mentioned this before - but I don't know if I have on this thread or not . . . I am a huge chicken. . . but I LOVED this!!!

We are taking this cruise to celebrate my big 50 - so, when there is no line, it is not an advantage to me!! We thought we lucked out the one time but climbing the stairs with no breakfs nearly broke me!!! The line moves pretty fast . . .

Kind of my thought on the sail-away party too. I am looking forward to the DIS meet at three then after the muster I thought we might go back to the room which is on the starboard side for sail-away and some room-service cheese and crackers. May want to think about wandering down to deck four though and see if anything is happening.:goodvibes

congratulations on reaching that milestone in your life (or is that millstone?). A back-to-back sounds really exciting. Hope you pass along some great tips to us at the DIS meet based on the prior week's trip.

To make it easier for those of you who haven't checked the fish extender list lately: as of today there are 15 boys, 15 girls, and 44 adults in 24 staterooms registered for the FE.

Thanks for that information. I am still trying to think what I am going to do this time around for FE's. I try to do something that everyone will enjoy (I hope).

All this information is awesome. Even though I have been on a Disney cruise before, it is still very helpful. Love the ideas as well.

Blandon is about 45 min to an hour away from Lititz. Love Lititz. We stayed at a wonderful inn near there in Leola called the Inn at Leola Village. It was beautiful. Do you live in Lititz?

no but I have family in Lititz and Lancaster :thumbsup2

For most of our cruises, we would get to the boat, eat lunch, go to stateroom, if available. try to hit the pool, go to muster party and maybe go to the sail-away party. I think things for us are going to change since this will be our first one with out DD.

Most likely eat, pool, check out kids activities and definitely do sail-away party.

From there, whatever the little one wants. Hopefully pool.

I can always wake up early or stay up late and take pictures.
