November 2011 car rentals

Is anyone able to get good rates for a minivan? I have been trying for days & can't seem to find a rate for less than $500! We are renting the minivan from 11/7 (MCO) and returning it on 11/14 (Dolphin). Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm helping two friends with rentals in October. I used BCDX474200 with Budget and got one a mini van for 236.00. This is a travelocity code and they are in Orlando now. They had no problem with this code and love the van. I'm working on another rental 10/29 - 11/5 and have had no luck. No matter codes I try rates are crazy high. I have no idea what is going on that week, but it's absurd.

I have no idea if the Budget code is still active, but it definitely helped them.

I just got an amazing deal !!! A 7 passenger mini van from Nov. 4- 18 for the grand total of $374.28 !!! I used a previous suggestion of booking on the half hour which seemed to help. I used the COSTCO ID of 7014627 and the Code AD2359FDF. When I first started looking at van rentals back in Aug. the best rate I got was $728.48. This new rate is almost 1/2 of that.

I don't have Costco membership -- any luck with any other codes for a mini van?

Once again, I've saved money on rental car by checking back on prices. Learned from the past 2 times renting cars that prices fluctuate as stated on this thread. I've already changed reservations once but just did it again and saved $50!

My SIL got a good deal with Advantage - $146.61 for a mini van for a week. She used a code from Car & Driver that anyone can use. CDP 1757580
I was going to use Advantage, but somehow the minivan from Alamo for 2 weeks ended up being $20.00 less.

I'm getting SERIOUS sticker shock from the rates I'm finding for our Dec. 13 days! WAY more than last December! Guess I'm gonna just book something and hope prices drop...drastically!

We have been able to save from 300 to 184 as of yesterday by going through Southwest site and rebooking, using the coupon code AD2359FDF for mid-size car. Have not been as luck for a small SUV, but at least now it is so much better. Rental time is 11/17 to 11/24.

We have a mid-sized car from Alamo from Nov. 25 - Dec 4 and are paying $215.13 total using the ID code 7014696 and coupon AD8Z21SDB for $40 off from BJs. I booked this way back in March and am so glad I did with the way prices are now.

Do you have to present the coupon for them to see? Tried using these codes and it says that the coupon might have to be shown when car is picked up. Thanks!

I have never been asked to present the actual BJs coupon or proof of membership, but always have both with me. The coupons are on the wall of the store on your way out. Ask the guy who checks your recipt where they are if you can't find them.

And finally found a good rate (or a better rate than what I had) for Nov 16-26th. Alamo $214 for a Corolla-sized car.

Just got an even lower rate by going through the COSTCO travel site. I now have a minivan from Nov. 4-18 for the grand total of $326.07 !!!
You do have to be a COSTCO member & put in your membership number in order to rent through the site. I am very very happy !!!!

I got an 8-day rental thru Southwest's site for an SUV (Ford Escape or similar) for $216.35.

I previously had Budget, same timeframe and same size vehicle for $252.00. If I keep searching, maybe I can do even better.

Came back to add that thanks to mema26, I checked out Costco's offers and found an even better deal. I got an intermediate SUV, Ford Escape or similar, for 8 days in early November for $171.24 including all taxes and fees. This makes my rate about $22 a day, which is more like what the good old days used to be. Considering I started out at $251 with Budget this morning and now I am down to $171 with Alamo, I am more than pleased.

I searched Costco Travel [is that what you are using?] for Mini van rates - Nov 10-22 and it was over $700. I thought if it came in at a good price, I would go ahead and join Costco. No great price for me showed up.

The good price for a mini van through costco is if you are renting for 2 weeks. Anything less and the prices are much higher.

If you return early, they will change the rate.
