November 15, 2008 7 night Western 11/15/08 11-15-08

I saw someone post that you cannot wear shorts to dinner...is this true? A few nights I had planned khaki shorts and a polo or collared shirt for my husband to wear. Is this a no-no? I don't want to stand out if this isn't the norm so please let me know. I think for my son I am going to let him wear khaki shorts and a polo shirt to dinner. He's just a kid.

No shorts allowed in the dining rooms... it's listed in the cruise contract (I believe) and in the Navigators. It also states that tank tops and swimwear is not allowed.

Angie
I booked through the TA, Small World Travel.
Would you recommend me bringing a long dress if the dress code has relaxed?
I would like to wear it, but if I am in the minority I will stick with a LBD
I think I will just stick with my 'bum bag' ( I will never forget the look of shock when someone asked DD where she got her 'fanny pack'. that word has different connotations over here!):rotfl:

A long dress is perfectly fine for formal or semi-formal night. I'm going with (2) LBDs only because I had to buy 2 in August... one is halter style that I wore to a wedding (my BIL got married and black and white were the wedding colors) and the other I bought for a funeral a week later (MIL). I actually may bring a long (black - LOL) spaghetti strap dress for Palo too. What's weird is I never wear black! DH will be renting a tux. I was planning on buying something else... but I think I've spent enough on dresses already, so I'll make due with what I have.

Bum bag sounds much cuter than fanny pack! ;)

We were on the the Wonder in Nov. '07, and more than not were in shorts, so DH has changed his wardrobe to suits and shorts. I'm sure the polo shirt is must...:cool1:

I've never been on the Wonder, but I've read that it's a lot more casual than the Magic. Although the dress code on the Magic has relaxed enough to allow jeans in the dining rooms, they still don't recommend wearing shorts.

Right now, I'm looking at recent Navigators (October 4 Western Itinerary) which state the "Evening Attire" for Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, & Friday is "Cruise Casual: Shorts, tanktops, or swimwear are not appropriate".

If any of you are brave enough to ask on the main cruise board, feel free! Be forewarned though that you may not get a positive response. I've seen many DISers attacked when asking over the years.

Well I believe DH has plenty of pants but my son does not. He is really in between sizes and has trouble with pants being too long so I really haven't bought any.
Last question, I am hoping that on pirate night if we are dressing up this won't be a big deal? Can we wear our costumes to dinner or do we have to change into them after dinner?

I'm actually thinking about bringing just 1 pair of pants each for my 3 boys (8, 10, & 12). I'm guessing we'll only eat together as a family in the dining rooms 4 of the 7 nights - and one of those nights will actually be pirate night. They'll only have the pants on for an hour and two... then they can come back to the room and immediately change back into shorts! ;) We'll have very limited luggage space since I'm hoping to take just 7 suitcases for the 8 of us. I'm needing to pack enough clothes for our pre and post-cruise nights in Orlando, as well as the 7-night cruise --- and I don't want to do any laundry this trip!

Oops! Forgot the pirate part! You can definitely wear costumes to dinner if you wish to do so! The servers even give out bandanas to get everyone in the pirate mood. I actually didn't make it to dinner on pirate night last cruise... remind me to share that story when I see you! It's pretty funny! :rotfl:

Wow I could never just bring 1 pair of pants. My kids are too messy and would for certain spill on them. My daughter loves to wipe her hands on her shirts! We plan to eat together all but Palo night. So question when we eat there and send them to the kids club do they eat at the kids club or do we order them room service first? Also how late is the kids club opened? Just asking because I am interested in an adults night out with whoever wants to. My kids seem to think there is a slumber party with goofy or something....is that true.
Finally what is this navigator you all are talking about?

I think the pants will be okay... if not, I will do emergency laundry! I'm hoping that if the boys spill, it will be on their shirts. ;)

Last time, we planned to have dinner as a family, but the kids had other ideas. There were often fun club activities going on that they didn't want to miss, or they were starving an hour before dinner time and they begged to eat chicken tenders and fries instead. Plus, they really didn't enjoy sitting at the table for 1 1/2 to 2 hours (and it really does take that long). This time, we'll just go with the flow. I do think we'll eat dinner together a few times, but I doubt it will work out every night.

The kids can eat at the club (you'll be able to see each group's scheduled dinner time in the Navigator) or you can order room service for the kids or grab something on Deck 9 (pizzas, chicken tenders, sandwiches, etc...). Topsider's will be open too!

The clubs are open until about midnight. There are slumber parties for each age group once during the week. The kids wear their PJs, but still come back to your stateroom to sleep.

The Navigator is a daily schedule of events. You'll get an overview of the week at check-in as well as your Saturday Navigator, and then your stateroom host/hostess will deliver the next day's Navigator each night.

PM me with your email and I'll send a copy of the Western itinerary Navigators from the week of October 4th! :)

Speaking of Navigators, if anyone is interested in viewing the set from the first Western after drydock, please PM me! Our schedule should be very similar!!!

Hi,

Sorry to take up room but I haven't posted enough to be allowed to PM you. I'd like to see the Navigators if you have time!

Thanks

I am definitely up for this!! My fav!

I just finished filling out my forms online. Better late than never. My closet is a wreck. I need to get out my suitcases and put some organization to those many department store bags. I have found some great deals on summer stuff. My DH wonders why I need all that. My DD's stuff is also in there. (Good excuse):rotfl2: Still looking for a cute pirate outfit.

We are in Room 8028. Anyone near us?

I am thinking about the 5k. I have never ran one. I usually run on the treadmill at the gym. Only about 2.5 miles. Not usually very long of a distance outside. How flat is this course?

Can you tell I am getting anxious and excited!!

I filled in the online forms yesterday and decided to just check the times of our Palo and parasailing ressies, but they were not there:scared1:
I rang DCL who told me that I must not have confirmed them.
I can't believe I was up at 4.30 to log on and now have lost them, I'm sure I booked them properly, I even checked later that week!
Anyhow I managed to get the last parasailing slot for DD and I will just have to queue for Palo once onboard.
Sue

Sue,
Sorry to hear about your reservations. I keep checking mine, because, usually, things like that happen to me all the time. So far so good though, everything is still there!

Wow I don't know if my kids will want to sit through a long dinner either. Not their strong suit. Hopefully they will love the kids club and want to eat there occassionally. I have not rechecked my ressies since I made them. As to filling out online forms are you speaking of the kids club? Are there other forms I should have filled out? I am afraid I am missing something!

OK Ladies...I swear I will not notice if your kids wear the same pair of pants to dinner every night. I will be blind to that I promise!!! They could actually wear the same outfit every day (If they're like mine, they probably will, regardless of what you pack!) and I will not even notice. If they spill ketchup all over themselves, there's dry cleaning and laundry.

My blindness is a gift to you guys for all your hard work and planning...now go unpack the four pairs of dress pants you've packed for your 8 yr old DS so you have penty of suitcase room for your Duty Free finds:laughing:

I think the magical number for being able to PM is 10 posts... you're almost there! :) If you'd like to make 5 random posts, you can send me your email thru PM, and I can forward the Navigators over to you (in .pdf format). You could also just post your email here and then go back and delete/edit your post after I snatch your email addy from this thread. :thumbsup2

I just noticed we are down to 27 days until we board!!! WooHoo!

There are forms for your CC details, next of kin and a contract to sign as well as the kids club. They are all in with your cruise tickets but it's supposed to save time at the port if you fill them out online. Just log on to 'My cruise plans'

25 days for us!
Oops that came out a bit big- not that I'm boasting, I just can't wait

25 days and I haven't really started my diet UGH I give up! Thanks for the info on the online forms. I got it done today!:surfweb:
