Hey Guys! Sorry to be "in and out" so much lately. First it was due to the storm, and now it's due to DH being out of town (bow hunting in New Mexico for 2 weeks) which leaves me to handle the house, DS, and our business. I have soooooo much respect for single working moms.
Dis_Nurse, believe it or not,,,, it has NOT rained a drop since Katrina, and thanks to Ophelia the humidity has been low. This weather has been so nice since so many people have spent a huge portion of it outside cleaning up the area. As you drive down the road it feels as if you are driving thru a tunnel. The several feet of sand that completely hide our road has been plowed to the side. Since our sand is sugar white and granular it looks A LOT like driving thru a snow bank. Then you'll see piles of "stuff" - doors, appliances, clothes, furniture, wood etc. This is where we stacked the items we picked up from our yard and surrounding area and placed roadside for pickup. It will be several weeks before the sand has been sifted and replaced on the beach and the "stuff" has been hauled to the dump or recycled.
Barkley, did I read that you too graduated in '85? I spent last weekend celebrating my 20th reunion. It turned out incredible!!! The only downside was several people could not make it due to Katrina, gas shortage, etc. We had a class of 384 and only 92 people were able to attend. I too, would not have attended if I was not in charge of the reunion. Thank goodness the vast majority of the planning and organizing was done prior to the storm's landfall. And,,,,,the most important thing is Katrina only brushed Pensacola (45 miles east of Gulf Shores) so all of the venues I booked were able to re-open before our big weekend. But, in the end, I'm sooooo glad I went. Seeing everyone, and reliving all those memories was AWESOME!!!! It was better than our 10 year reunion.
