November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

:flower: we too are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.....although it technically will be Oct. 16th...we are planning this trip as a "yeah, to us!" It is also the only way I could get the management at work to let be off for two weeks....especially over a major Holiday (Thanksgiving). :cool1: We also have a "rule" at work that you can't ask for time off greater than 6 mo. in advance! So how was I gonna' go for the DCL cruise without approval? Answer: milk the heck out of our anniversary and ask for "special circumstances"......I don't like all the rules at my hospital....but there literally isn't anyone to replace me when I am gone...I guess good job security! :teeth:

We will have something put on the door. No doubt wife is thinking about it already :).

Dis Nurse we will have to toast to the 10 years you and your husband and my wife and I. (And of course anyone who wants buy :rolleyes1 )

Amazingly enough, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary on that cruise (November 10, 1995)....here's to everyone else celebrating the past decade!

The show was similar to the dvd you get when you booked your cruise, except it shows how they built two pieces of the ship separately, then brought them together....very neat!

Other than going to Palo one night for dinner w/ DW, I wasn't planning anything special for the 10th....just an awesome time w/ the kids relaxing and enjoying the superior service from DCL.

By the way, we are pulling the kids from school...which their teacher didn't like the last time. But, since the oldest will be in 3rd grade...kind of young to be doing too much hardcore math, etc. I figured he won't miss too much in a week. He'll do some reading, and we will try :rotfl: to do some math problems...yeah right.

Anyway, there is no guilt...how many other kids get to go on a cruise and spend a solid week of quality family time, IMHO.

Take Care!

Jay

DH and I are celebrating our anniversary, but like DIS Nurse - we are in October. Still, romance at sea must be "MAGIC" Unlike the rest of you that posted it is not our 10th. I won't post the year since it is a surprise to DH. But I do not think he has found this site yet. :rolleyes1

Been reading the boards about excursions, still have not planned ours yet. Too many choices and not enough time. Keep the suggestions coming for the Eastern. Thus far, the 5 star and the Ecohike both look inviting (and completely different). :earboy2:

Signing off. :wave2:

a lot of people book their excursion with some of the tour companies direct. This may save you money up front but you may have to prepay. For the beach trip we will just take a cab or rent a car. This way we can spend more time at the beach and leave when we get ready. :cool1:

:teeth: I must confess that I still occasionally snoop on the Intercot dicussion boards....ALTHOUGH THEY AREN'T NEAR AS COOL AND LAYED OUT AS DIS BOARDS!.... :wizard: ....I don't even have a post "name" yet and only last night registered....only beacuse I found a whole bunch of people talking back and forth about going on the 7-night eastern on NOV. 12th! :flower: Don't people know THIS BOARD is the only DIS BOARD? :grouphug:

It's great to see this thread growing! :cool1: We've considered canceling this cruise (because we're sailing DCL again in March, 2006), but when I read all this enthusiasm, I know I'll never cancel! You just can't sail too many times on the Magic! :teeth:

:badpc: OMG! Cancel a DCL cruise? :badpc: If you 'got the funds...then by all means do it! :cheer2: If nothing else it is for your mental health (away from the daily grind! pirate: )

I am a little envious you won't have your kids with you....but for our first cruise I cannot imagine NOT having our kids with us! It is really IS ALL ABOUT THEM! :rotfl: ....whether I want to admit that or not. :grouphug:

And with you knowing that you are returning just months later....wow! You won't be NEAR as depressed as we all will be stepping off that ship on Nov. 19th. :guilty:

We are avoiding the post-cruise depression by going on to the new Nickelodeon hotel for 5 more nights.....BB/TL/maybe Wet N' Wild.....and certainly one day at MK. :cool1: :wave2:

Ouch! Christmas presents are going to be slim this year! Oh, well...I would rather spend it on this type of present than another "Slime-cano"...the world's worst Hotwheels invention that Santa fell for last year :worship:

yea right :rotfl: If it was left up to me , I would spend most of my Christmas away from home so I would not have to buy a gift. :p

Hey DisNurse,

It was just a little temporary insanity! I don't think I really could cancel a DCL trip...DH would have to make that call! :earseek: We waited 12 years after our daughter was born before we took a vacation without her. Now, we try to take at least one trip with the kids and one without every year!

Is the Nick hotel the Holiday Inn on S International Drive? We live very near there and have watched it transform over the past few months. We even saw Spongebob and Dora out front a few weeks ago. Very cool (My two year old was thrilled!) What a GREAT trip for your kids! :teeth: They'll have thrill after thrill!

Happy cruise planning, everyone!

:mickeybar

Yes, the Nickelodeon hotel is the one being refurbished to the hilt....I think I read in the millions and millions of dollars...all kid friendly suites with mini kitchens! The pools and slides are to die for! :flower: We stayed last year at the Marriott Grande Vista which is also on (south?) I-Drive and my understanding that this Nick hotel was only 1 mile from MK? So that doesn't make sense to me...but then again I don't know Orlando very well. When we got off the airplane last Oct, we didn't know WHERE the heck we were going! What should have been a very straight forward drive to MGV ended up 45 minutes later into the BOWELS of Orlando...and if you don't mind me saying...... :guilty: WHAT A PIT! It is no wonder we didn't get knifed at some intersection! The kids were passed out in the back after a 6 hour flight so they didn't care....BUT WE DID! I felt like such a loser getting lost like that...in "the land of WDW"of all places! Boy were we glad to see our beautiful resort finally! :flower:

Anyway...I just found the address of the Nick hotel.....it's 14500 Continental Gateway if that makes sense. We'll be driving from the Port to that address....any hints so we don't end up in the BOWELS of Orlando again? :confused3 I can just see the intestines now.... :sad2: EeeWWW! Thay are BAD! :guilty:

P.S. Anyone else thinking about rebooking for the following Nov (2006) while we are on board this time!? We are seriously thinking about it..... :flower: and it sounds like such an opportunity! November 11, 2006, 7 night Western with 2 stops at CC! (By-passes Key West)...special stop at Costa Maya! I happened to jump over to that Cruise Meets and BOY!....there is a crazy bunch of repeat offenders planning that cruise! :grouphug: It sounds wild and crazy.....and FUN! :cheer2: :cool1: :flower:

Dis Nurse,

Sorry about your "adventure" into the bowels of Orlando! Yikes. I promise I'll provide direct, easy and SAFE directions from the Port to your hotel. And the Nick hotel is about 1 mile to WDW property...probably 5 miles to the Magic Kingdom. :earsboy:

Regarding rebooking onboard...definately! That's how we ended up with two cruises, this time. My husband and I sailed in September and we couldn't decide whether to book another cruise without the kids or a family vacation. In the end, we booked both! Obviously, the pixie dust worked its Magic! :wizard:

I just made my deposit with DU for November 12th! We are treating DMIL and her sister for DMIL's 75th birthday. It will be me, DH, DS11, DS8,DD6 DMIL and Aunt. I can't wait! It took a little convincing to get DH to do the cruise, but he's "on board" (get it? :rotfl2: ) with it now! We love WDW and are having a hard time not going there. Maybe we can add a few days at WDW at the end since our kids are off of school for all of Thanksgiving week.

Patzfan jay - it looks like we each have a DS8 and DD6! Have you lived in Andover all your life? My brother in law is from there and he is your age. (And he is a rabid Patriots and Red Sox fan!!)

Count us in too! My DH and I will be travelling with our DD who will be 10 by then!!! Can't wait!

 :cool1:  :cool1: WELCOME ABOARD! Tell us how you guys organized an "informal" on-board meeting with adults and kids alike? I can tell that many of our kids already are going to be brushing shoulders in the Lab/CLub :flower:

count us in too-just booked today throught dvc. this will be our (me, hubbs, daughter (11) and son (8)) 3rd time on board. we've done the 4 day as well as the "inaugural" 7 day to cozumel (hugo had danced around such that the itinerary was changed a week before we left-but everyone liked it so much that they decided to add cozumel as a port). we are very hopeful that we will make it to castaway cay this 2, so far we are zero for two (hugo slammed it the first time, and we were in the middle of michelle before she hit florida). whatever the case-i will just sooooo look forward to being on board!

so is anyone interested in getting together and meeting face to face? we did this on our last trip and it was great! another thing we did was have each of the kids bring a handful of postcards from their home state-the kids traded these and learned about where everyone was from (our daughter's teacher let her do a show and tell with it when she got back).

take care all-counting down the days, hours, minutes....

:cool1: That is a fabulous idea! Especially since most of us are pulling our kids out of school to do this one! Let's add a little more educating twist to it! :wizard: :wave2: :teacher: :teacher: :teacher: :teacher:
Where about do you live in Northern Calif? I grew up there and still have friends and family there...I am also on the west coast...way up in the Cascade mountains of Oregon. :cold: We are still cold and snowy but looking forward to the summer! :sunny:

P.S. I saw we accidentally have another thread started for this cruise...I have suggested we use this one since we can stay all together :grouphug:

Can't wait to board and will add my 2 cents to a meet and greet on board - after we make all the necessary reservations of course. :goodvibes. We have no DKs (That's Disney kids) to tag along but would enjoy meeting yours. :grouphug:

Welcome aboard to all newcomers. :teeth: It took some time, but we're really growing now.

And by the way, don't worry about starting the extra thread...it is at least the third thread for this cruise date...I started one a few weeks before DisNurse, but simply jumped over here when I spotted this one! :cheer2: ;)
