Hello! I'm gonna go ahead and post a few thoughts before life gets in the way and I don't get time. Everyone, including the dog, is asleep already, absolutely exhausted, so this might be my last chance before I have to catch up on 8 days of laundry, newspapers, snail mail and 1177 emails! (1175 of which are probably junk, but I go thru regardless!)
Okay, first, let me say how much I enjoyed DIStag and how many great things we got! My girls and I loved doing it and even DH got in the swing of it. So many great bags! I felt quite ashamed of mine after seeing some of y'all's! So many, many thanks. I can hardly wait to get in the suitcase they are in and go thru them again. So many of you I didn't get to meet and so wanted to, or just met at the DISmeet and then forgot name to face. I don't think I ever met the other Melanies or Lauri or Phoeberella or Spotdute or some of the others. Really sorry I didn't get to speak to all you nice folks.
Now on to other things: Let me speak of the not-so-great first. And honestly? There were hardly any. I wasn't real pleased with the CMs attitude in the kid's club, but my girls didn't much like it anyway so that was fine. I just found them to be snotty and smart-assy (excuse moi language) but that's the truth. NO ONE told me the locaters had to be returned so they were going to charge me $50 for those until my wonderful stateroom guy Clifford fished them out of the garbage for me. Mary Kim is the only CM here that I can praise, sadly enough. I think this group needs a break from the kids or just a general overhaul of the clubs is in order. I noticed this on my comment card, of which I included 3 pages of
DCL stationary!!
The saving of seats in the theatre is getting out of hand. We didn't have a problem and the boat wasn't full so the shows weren't packed, but every time someone was saving not just 2 or 3 seats but whole rows or sometime two. I don't know why they won't use some CMs as ushers to put an end to some of this. One night, one older couple saved a whole row by sitting on each end and no one else ever came and after the show started she just went and sat with the man. Sigh..... Also noticed on my 3 page long comment card!
Filip in Shutters was awful with my girls, who are fairly easy. Really, if you can't handle children's photography (which is a calling) don't work for Disney!! Also duly noted...
DH thought the ship was in not-great-shape. Worse than the Wonder last year (I didn't notice a thing). Caulk all over the tiles, that kind of thing. Didn't see as many people cleaning, etc on Deck 9 either.
Okay, the very minor negatives are out of the way. Now let me preface the following by saying this--I don't believe we will ever be able to go back on another
Disney cruise. This one had so many unbelievably Magical moments that won't happen again (and you can't expect to) that it will be hard for another to live up to. I'm gonna hit the high points without boring y'all to tears--if you want the longer version, just let me know!
*Started with DD5, Flannery, getting to be one of the dwarfs in The Golden Mickeys. And the one that gets to hold Snow White's hand! That hand to be a cruise best, right? Nope. Just wait....
*My DD3, Helena, after the Golden Mickeys in Studio Sea, taking over the stage from Mickey, Cinderella and Goofy by doing her "ballet." Okay, yes, this is all sickening Mom stuff, so sue me!! It was still adorable!!
*Flannery, who has been Peter Pan OBSESSED since she was 3, her face when she saw Peter for the first time. She just RAN into his arms. After that, Peter (and Wendy, too) never failed to call her by name. "Peter" was SO good to her and kind to her. I made sure to note this on the comments. ALL the characters were incredibly kind and attentive. I can't say enough nice things about all of them.
*The same night, Flannery put on her new Peter Pan suit that Peter had left her on the cruise when we boarded (wink, wink) and while she was having her pic made (again) with Peter, sword and all, Capt. Hook ran over and stole her sword and started putting on a show. Flannery started to tear up until the photo CM said, "Say tick, tock" which she did and which made Hook run and act all scared and they ran to Peter and it was just this whole little show in and of itself. So cute and spontaneous. I really thought THIS was going to be my "wow" moment. Nope.
*Got a hammock the second time at CC! Wow! Did that really happen? DH wasn't impressed but then slept in it all afternoon. While I got cornrows, ahem...
*Got to my room Thursday night and there were certificates on my fish. Beautifully done with calligraphy and ribbon and all. One said to Flannery "biggest Peter Pan fan on board" and the other to Helena was "Cutest Cinderella on board." These were done and left by Diana from Treasure Ketch who was so kind and friendly all week. And German like DH! Just so sweet and special!
*Friday morning after breakfast we have an envelope on our fish. It was a personal invitation from Rachel, cruise director, to a special charter meet, in private or whatever, before "Til we Meet Again" that night. WOW. We had to prop the girls' eyes open with toothpicks all evening to make sure they didn't fall asleep because we WERE NOT going to miss this! Still don't know what brought on the invite but it was so exciting. Now this WAS the "Magical" moment! There were, I think, four families, probably less than 20 people. (Michelle was there with her bunch!!) We went in Studio Sea and sat and they closed the doors and here comes all the characters--even the show people! It was so great! Just one on one. And then Peter walks in and Flannery just ran to him. And he gave her pixie dust--Mickey glitter in a red silk bag, but pixie dust from Peter Pan all the same. She was OVER THE MOON, let me tell ya. Had eyes for no one else, cared about nothing else. "I can fly now, Momma." I cry thinking of it. Just a moment that I can't thank Disney enough for giving us.
*After all THAT, we go back to our room and there is ANOTHER bag on our fish! Good grief! This time there was a handwritten envelope to Helena and Flannery from the Kid's Club and inside the bag were two Oceaneer Clubs floppy beach type hats signed with all the characters. I still have no idea who did that or why but they are great!
See? Just unbelievable things, one after the other. Stars that will never align that way again. Just a great, great trip. Magical.
A few other comments--DH DID go to TWO Mexican hardware stores on Cozumel! And found out their tools are just like ours!! (And that apparently you can also get "women" there--but that's a whole other story!!)
We really liked Costa Maya. Too aggressive at the pier for me and too commercial a bit, but we went to Majahaul (?) and spent the day at the beach and it was beautiful. A little uncomfortable with all the selling, but I really like this port and would go again.
Other CMs of note: Jamee in Shutters was great with my girls, great stateroom host Clifford and Diana in Merchandise (as noted above), LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Adrian from the Philippines in Topsiders. We would on purpose go there instead of the dining rooms at night just to have him. (We didn't find Angelina and Dwight as great as Jackie, sorry to say.) He is to be promoted to dining soon, so I would request him if any of you are going back. And cute, too! Also liked Christijan from Croatia in Palo. Which is fantastic. We did brunch and supper--don't miss it if you can. Girls hated the clubs so we didn't force them back twice in one day for high tea, so can't report on that.
And speaking of Topsiders, did y'all notice the watermelon carvings there? I saw the fish and flower and all at breafast, but the pirates? WOW! I thought they were mask decorations until Stephan pointed out they were watermelon. REALLY, really good stuff. I made pics for those of you who didn't see/notice. I have no idea how to post them, but if someone wants to tell me, I will! (I can't even figure out the smilies....)
The shows were fantastic, thought the merchandise was slim this year and disappointing (too character oriented in clothing, rather have DCL stuff), happy with my photo mats, disembarking was a breeze, embarking was CHAOTIC and awful (that kid's line? Unbelievable and unnecessary?), spent way too much at Shutters (TWO packages!! plus digital camera and 3 disposables all full!), really enjoyed stingray excursion, cried watching a stranger getting married at the beach, LOVED my verandah and my room (so glad I changed), DH drank his way thru the cruise (was ready to be working again on day 4!), Sunray Transporation was fantastic, and all in all, I am feeling very blessed tonight.
THanks for letting me share all this with you and thanks for being part of our Magical Vacation.
