November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Sorry to hear about the glitch in your schedules PlutosPup.

Our School District in NJ is now thinking of having school on Election Day - which would mean our DD will miss 3 days instead of 2 days.

I did contact the superintendent to object to the change.

I love my "Jersey Week" and would hate to have it shortened or taken away. I don't want to only have the option of traveling to see the Mouse on Spring Break (mobbed and too expensive) and the Summer (Yuk, too hot). Heck, those times of year are for tourists.:rotfl2:

I'm not going to worry about it - maybe she can get extra credit in Spanish for traveling to Cozumel!!!:lmao:

Yea, let's get them all doing the extra credit together in Mexico-they can all use their Spanish to say "No mas! I don't want to buy it!!":rotfl:

We have never gotten off for Election Day, it has always been just the 2 days at the end of the week. For us, there is not much else of a choice for this, either- DH is a CPA with his own practice, so tax season cancels out any spring or winter break, and in the spring and summer we have baseball until the end of July....I don't want to go to WDW in August, either!!!! Or be on a cruise to somewhere hotter:scared: ! (Although I do like the look of the Royal Caribbean cruise that goes out of Bayonne to Bermuda....but it's not DCL!!!). So, we always head to Disney in November- sometimes they are given homework, and sometimes they are not....it may be different this time though because DS11 will be in 6th grade, so we'll have to hope for the best.

maybe she can get extra credit in Spanish for traveling to Cozumel!!!:lmao:

Too funny! On our last cruise to Cozumel 4 yrs ago DD was learning Spanish in Kindergarten. She looked forward to buying a sombrero. The first place we looked she picked one out and proceeded to say something in Spanish to the lady. The lady was quite impressed! However, did we get a bargain on the hat - oh, no! It was the most expensive sombrero of that type we saw all day!

I talked to the school administrator today(It's his first year on the job). He said that he didn't realize the teacher conferences were held a different week, and he apologized. He was truly sorry, but said the schedule would not be changed. Arrangements will be made however, to make sure DD gets all of her assignments, and the teachers will work with her on what she misses. I thought that was nice for the school to make such an effort instead of putting all of the work on the parents. I guess that's why we choose this school. Although I'm still not happy about the conference schedule change, at this point we will just have to deal with it, and move on.

...and moving on we shall! After watching countless political commercials in Pennsylvania the past few weeks DD & I are thrilled that we will miss even more political ads in late Oct/early Nov because we'll be sailing the Magic!

We were in Williamsburg, VA for 5 days last year.

I came home to 28+ political calls on my answering machine. There could have more, but I stopped counting them & deleted ALL my messages.

I didn't make it to the fabric store this past weekend. It looks like it may be May before I head to a fabric store.

I AM going to head to the Outlet Mall to get some new shorts/skorts & shirts for the cruise. I really need them and I am THE last person to shop for me. My kids dress better than I do. :rotfl:

Well my fellow DIS'rs, I am saying a temporary goodbye off the boards for hopefully not longer than a few weeks. I am headed in on Thurs. for knee replacement and if you can believe the nerve of the hospital, I can't take my laptop:confused3 .

Welcome to all the newbies to come as I am getting ready to party like " H E, double hockey sticks" when I get back on my feet. Look out MAGIC !! I will be a new woman when it's over! To think I am doing all this so I can go on this cruise, wow gotta be a major fan of Disney right?

Thanks for all the well wishes and email me updates, so at least my son can fill me in as to what's going on.

How dare they deprive you of your DIS friends, lol! I hope the surgery and recovery go VERY smoothly and you're back on your feet soon. Take care!!

LBIgirl...Thoughts and prayers for you! Remember, rehab is the most important part of your process. By November, you don't want to lose to me in a race to get a Konk Kooler! ...and whats the deal with laptops/internet and your hospital? Our hospital installed a wireless system for their patients! In the meantime, we'll be thinking of you. Here's to successful surgery, and a quick recovery!

keep those kiddos coming back to keep up w/ all the FE's, formal night ???, CC excursions, what to do on Key West and what webkinz our kids have right now.

Welcome Aboard MindyRobyn and Family.

Lbigirl67,
Best wishes and a speedy recovery from your surgery, our prayers are
with you.

I just finished making my first fish extender. Made it from the Pirates
of the Carribean Material. It took longer than I expected, but this was
my first and wasn't real sure what I was doing. Not sure how to post
a picture of it either.

but a memorial service has come up this weekend.

I am hoping for next weekend.

Judy

PS I would love to see pix of any FE's anyone has completed. The more ideas the better.

Hi LBIGirl67! Just wanted to say I hope your recovery is going well and you're hanging in there! Take care-

Hi WUV TIGGER,
I finished mine Fish Extender this past weekend, just went from the pictures posted. I put a picture of mine under our cruise yahoo group if you are interested in see it. (Under the pictures posted). Be sure to pick up some of the iron on interfacing at the cutting counter at JoAnn's, as the fabric doesn't always have enough body too it, I just used regular Pirates of the Carribean fabric and used the iron on interfacing to give it more body. Since my sewing machine only does the straight stitch, it used the iron on letters, and also picked up a iron on patch. Good luck with yours, any questions feel free to ask, as I just winged it....this was my first one ever made.
Janet

Thanks Janet for the tips.:cool1:

I am part of the Yahoo group. I head over there next.

I would love to see you pix.

In keeping with our "Election Day Castaway" theme, along with my response to the bazillion political commercials, letters, telephone calls we Pennsylvanians have have endured I have added a new "bumper sticker" to my signature...

Well I am getting the Disney itch and decided to go for it yesterday and book a weekend getaway in May with my girlfriend. The hubbies are staying home to take care of the kids and pets!:scared1: I can't wait!! We will be going the Friday after Mother's Day to Sunday. It will be very quick but its better than not going at all!!:cool1:

LBIGirl67 - wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope your bionic knee will be in top form for the trip.

Love the license plate Pluto - Now that is a ticket we can all get behind. I'm going to see how long I can tolerate watching the debate tonight.

Not going to worry about school schedules, work issues or anything that might encroach on the cruise. We've got tickets and will deal with reality when we get back.:beach:

Reminder to all of our new Election Day Castaways. :teacher: You will be in/at/on Grand Cayman on Election Day. Contact your Board of Elections to make arrangements for an absentee ballot so you can vote, vote, vote before the cruise.

I'd like three (3) bracelets for our crew if you are figuring how many to order. Can I put them on my KTTW card???:lmao: I would think you would get a good response to such a novel and inexpensive idea. At least we will be able to spot each other on board. Hoping you put something on them to tie them to our Magical Election Day Castaway's 11/1 - 11/8/08. My bet is that you won't hear from too many people before but you will be beseiged onboard with people who want them. Presale prices are lower - if you buy them at the door they cost more. :rotfl:

Alas, due to luggage restrictions (gasp - I might even not be able to bring my pirate costume -:sad2: to make room for formal attire) I am really trying to pack light so I am not planning on doing Door Decorations and Fish Extenders (and the trinkets they would entail) but hope the rest of you enjoy this very fun part of the cruise adventure though.

Good girl!!! I did the EXACT same thing- I was going to go the same week as you are, but am a June use year, so since I had used my points on...hmmm...what was that again? Oh yea- our CRUISE:woohoo: !!! So anyway, I'm going to SSR for 3 nights on June 1st with my dear friend, Loni, the same one going to MNSSHP with us on Halloween. Yesterday I booked a Segway tour around Epcot- I am ready to EXPLODE with excitement!!! Please make sure to fill us in on all your details of your girls' trip... And your DH will be fine with the kids!!! If mine can do it, so can yours!!! It's good for them!!;) And us!!

podsnel--have fun on your segway tour. DH and I did it last year and loved it!

I'll probably order the wristbands around the end of the summer. Before I order them, I'll post a poll to decide what we should have printed on them.

That's too funny that is the other weekend I was looking into but my daughter has her dance recital that weekend so it just was not possible. We could only do 2 nights because I also used my points for our stay at Disney three nights before the cruise. I ended up having to book a 1 bedroom vs a studio (which I preferred) at the Wilderness Lodge Villas because that's all they had available which ended up being more points then I wanted to use. BUT my kids love it there and I do too and its so close the Magic Kingdom where we will be going to MNSSHP on Halloween.
I am so excited about my girl's trip but you never know what I will come home to when the Husband is left alone with the kids! I'm sure candy and popcorn will be their dinner but what I don't know won't hurt me!popcorn::

So exciting about the wristbands - what a great idea!

And we'll be staying at the Swan and going to MNSSHP too on Halloween - I bet it's pretty crazy on that night.:dance3:
