November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Wow, thanks everyone. I think all the well wishes worked. I am home, extremely medicated :hippie: and slowly getting back to normal. The surgery started out as a partial replacement and went to a complete. Apparrently I was walking around for past year with broken knee and didn't know it :confused3 . Must have been pixie dust I was on to miss that one. I have a zipper on my knee :rotfl2: ( per the DS's).

Either way, I have a lot of time to sit and think of ideas for trip, so I will forward them to everyone when the pain killers wear off, some could be not so good depending on how soon I took them when the idea showed up.

Thank you again everyone and I will be up and motoring soon !

LBIGirl67, great news, keep up the good work, as the rehab is the most
critical part of this kind of surgery. My sister-in-law had both knees done
and it is hard to keep up with her now. She went to rehab three times a
week for a couple of months, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
So hang in there, each day will be a little better.

Just want to let you know that I booked my airplane flight today, as I
was waiting for SW to come out with their fares for the end of October.
While waiting for SW I was checking AirTRan, couldn't beleive the price that
I found, so I booked AirTran. From PHL to MCO ($55.00) nonstop, this
is a late afternoon flight, as we are going down ahead of time to visit with
family in Orlando. I am aware of the new ruling of only one checked bag per
passenger, but will deal with that for this price. Extra drinks on the Magic.
Janet

LBIGirl...glad to hear everything went well! As Muffin07 mentioned rehab is the most important part. When you need encouragement we're here for you!

Muffin07...Wow! You found a great airfare! You're going to be able to buy LOTS of extra drinks!:drinking1 :drinking1

LBIGirl67 hope you get well soon!

I was on the yahoo board and of course, on this thread, for this trip. Wanted to let y'all know that we had to move our cruise to February, so I won't get to meet you.

And yes, I know that y'all are thinking "who is this person?" We had a lot going on in the last 6 months, I haven't posted much.

Have a great cruise! :thumbsup2

Fabumouse, you go back to the beginning of this thread! Sorry to hear that you won't be going with us. Hope you have a great time on your February cruise, though! Thanks for stopping by our thread. Best wishes!

so I can start my FE.

Lots of ??? Here's hoping y'all have lots of answers.

What kind of fusable webbing did you buy/use?

When I was sewing YEARS ago, they were listed by a color & a weight. Do they still do that?

Where did everyone buy their fabrics?

I will try at Joann's or Hancock Fabrics.

Judy

HI wuv tigger,
As far as the fabric I used was from Joanns fabric store, and the
interfacing I used I bought at Joann's too. The interfacing is Pellon
Fusible interfacing Product, ask for it at the cutting counter, as they
sell it by the yard (they keep it on the self at the cutting counter.) It comes in different weights, I used the medium weight, and you just iron it on the back of your fabric. Hope this helps.
Janet

Thanks Plutospup!

I'm wishing you all smooth seas and sunny days. :thumbsup2

I don't have an embroidery sewing machine.

I will be looking for Disney patches for the FE.

I am looking forward to sewing again. It has been YEARS :lmao: hat I have had the sewing machine out.

I just told my extended family that we will be going on a cruise in the fall.

I went shopping and got some slacks & polo shirts to wear for dinner. I need to find some more skorts. I found some great deals at Liz Claiborne Outlet.

Judy

PS: I posted under dh's sign in :rotfl2:

Fabumose, sorry you won’t be joining us on our cruise, hope you have a great time, as plans do change, and you have go to with the flow.

wuv tigger
Hi Judy,
I was in the same boat, don’t do a lot of sewing any more, my sewing machine only sews the straight stitch, no fancy embroidery stitches. So I used an iron on embroidery patch, Joanns fabrics has several of the Disney Characters in the iron patches, also used iron on letters, not like this is going to go thru the wash every day, just hang there. This was my first one, but I tried to make it as simple as possible.
Shopping, I really have to get looking around for some nice tops and pants, shorts, etc. Walked thru Boscov’s the other day, they had some nice tops, but didn’t have time to shop. The problem I have is that I need a larger size, not the misses size, some one told me that Fashion Bug and Marshalls have the women sizes. Going to check them out also.
Happy Sewing, if you have any other questions, just ask.
Janet

LBIGirl67 - you're one tough cookie, walking around with a broken knee for a year! OUCH!!! I hope your recovery is swift and you're back on your feet in no time!

OK, I have a confession... I can sew... love to do it actually. But when we moved to NC a year ago, my sewing machine (nothing fancy) ended up in the garage. I haven't gotten it out yet, but really wanted to make a FE. So I cheated, and made a no sew FE using fusible interface and web and iron on patches and letters, lol. My iron sure got a workout! Here are the results (I haven't put the dowel in yet):

Hi Jenn
Great job, I love your fish extender, your iron really works well, I like
your material that you picked out, no sew, what a way to go.
Janet

Wow, Jenn, your FE looks great! Everyone is so creative! I still haven't done mine...I have a feeling I will be visiting Ebay in the coming months....

LBIGirl- A BROKEN knee??!!!! You must have been in so much pain!! :scared1: Glad you are feeling better!

get the ole sewing machine out after all.

Here's hoping I can get to the fabric store BEFORE school lets out in the middle of June.
:lmao:

You know it's funny.... I walked around for a year with it cracking/popping etc. Sounded like Rice Krispies. It would hurt going up/down stairs or the beach, but for most part it was o.k. Now I wonder if I am crazy and don't realize what pain is.
Anyway, all 48 staples come out Tues. for I can't stand the pinching anymore and if I could do it myself WOULD. Rehab is going very well. I am actually motoring a tad without assistance. I use crutches outside for uneven surfaces are a disaster. Getting out of my dad's truck has been hysterical for it's jacked up very high ( Dodge Ram ).
Thank god for this cruise for it's my motivation to do the exercises. I can't imagine not being able to run around on the beach with my kids again.
I just checked with Disney and MNSSHP tix go on sale in " May ". All the info they would give out at this point. Southwest decided to post flights up till 10/30....great I get down but not back....AAGGHHH. MORE WAITING...I am from JERSEY PEOPLE, WE DON'T LIKE TO WAIT FOR ANYTHING !!!!!
Anyway, when I am driving again I plan to do the fish extender thing, my mom is an unbelievable seamstress so I plan on using her to help. If it's for her grandsons she'll do anything, so I'm playing that card ;) .
Back to the sofa and the ice packs.....take care gang.

Now I wonder if I am crazy...

Crazy... in a good kind of way, I'm sure!

Glad to hear rehab is going well. Continue to be careful around uneven surfaces for now. ( In time that will come along, too!) Just remember, every step you take...you are one step closer to walking the beach at Castaway Cay! Keep up the good work!

BTW...have you considered a fireman's pole to slide down from the cab of the Dodge Ram? Oh my, they are high off the ground!

BTW...have you considered a fireman's pole to slide down from the cab of the Dodge Ram? Oh my, they are high off the ground!

I laugh you ask that....dad used to be Chief of the local fire company. You'd think that he would have been considerate enough to think of that on his own, especially for his only daughter :rotfl: He's so squimish about the whole thing that he's taking me to get staples out but said he wasn't coming in.... I started the whole " but I need my daddy...to hold my hand...wah wah" thing....I got and I quote " YOU'RE 40, GROW THE HELL UP AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN" Guess I'm going in on my own :scared1:

Finally booked our flights! We're flying down on Delta and land around 11am on Friday. The only thing that's a drag is that we're going to go out of JFK instead of Newark- those fares just would NOT come down! Continental is up to $700, and Jetblue is over $500!:scared1: So we lucked out with $214 on Delta nonstop- we'll just have to deal with a little longer of a drive from/to home.
Also found out the boys will be off for election Day- I didn't remember they gave them off for a Presidential Election. So they'll only be missing 3 days of school- VERY happy about that, and that they will most likely have very little, if any, homework (although DS11 will be in 6th grade, so we're expecting him to get some).
