November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Hi! We have a DS9 (as of April) who will be with us!!! I just told him there will be another 9 year old boy and he's glad to hear it!!

Wow! The transatlantic must have been incredible- did all 3 of you go? I was just thinking about it the other day, when I was reading my passporter- that's aLOT of sea days! Are they as much fun when you have so many? I kind of wish we had more than 1 on our cruise, because I know they will have a ton of fun activities. Were there any that were done especially for the transatlantic?

ROBSMOM Wecome!
How far down south Jersey? We are looking everyday for flights when available from AC Airport.

Welcome aboard Robsmom and family, I am new also to this site and sailing
on the Nov. 1 2008 cruise. Hoping to learn some of the tips from our
experience cruisers. This will be our first DLC cruise, since with have not
cruise in about 20 years or so. We also live in Jersey and will travel down to Orlando a couple days before the cruise, hoping to book out of Philadelphia, hear that Southwest has some really good prices, but you are limited to booking only about 6 months ahead of time. The last time I was on their site, they had up until May 9 open up.

Thank you all for the welcome.

Podsnel - Glad to hear that there is another 9 year old in the group. Maybe we can connect them via some posts on the thread. The transatlantic crossing was really wonderful. I honestly thought i might get bored with the days at sea but to be honest we never did. We were Westbound in august with the good weather so we spend a lot of time at the pool. We went to all the presentations and movies, etc.

muffin07 and bfosbenner - We are in Gloucester County so looking to fly out of Phila. We have had good luck with Southwest in the past but this is a tough week to get good rates on due to the mass exodus from NJ. I tried a few years ago and low rates were gone within hours of being released. Right now i found about 250 on usair and am leaning towards booking that. dcl has been down all days so dreams unlimited has not actually confirmed my reservation. Once i have that i will probably book.

I think our party may be some of the few people on this cruise NOT from New Jersy! (at least our state of NEW Hamphsire starts the same ;) )
We just got back from our trip to WDW and we had a BLAST! The weather was great, and the crowds were fairly light.
Now I can focus on our cruise!
Every time we saw a cruise line bus drive by while in Florida we were wishing it was picking us up!

Welcome Athene and family, glad to have you aboard.

Also wanted to wish all the DIS'ers "Happy Holidays, and be sure
to have a safe holiday too.

Only 10 months from today we'll be on...The Disney Magic!

It's been almost 4 yrs since our last cruise, and finally I can say we'll be cruising THIS YEAR! Yeah, I guess you can say I'm excited:rotfl:

We sail in 303 days!!
(I can't stand it!!)
It is really exciting that our cruise is finally THIS year!
DH and I will be going about 6 weeks earlier than our past few trips, so it will probably sneak right up on us!

Been neglecting my cruise socializing due to the holidays.

I think I am going to contact DCL and cancel my air through them and book it myself because I want to fly down the night before this trip. (It was too exhausting both mentally and physically for us to fly down same day like we did in Nov 07).

We went USAir last trip and I'll probably just go with them again for Nov 08 -

Santa brought me a new Pirate night light for the cabin for the next cruise!!! And a lime green (dis board color) camera bag. Now you'll be able to spot me onboard to say hello!

What's the group mindset about Pirate Night? Should I break out my pirate costume for Nov 08??

So, we have a DD who will be 14 on the cruise in Nov 08 - any other 14 year olds sailing?

DD11...aka Elizabeth Swan...will be dressed for pirate night! The week before Christmas her school had special "spirit days". One day was dress as your favorite Disney character. I'm sure they were expecting Tigger, Pooh, Mickey, or Minnie. Oh no, not our DD...Pirate Elizabeth Swan made her appearance!

Nobody...Yes!!! You should break out your pirate costume!
...BTW if you're flying through PHL Friday PM on USAir we might
see you!

DH LOVES pirate night!
We have a friend who can sew, so she made him a costume before our 2004 cruise. Before our 2006 cruises she added a captains jacket to the costume.
NOW he wants boots. (I told him to forget it...;) )

Feenie- your husband ROCKS!!!!! What an EXCELLENT costume! I actually gave my husband a Capt Jack Sparrow costume for Christmas- he opened it and said no way, but at least he tried on the wig for me! AARGH!!! pirate: I really thought he'd go for it, too! :sad2: Oh well.... we're going to St John in a couple of weeks, so I'll pick up a pirate tshirt for him there, I guess. I would like to dress up, and I think at least one of my boys will with me. I had tried the Elizabeth Swan costume, but I felt un-pirate-ish in it, so it's going back with Capt Jack.
What about formal night? What do you all wear for that?

Hey- I just noticed- my clock is stuck!

Feenie your DH's costume is wonderful. pirate: Get him some boots for his birthday!!!

I want to encourage lots of ADULTS to dress up and have fun on pirate night too - it's not just for the kids. We all need to get in touch with our inner pirate.

Pluto's Pup: Did you pick your flight yet? I'm still looking at the flight schedules - I forgot DD will have school Friday so I'll have to take that into account for our flight on Friday night. Are you staying overnight at the airport or are you going to head out to port??

Nobody...DD will do a half day of school. From there it's off to the airport. We're scheduled to arrive at MCO at about 6:20pm. Following that we're planning on driving to the Cape Canaveral Residence Inn.

Feenie...the costume is GREAT! ...but I think he NEEDS the boots!:rotfl: Arrrgh!pirate:

Pluto - DH and I will take off from work on Friday but I am planning to wait till DD is done school on Friday before we all head out to the airport. I don't want her to miss too much school. (She'll only have to miss 2 days for the week of the trip because of Election Day and the Teacher's Convention). I'm looking at the 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. flights - which will get in to MCO between 9 and 10 pm We'll probably stay at the MCO Hyatt and then do the DCL ground transport first thing Sat a.m. I get excited just thinking about it!!! Can't believe we are going back.

I've got to call DCL and find the particulars of cancelling my air through them before I book my flight. That's on my "to do" list this week.

I can't see the sense of letting them do my airfare when I can book myself and then control the times of my flights. I am certainly not going to pay them for the deviation, that's for sure.

Had DCL book my air the first time - we flew in the same day on our maiden voyage and we were simply exhausted that whole first day. Live and learn.

After I get all that settled, then it is on to pondering excursions.

I hope you'll plan a get together on board. We had a quick hello on the secret deck on our last trip with those from the boards and that was a real nice way to start out the trip. Then, whenever we saw someone we "knew" we'd waive and say hi as we bumped into each other on board throughout the trip. It was a great ice breaker!

REMINDER TO ALL: As we are sailing over Election Day, be sure to put making arrangements for your absentee ballot on your list of things to do.
Vote, Vote Vote!!!!

Sounds Great,
The Turkey Day Gang (I was one of those cruisers) Meets on Deck 10 during the sail away party. How does that sound? You can see everything going on!:cool1:

Oh that pirate costume is great!!

I hadn't realized we would be gone over Election Day! OK... one more thing on the to do list, lol.

Thank you all for the welcome.

Robsmom-

I would love to connect our kids via some posts! I'm sure DS9 would love it!!! I'll get him to do that in the next couple of days- today he's got too much going on, Tuesday is NUTS for him!

bfosbeener - So do we need to come up with a catchy name for our group?
Don't know how we'll top "Turkey Day Gang"

So far all the posts listing kid's ages have been younger - we have a DD 14 cruising with us.
