November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

bfosbeener - So do we need to come up with a catchy name for our group?
Don't know how we'll top "Turkey Day Gang"

So far all the posts listing kid's ages have been younger - we have a DD 14 cruising with us.

Well, we can be the "Running away from all the phone calls from Politicians" Cruisers! Or maybe that is a little long ;) (we got 6 calls last night... Our Primary is today, if I didn't know who I was going to vote for last night, I'm probably not going to be swayed by a recording :lmao: )

Hello fellow cruisers

It has been quite a while since I last visited. Hope everyone had a great holiday. Looks like several of us will have 9 yr olds on this cruise. I would like for my son to take part in any pre-cruise gathering. He is "sorta shy".

I would like to submit my idea for a cruise slogan: "The Election Day Castaway's" No political mailings, no irritating phone messages and no unexepected visits from campaign volunteers.:cool1:

Have a great week.

Great name suggestion Medic2707.

So what do you think Plutospup? Are you going to rename the thread???

I make sure to get my vote in by way of absentee ballot since we usually vacation that week. Those pesky callers and policital visitors are always perplexed when I tell them I already voted!!!

It is easy to vote by absentee ballot - just call (in my case I have to call the County Clerk) and they mail an absentee ballot out to you with instructions. One more thing on our to do lists!!!

I'm still pondering the pluses and minuses of air deviation fees vs. booking my own airfare. I think I'll just flip a coin to decide what to do. If I pay $50 pp for deviation, I am not sure if I'll get hit with additional charges for differences in ticket costs (or if the deviation is just moving the day I fly vs picking the date and time I want to fly) - but if I cancel the airfare through DCL and book it myself, then my air is outside of the vacation insurance. Sigh!

Hopefully, your phone has now stopped ringing!!! What a circus. Sounds like everyone called you if you got 6 calls.

I like Medic's nickname suggestion:

Election Day Castaways!

Will we have to vote for the name??:lmao:

Hey Plutospup

The next time you modify the list on your first post, our party is:

Me
DH and
DD14

Thanks - Debbie

Election Day Castaways...Hmmm...do we get to vote someone off the ship, or make a politician walk the plank? Maybe elect a DISer president of the ship and turn our 7 night cruise into 14 nights!

When I told DD10 that we wouldn't be around for the general election in November because of our cruise, she cheered "Yippee, fewer political commercials for us!" A wise 10 yr old.

As mentioned, remember to register for your absentee ballots! As New Hampshire proved last night, every vote does count!

Feenie...I can't imagine the circus you have been through! For us political junkies it has provided great entertainment though!:lmao:

Nobodycares...I updated your listing on page 1. If I missed anyone, or you need updated please bring it to my attention. (slap me upside the head to get my attention if necessary:rolleyes: )

Update on airline checkin at the port:
1. US Airways has been added to the list of participating airlines for onboard check-in.

2. For those who have cruised Disney in the past, the airline check-in desks outside the terminal near the DCL buses have been removed. Now, if you purchase airfare through Disney, or ground transfers you are eligible for airline checkin on board the ship. Your bags will be picked up Friday evening in the hallway, and you will not see them again.................until you get to your home airport (Sorry, I had to add "not see them again...." since my luggage was lost Sunday night:scared1: ) Also, you are still eligible for this program if you only purchase one way transfers from port to MCO.

This has been quite the busy thread lately! Unfortunately, I haven't been getting emails, and work has been getting in the way. Best of all only 9+ months, and the "Election Day Castaways" will be sailin'pirate:

Oh I love the name!! Now we need a logo... something to go on our door magnets, t-shirts, etc. I created the logo for our last cruise... but I'm drawing a blank with what to do for our new name. May need to think on this one a bit... anyone have any ideas?

A donkey and an elephant head in mousketeer ears? Or isn't there a Mickey fife and drum logo I've seen?

Too bad they (the candidates) aren't really wearing them- I'd probably like them much better that way!!

I love it!!

Thankfully the political calls have stopped! (for the moment;) ) I probably would not mind so much if they were "real" people and not recordings.

We are flying to WDW the Wednesday before the cruise and staying at the POFQ.

I love the new name for our group!! I hope everyone had a great Holiday and New Year! My kids have now started asking when we are leaving for the Disney Cruise since we have gone in Feb for the last two years. I think it's going to be a long wait until Nov. but well worth it!:)

It IS going to be along wait, but so worth it!!!

Jblb1020, I always want to tell you how i am so envious that you live right over the bridge from one of my favorite places- LBI. You lucky girl! We have spent MANY summers there, and many family vacations. What a beautiful island!

I love living near the ocean but our problem is that traffic is so backed up Rt. 72 that we can't get out in the summertime. There is only one way in and one way out. What takes me 10 minutes normally to get over the bridge from our house can take up to an hour or more in the summer. We usually head over to LBI in the evening hours and take the kids to Fantasy Island or the Surf Light Theater in Beach Haven or grab something to eat over there. It's a great family place but at the same time nice and quiet. When where you last here??

We haven't been since last June- and I don't know if we're doing it this year, which of course breaks my heart. We've been staying on 4th St in Beach Haven for the past few years, 1 off the ocean. It's a fantastic location, walk to everything. Both our younger sons play travel baseball, and my husband spent alot of time going back and forth with them on the parkway to games last year- they even missed some!

So this year we'll have to figure something else out. We have stayed all over the island, though- in college, I lived on LBI in the summers and worked at every job imaginable just to stay there!!! It was all so much fun (except being a chambermaid at the Sea Shell- that lasted 1 day- when I found out what the hours were, I quit- no beach time!!):rotfl:

Beach Haven is the happening place in the summer!! My husband and I rented our first condo on LBI during the winter in 1994. I was a lifeguard at a condominium next to the Colony 4 and Dom's Drive Inn and rented through one of the owners there. It was so nice!!

One of my jobs- for 2 summers, actually, was cashier at the Colony 4!!!! I LOVED that job- I only worked afternoons if it rained and I had a GREAT tan those summers (no $$$, but a great tan nonetheless!!!):beach: But it was in '83 and 84....Yikes! I'm OLD!!!!!:scared:

In the summer of '93, we were renting a house across the blvd (from where you lived), 2 houses in on the bay next to the bagel/sub place- Subs Up, I think? Then we had our 1st, Sean, June '94- it looks like we've just missed each other and our pasts are catching up on the Disney Cruise!:rotfl2:

Great job Plutospup - I laughed when I checked my email and saw that you had remained the thread.

No donkeys or elephants - just Red, White and Blue Mickey's.

Back in 1976 (yes, I've been hooked on Disney since the 1971 opening) they had a wonderful Spirit of 76 parade which was all Red, White and Blue with Mickey, Donald and Goofy (if I recall correctly) logo in full fife and drum corp outfits. That would be good artwork Podsnel. It was a very patriotic theme and the parade that year was just beautiful. I often wonder if they have all that stuff in storage in a warehouse somewhere. We could petition Nicholas Cage to uncover it in the blockbuster "Disney Treasure".:lmao:

That looks like it Bill - Looks like the imagineers recycled the 1776 stuff from 1976 for 4th of July 2000.

I can't recall what the 1776 parade was called - I think "spirit" was involved somewhere. I'll have to google it to see if what it actually was in anyway resembles my recollection.

Guess the Election Day Castaways could recycle it again.:woohoo:
