November '08 ~ What Do You Mean It's Over? Should we plan another???

only 40 days for me from October 16!!!! WOO-HOO!:woohoo:

Any ideas on how to prepare DH- who isn't really that keen on Disney? Anyway to get him excited??

I really have no great advice but I do have a little story. Back in November of 05 my best friend and I planned a trip to WDW together with our families. The entire time we were planning her husband was a total pain. Every week we planned he had some reason why we could not go. It is was either hunting season, racing season or some other kind of manly season. :rotfl2: We ended up going the week of Thanksgiving (which I did not want due to crowds). Anyway the first day we get there (after staying one night in Daytona so he could see the track) and we go straight to MK. It was busier than I had ever seen it and I thought he was going to come unglued. :scared1: I could tell he was just not into and we were in for a long week. However, the next day we went to Epcot and he fell in love. I literally watch him go from Grumpy to Happy overnight. He enjoyed every park except MK.

We are leaving in 27 days for our next trip and guess who's idea it was. His!!

Funny thing is the othernight we were all sitting around planning and he said he did not want to go back to MK and in the very next sentence he said he wanted to ride Splash, POC, and SM. I just gave him that look. :rolleyes1

You know you are getting close when your kids stop thinking it's forever away.

I had to laugh when I read that, because that is exactly how my older kids are too. They feel like it has been forever since the last time we went to Disney which was really last June. Then once we planned this trip, it seemed like it was forever away. Now they are getting really excited.

Only 24 days!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I would love to hear some ideas, too. My DH HATES crowds, and is not looking forward to Disney at all, even though he's never been there. I need to get him motivated!

My DH is not into Disney either. He isn't the least bit excited about the trip either, and I hear hm complaining to a few people every now and then. I simply told him next time I will either take a solo trip or it will just be me and the kids. Of course that would give him a break not having t deal with anything kid related, but thats okay.

Maybe try hitting MK during the slower times. I have read on here that the Morning EMH hours at MK are good (this is our plan). I think Fantasyland at MK can just get a little overwhelming because there are so many little ones and strollers.

We are also going to go to the parks that are NOT having EMH that day because of the increase in crowds at the evening EMH parks. On all of our previous Nov-Dec trips we really had no problems with crowds other than that one day at MK.

Your situations are unfortunate, and I suppose there is not much you can say or do to change what appeals to your husbands. But I suspect the kid in them lies somewhere dormant inside them all - and the only thing capable of bringing it out is WDW itself. My suggestion is to refrain from ANY efforts to sell them on the trip. Simply thank them for "enduring" the vacation for the benefit of you and your kids - this will minimize their resistance to enjoyment once there (because there will be no need to prove you wrong), and they may actually enjoy certain elements - and they may even admit it! There's something about the attitudes of castmembers and the sheer happiness of everything (aka the "magic") that even the purest Scrooge can't deny. I did this with my dad (grandpa), and it worked like a charm. He kept saying, "Wow, I really enjoyed that."

All the above being said, if they like their drinks, suggest "drinks around the world" at Epcot. Also, give them some time at the hotel bar / pool bar. If they like their sports, visit the ESPN club while there. If you are going during crowded season and they hate crowds, go to the parks early and perhaps leave early. Let em play a round of golf or two or three (Disney has some great golf course, including some where the PGA plays). Let em rent a boat. Go see Cirque du Soleil - even the deepest cynic will be in awe. Get a sitter and go out for the night (e.g., House of Blues is not too Disney).

And one ride recommendation - at the right moment, when he seems about to buckle, take him on Mickey's Philharmagic.

I was just reading a thread about a family who just got back from Disney and they had different experiences with their child being measured to go on rides. They said that the child made it onto some rides, and then the child was told no at other rides.

So....this reminded me that I needed to measure the twins. One of them is 40.5 inches and the other one is right at 40 inches. So I have been practicing with them on standing up straight and being still when they have to get measured under the stick before rides. I don't think they are ready for any big rides like BTMRR or Splash Mt. or Space Mt, so it's not that big of a deal, but I do think they would like Kali River Rapids and Soarin.

my ticker says one week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's 7 days!

168 hours!

Oh wow.:scared1:

I can't believe it's been almost a year!:woohoo:

Yea, those measuring sticks are never the same either. Thankfully my 7 year old is almost 53 inches so I have nothing to worry about. My 13 year old DS is now 5'2" and my DD is 58 inches...I'm only 5'1" so before long she will be taller than me too :)

This is ridiculous. I rush home from work everyday just so I can check my ticker. It's not like I don't know how many days are left. I mean, really.. I have a calendar at work. How can one trip to Disney turn a grown woman into kid again. Honestly! :rotfl2:

Then they will make it on Kali for sure the height there is only 38. I was surprised to find out my son could have been going on it already. He went for the first time in June and loved it!

:)

Here is the link at all ears.

Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids
Must be at least 38 inches (97 cm) tall to ride. For safety and comfort, you should be in good health and free from heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Holy cow! I never really paid attention to height requirements...just went by age and what I felt they could handle. My grandson who is 22 MONTHS old is 38 inches tall already! LOL So, technically he could go on Kali before he's even 2 years old. LMAO He's a giant!!

I would love to hear crowd reports for some of you coming back in November. I read some threads of recent large crowds probably because of Columbus day.

We have not been in November before and was hoping for low crowds then came free dining.. oh well hopefully it won't be to bad. At least we will be in WDW!

:)
