That has me laughing: "the golden first born". I did the same thing, and my MIL did not know what to do with us. It was really uncomfortable for a long time, but the truth is that she really is a wonderful woman, just has a totally different communication style from mine, and also forgot that we were actually grown up. Of course, now that I have kids, I'll know I'll struggle with that concept too at some point!. But I'm always telling my husband that his brother's wives owe me a huge debt of gratitude. She's chilled out a ton since they came along, and she used me to figure out the whole DIL thing, and they don't even know to be grateful! But hey, it's gotten better for me too, so I'm not complaining (too much!). :flower:

I'm the only DIL. The only thing that put me 1 step above least-liked in-law is the BIL got SIL2 pg at 17. I moved up there. If BIL ever marries, they'll be so happy that he did and is not a loner that she'll move right ot the top, I'm sure. :confused3

Could be worse. AT least she has not told my dh he was stupid for marrying me since we announced our engagemnt.

Offta! You ladies have some seriously protective Mama's to contend with! At least mine really likes me.

I often think about this raising children. I had great role models (my mother and step dad were fantastic parents - they married when I had just turned 4) and I hope I can let my children live in peace and just enjoy them when we are older. If not - NO POINTS FOR THEM :p :earboy2:

OK, enough in-law chat. I'm getting depressed. (Yes, I'm the dummy that brought it up).

Who's got a funny story for me?

Two mothers-in-law walk into a bar - oops, wrong thread...

Ok - I have a good story for you.

Getting ready to go this morning. Boys and hubby are walking out the door headed off...I am still getting ready - so dressed, but still have to do makeup/hair etc. I kiss them all goodbye and head back to my bedroom to finish up. The door to the room is closed, but I hear a really weird sound. I push open the door thinking something must be caught in the ceiling fan or something strange (only possible explanation I can come up with). Head on in the room, looking around. Fans are all ok. hmmm Check the bathroom and the hose that connects to the toilet had broken off and was shooting water EVERYWHERE!!!

I screamed for hubby and he came running (poor guy probably though I was in labor). He was dressed for an interview this morning and was about to run in there to shut off the water, but I tossed my dress off and went in and saved the day in my panties and bra LOL Water has soaked everything in the bathroom (just a small 1/2 bath) including the ceiling, there is 1/2 inch of water standing in the room, etc. I sent hubby on his way, spent 1/2 hour cleaning up the water best I could and left the laundry for him. (15 minutes later and I would not have been there! :earseek: I can only imagine what it would have done to my whole house!! so lucky!)

You know whats funny? I had been wanting to wipe down the walls in that bathroom. I figured it had been a while since I had done much real cleaning in there beyond the toilet, sink and floor. Guess sometimes you DO have to be careful what you wish for. :teeth: :smooth:

TW1 - :rotfl:

Laura - :rotfl: Yes, I was going to wash the rugs in my 1/2 bath/laundry room before ocmpany came but ran out of time. Washer was stll going when they arrived. We have septic/venting issues. Forgot to warn them no to flush with washing maching going. Well, teh rugs got washed... Glad they had not been done already. No member of that family will ever fulsh while the washer is pumping out again!

tada!!! My story of the week! lol

I am still semi-giggling about it now! Of course, had it flooded the whole house, I would get my hardwood faster  hmmmm NONONONO ick - what a mess that could have been!

LOL good point!!! There is always a silver lining if you can look for it! You errrr got your rugs washed and taught the family the "flushing plan" all in one swoop! lol I got my walls and ceiling wiped down in my bathroom (was going to paint them this summer...but I will admit it - I am too pooped these days - maybe when I am on maternity leave near the end :) or maybe not lol )

I think my poor 6YO nephew may be scarred for life. :guilty:

Hmmm.... Sounds like MIL oculd paint the bathroom for you! :rotfl:

 hmmmmm *maybe plan #1 hatching even as we speak* :p I would get hubby to do it, but I think he might be pulling a briar patch on me. (he is taking a bit longer than I would like with those honey-do lists while he is not working lol but then - I am not sure its more along the lines that he is afraid of what I might add to the list next :p I am apparently Super Woman of the Flooding Bathroom and Queen Slave Driver all wrapped up in one hahahaha!)

(you do have to feel for him a little bit :earboy2: )

Ok ok - I better come clean. I would not be making it through this pregnancy without him. He is a doll and is doing so much of what I used to do around the house right now (including taking care of the boys and all school related activities, etc). :love2: Guess I better keep him.

(funny how when he cleans the house, he gets ripped when things are not put back where they belong but when I clean the house and get ripped about that, I am told I am being too picky :earboy2: Maybe I will be more appreciated in the future  )

You just dont' want him to get soft while he's out of work. It's a tough love kind of thing. ;) Way cool smilies!

WDWSTAR (note the caps) ;) - It's really just the old Where's Greenban thread. The name just changed. (To protect the innocent, of course.)

Watch out everyone! The Diet Cherry Coke and chocolate combo are starting to kick in!

Now that is a combination! But then, I am munching on those little cheddar cheese flavored pretzel pieces and having a caffine free Coke. Things might get spooooooky around here soon. :rotfl:

Question of the morning: Anyone else having issues seeing photos in siggies and smilies?

Did they cut me off after I shared teh wonderful world of smilies with T.E. Yearly?

Putting out chocloate no bakes this morning. Laura, I've got peanut better too, if you're avaoiding chocolate for the caffeine.

so we're saying it's just me? That's not good. :(
