Nothing Thread

Ha - could you all hear the screaming from here in RI last night as we finished one of the chapters toward the end of HBP and I told DS we were done for the night?! Bad enough when I stay up reading too late but didn't need him to be a bear this morning as well.

We've been doing the same as you TW1 (another thing in common besides being space enthusiasts - I believe we "talked" about a trip you'll be taking to KSC?). We've been reading HP books out loud for the last few years (had to catch up the first 2) and DS is also entering 5th grade this year.

Can't beat the family time we've enjoyed over these years all reading aloud. We started it to keep us amused on the long drives while getting to our vacation /camping destination. We picked up the first two books for the trip and thought we'd give it a try. DS would begin begging for me to read almost immediately upon starting the drive for the day. The gameboy that he had gotten for his birthday, (to also help with the trip) simply stayed in it's bag almost the entire time because he was so excited to find out what would happen next in HP.

No spoilers, don't worry, wouldn't want to ruin a minute of it for others.

Glad you liked my happy place. Been a proud HHI owner for a few years and will never regret it. Best decision we ever made. Starting to go twice a year now, spring break and late August. And with a brother moving to Charleston, I imagine it'll make one more reason to go.
Nougat!

Yeah, we totally loved it. Since you go off-season, how do you find the weather? Can you still use the beach and swim and stuff?

Seriously, I never thought about buying more points until we went there. My husband should know better than to let me see such places ;) .

Now the only problem I have with it is that it's so many points for the summer. Come on, don't they know that that's when I wanted to go!

Don't we all!!!

I am really excited about reading HP to my oldest, but we are going to have to find a way for younger son to be entertained while we do. I think its time for split readings again (used to do it when they were younger...they got to a point where they liked the same books. Now they are seperating again mentally).

MLK-RI - I find it wonderfully refreshing to hear stories about children that WANT to read and let their mind wander. We were allowed to stay up a WHOLE EXTRA 15 MINUTES!!! when I was little if we were reading, and it has really stuck with me. Hubby doesn't read and I can't make him understand what I think he is missing out on. I am trying now to instill my love for books in my sons *smile*

TW1 - sometimes nothing bonds like the geekiness :3dglasses My oldest and I both are super geeked that Star Wars III if finally at the dollar movies. I had told him we would go back and see it again when it finally made it there (I will pay for first runs once only! too frugal to go again and again to the "real movies" these days). I told him it was there finally and he has asked 4 times when we can go lol

Rash - grape juice stains!!! hahahah - Maybe you have heard of Townes Van Zant (if not, quite the lyricist and guitar player...I think you would like his words if not his style) . Anyway one of his songs is called the "Thunderbird Wine Blues" where one of the lines is where he goes home wanting some loving from his wife after getting ripped on Thunderbird and she says "get them damn grape peels from between your teeth" :rotfl: :teeth: I can honestly say I have never tried Thunderbird or 20-20, but all through my youth, I heard that song and imagined it wasn't going to be for me lol

We went the last week of March '05 and had mixed weather. We checked in on Easter Sunday to an absolute deluge - poured buckets all day and into the night, flooding all over the resort, guests walking through 6-8" puddles to reach their villas...and we had a blast. Just slipped on the rain gear and waded around gettin' soaked. CM's were great, planned extra indoor games, handed out easter eggs to do your own "in-room" egg hunt, etc.

Rest of the week we were on the beach, in the ocean, pools, etc., just like summer though not 100+ degrees, more like 65-75.

We only have 150 points and we can do two Sun - Fri Studio ressies at HHI with this. March is only 40 points (What lllovel is doing in Jan, right?) and August is only 65.

I've heard mixed weather reviews for this last week of March, which is our spring-break week, regardless of Easter's date. Some times its balmy, others have reported mid-50's to 60 at best. But we used this week to bike, which we never did in the summer due to heat, take DS fishing, which again i don't do for long in Aug cause I'd rather be at the beach, and exploring the island.

I'd love to get more points some at probably at WDW just to go there more often, but I doubt we'll ever give up our summer week in HHI.

The only problem with this thread is you all move so fast! I can't keep up. :flower:

We think the cuteness factor is really just self-defense. That way, when the baby has woken you up for the fourth time that night, and you go in thinking you'll throw them out the window, instead you see them so happy to see you, and so darn cute, that you just think, "no, it's okay. We'll just snuggle, and I LOVE YOU!"
Yes, it does seem to move faster when we actually have topics. It seems we actually have 2 today. One more and it will be just like old times! :rotfl:

Glad you had a good visit to HHI! I'm still waiting for my first trip home. 5 months from Saturday.

Unfortunately, I have little to contribute on either of teh current topics. So, I'm off to the closet fot an ice cream sandwich until I think of something worthwhile to say!

Hmmm...may I join you? We can make this "Ice Cream Sandwich Monday"!

ice cream.... <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm414YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_3_2.gif' alt='Drooling' border=0></a>

We actually are going on a Thurs - Sunday night just to check it all out in January. The weekend points during the "off months" are very well "priced" too, so I don't feel the same as if we were staying at WDW over a weekend or at HHI in the summer! (January is not really a good time for me to be off work - sometimes with me working 30-45 days straight, so I planned this to MAKE myself take some time off this year :) A shame when a grown woman has to "trick" herself into vacation time lol)

Sounds like a plan Miss a-go-go! Missed you near the end of the week. Found myself playing in the closet alone.

laura - Shall I bring you a napkin for that drool or do you have a bib handy? ;)

Forget the bib...we'll just use the capes they drape over you when you get your hair cut!!!

Now THAT is an image of some intense ice cream eating! lol

I had an ice cream sandwich last night...mmmmm yummy!!! (for the dairy of course :rotfl: )

Sorry, its just like teasing the bull with the red when you mention ice cream right now :earboy2:

Since we don't have to worry about the mess, we might as well add one of these too:

Holy mother of insulin shock!!! lol

You ladies are going to end up making me take a trip to the store for some junkola. (I have two nectarines here and a plum, but boy do those doughnuts look better! lol)

Nope. The grapes I had just arent' cutting it now. Even my stash o' dark chocolate (for the flavenoids, you know) just doesn't seem as appealing.

We are just being awful - teasing ourselves like this! lol

On a side note ... Carrie, did you see that the MIckey statues like the one in your siggy are going on sale? I wish I had paid more attention to them when we got to see them at WDW but I thought it was going to be there longer. I have thought of going over to Sotherby's and getting a catalog just for kicks, but at $41 for just the cataloge, I passed.

Wonder how much "yours" will bring. Just thought it was a cool and all the proceeds go to charity :)

From their website:

After touring the United States as part of the celebration of Mickey Mouse's 75th Anniversary, 75 unique Mickey Mouse statues will be auctioned by Sotheby's in New York on September 27, 2005. The proceeds from this very special auction will benefit 50 different charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.

The first 5,000 catalogue orders will also include a free, limited-edition commemorative pin featuring the 75th Anniversary Mickey engraved with edition number and sale information. <---makes me wonder if the $41 might be worth it....could sell the pin (ok - I never would lol so why am I even THINKING that).

Laura

Funny, I was just thinking of that auction this weekend. I have a large back yard and that would be a way cool addition. We were trying to guess how much they'd go for. My dh said at least $10K. I would think more. ANy other guesses. Mom said we'd have to charge admission to the back yard to help pay for it. I'd ask for it for Christmas (as b-day and anniv are taken), but I'm afraid dh may take me seriously. He spoils me. Can you take out a 3rd mortgage for something like that? :rotfl:

I still can't believe they had a Wings and a Tiger's one. Beleive it or not, teh WIngs one was teh very llast one before MK. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven (and that was before my surprise mtg with Pooh-bear later that trip). Because it was teh end of the line, I have a pretty cool picture with it. :goodvibes

Thanks for bringing up a happy memory! Sorry for the ramble!

That is so GREAT that you have to be careful what you wish for in a positive light! Super stars for Mr. Wtpclc!!! :cool1:

I wonder if the ball teams will bid on the ones that are representative of their teams. We have these huge baseballs out front of Turner Field that were all designed by different people and they are very neat. All sorts of different pieces of Atlanta history are represented, from Braves feats to Atlanta itself. I enjoy wandering through them once or twice a season. It would just be neat to have Mickey at a Wings or Tigers game. :)

Hard to say. It would seem rather odd fro Mr. Illitch to bid on one that goes to Illitch CHarities for CHildren, but from what I hear of Comerical Park, it would go well there. No real place for teh WIngs one at the Joe that I can think of, but I'd love to see it there. There, or in my back yard. ;)

I imagine the price will vary a lot considering the popularity of whoever designed it. It could be a pretty humiliating experience for some people - like in Groundhog Day when they're all bidding for the bachelors, and no one wants the camera guy.

And as for the doughnuts - I laughed so hard when I saw that. I hope none of you had a "doughnut cake" at your wedding so I won't offend, but that is just not attractive. More scary. I saw someone try to do one of those on a budget wedding show (what the heck is that called?) on TLC once, and it was a disaster. No one liked it, and the bride tried very hard to look like she thought it was cute and novel, when you could really tell she was ticked off and thought it was stupid. It could be cute if it went with a theme, or the couple was nuts about doughnuts, but in a formal wedding? Hmmmm...

Are you going to be my hockey teacher when I am up in the middle of the night with the baby soon? lol (I hate to admit it, but I didn't refer to the specific team of "your" Mickey because I don't hardly know ANY team names, much less am able to recognize a specific team's colors/uniforms.)

Laura - I'd love to teach you hockey. Of course they changed some rules on me this year, but they're pretty much the same as AHL last year. (AHL is one step below NHL and the Detroit Red Wing's primary AHL affiliate is local.)
