Nothing Rare Anymore

I agree with everyone who posted, not just the people who think that there shouldn't be any rare at all. Rare keeps certain people playing, but I am sure VMK loses more people who are frustrated that they cannot get their items. Needless to say, it is kind of pointless to rant either way.

So, here is my idea, as I like to come up with a plausible solution:

Release all of the Furniture and Posters. Just like in real life, people should be able to have cooler clothes and cooler pins than you, but I think this would keep people more interested. The one point that no one has made so far is that, even if you don't have any friends, and there is no rare left for you to get, then you can still build rooms. Make it an equal playing field, rather than one or two people getting nominations just because their room has rare. I think this would make it more fun, not just for the people who need something to do, but for room builders as well.

Please note that my sig is a wanted list for rare items.. and that I am not saying to release all furniture to complete my wanted list.. since none of those items are furniture.

i agree. to be honest, i feel jealous when i walk into a room where a person has 50 firewalls, green tea cup, cyan ariel, and all this other junk as if they were showing it off to others who dont have it. >_<

Edit: Skippy, you bring up a nice point too, it really wouldn't affect our lives in the outside world. And it would probably make us more addicted to sit in a cave longer and play VMK. So there are good and bad things to this. Pro's and Con's

I have no problem with vmk releasing stuff. Everybody should have the opportunity to get what is needed. Sometimes just a matter of at what cost.

For instance, some of the current magic does seem to cost a little too much. Maybe vmk can make single use magic that expires in 90 days or something and offer it year round. It will cost more than single use right now but way less than unlimited. Plus this allows vmk to continuously make us spend our credits.

Some other options for obtaining items could be:
A spin the wheel where you get prizes (could be free or pay a little to spin).:thumbsup2
A recycling program where we turn in multiple older items for a new item.
A wishing mouse, who grants wishes or does random acts of kindness.

Even though vmk sometimes seems like a second job, still love to play.:rotfl:

Edited to add: make all single use magic available year round is another way

I have been playing since May 2005. Yes, I collect rare items. Does that make me greedy? Does that automatically make me a "snob" to players who do not have as much as I do?

Certainly not, in my opinion.

I would quit if all of the items it took me almost 3 years to obtain were released.

Releasing rare items will not only get rid of the "snobs", but it will get rid of the kind players who have an interest in trading. Where is the fun in the game if you do not have to work for anything?

If you are jealous because you do not have what someone else has, try to earn it yourself like the person who had it in the first place did instead of pouting and begging for it to be released. If you really want something, set a goal and by hard work you can achieve your goal eventually.

Alot of people have not been here since may 2005, and even some that were, weren't able to buy all the items. Vmk never promised not to release certain items. If you like something trade for it, what you decide to offer is up to you, your decision how far your willing to go for a certain item, is on you. There are some people who take trading too seriously, and they are seriously greed.i, maybe thats there enjoyment from the game. Maybe VMK wants to level the playing field some, or maybe they have no rhyme or reason to how things are released or not released, some on vmk just like talking with good friends and having fun, and aren't interested in what is released or not released. VMK is never going to make everybody happy, no matter what they do.

Its something we could debate until inferno freezes over. There are alot of ppl who put very high values on their "rare", why I dont know. Maybe its an addiction or maybe they lack some fiber in their diet idk. I dont ever remember anyone I work with whispering as I walk by, omg thats skippypaul, he has inferno. We only care inside vmk especially when we see what some ppl have, how they display it, how they earned it, alot plays in to effect. And jealousy is a human emotion I guess not a good one, but still something we cant always control.

Oh well.

I don't think you are a " snob " and I don't think anyone else here meant it. We are talking about the unkind people who laugh at people's offers, ridicule what they have.. and so on. Anyway, I think that DisPlayer is right in that VMK will never make everyone happy. Someone might not agree about my idea either, but in my opinion, it would make the majority happy.

Traders and people who have worked hard for their items can still be happy, because they can still trade rare pins and clothes.

New players would be happy because they can get some furniture of the past.

Guest room builders would be happy because it would be an even playing field, and they would have more items to work with.

Taking away the trading factor of the game leaves VMK as nothing but a glorified chatroom. VMK would become some giant "Sharing is Caring" community where there is no trading or minigame playing because there is no reason to do anything.

I at no point called you a snob. I'm not jealous ( not saying you said I am ) of others but being told to go dead yourself because of what someone thinks is a bad offer. I am a kid not an adult, yes I can't get on vmk all the time to earn things, does that make me jealous no it doesn't. Well I want to try to make a point and i'm done with the thread because I don't want to be in a future argument. VMK is like life things happen that can't be controlled, Here is the point.

VMK releases super rare item you worked so hard to get. Yes your disappointed I understand it but it's not a reason to quit. But the player quits.

Similar senario in real life.

You have something from the 80's that was discontinued and now is very hard to find and suddenly everyone wants it. You go around with it feeling good, Who wouldn't to find out the maker is back and making it same as yours. Do you Quit Life NO. You won't go hide in some cave and give up!!

I realized this some time ago and stopped flinging myself about for the huge super rare everyone wants items, Yes I still trade, Yes I still enjoy trading, But why go for something that has so much value yet none at all?

heh this topic always comes back, I think Jake had it right, nobody ever wins this argument. :)

There are alot of trade rooms in vmk, we have a trade button. There should be some rare items.

There I said it :rotfl: but... Jake wins haha!

Excuse you i'm not going to get mad but who are you to say what I feel and what I don't I am not lying ask anyone that knows me, Ask Cheer_Girlie I let her friend borrow my inferno and I had no clue who he was at the time he could have ran off with it but I wouldn't have cared. Don't put words in my mouth and when I try to explain myself don't start stating things to try to make my point collapse.

ok, so maybe your different, but i think the majority of vmk who spent hours upon hours working for an item would be fairly disappointed to see their item go on sale.,,,,,

Tech, this poster was not putting words in your mouth. He said "maybe you're different". BTW Walrus, I enjoyed your award winning quest.:goodvibes

An apology for this thread. I still stand by my opioion, but I didn't want to argue and never thought any of you as snobs, A kid can only take so much with the "big" trades in vmk and after a while I realize things, like what is rare and value and points that don't click. I've had the desire for many things in vmk until recently where I figured that if the things have no value why do I need them and I now use vmk for friends and building rooms trading is no longer a thing for me but I still trade for things I want.

sometimes VMK is just like that = makes no sense.

wait nvm, thats all the time. :scared:

Its an inevitable progression of the game.

In my opinion vmk is stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one side they have someone who has played vmk since day one and has acquired items that over time have become very desirable, and wants these items to retain that special status. On the other side they have new players that see other players cool costumes, pins and furniture that they would like to own. I think vmk tries its best to accomodate all players, but inevitably some players will be upset with the road vmk decides to travel.

I believe all rare should be released including sparrow, stitch etc. I hate rare stuff becuase it turns people into snobs if they weren't already. My stitch off I thought was good so I offer. 5 minutes later i'm being laughed at and being told I shouldn't show my face and to go "dead" myself. Then booted. Nice ppl right I am glad rare came out and I wouldn't care an ounce if minnie, gray mansion, bird hats came out I would be happy. Don't get mad vmk has the right idea of releasing rare becuase it brings back the point of the game just to have fun not to become agro rich with "rare" and vmk also knows that releasing "rare" will get the snobs to quit and not come back. Not saying your a snob. And trust me you know a snob when you see one. No one on this board I think is like that. Minus Some. Sorry for ranting in your rant but I had too.

Yeti, I dont completely agree, If they were to release everything, it would disrupt the trading economy, Yes there are very Rude and selfish people on VMK and in the real world as well, but that doesn't mean that everyone is a monster, I should know that myself. About 99% of the people on my
friends list (including you) do have many VMK rare items and are not 1 bit of a snob or rude to others, I refuse to let anyone on my friends list that treats someone in rude ways because if i do catch them they go straight off my list.

And Like many times it has been stated before, I dont believe in the entire "Rich" and "Poor" thing because these items hold no true life value, and i do agree that the only way you can be "Rich" in this game, is by the friends you keep and hold to your heart.

Almost everytime i play VMK there is always someone being rude or mean towards others, and you bet ya, I will always try my best to stand up for that person to help them in anyway possible because everyone needs a helping hand once in a while. There is no use in being malign towards others.

When Inferno was released, yes i did take some time off to think about what i would do, I did trade alot for it, but I stayed on not for the purpose of my items, but for the purpose of the people I care for. Which everyone should do, but many don't. Life does go on, Items or not.

Thumbs-up.

How many times have topics like this been made? Way too many.

The first time was in December 05. The re-release of the red disneyland retro scoreboard and turnstile :rotfl:

every time something rare comes back this debate starts :)

Lol wait till Minnie gets re-released!:cool1: Seriously, why can't we all get along? It's just a Game! Have some fun, make some friends and be a kid (even all you grown ups lol).
