Not Your Typical "Free Dining" Question...

My mother and I are planning a venture to WDW this October. As of right now, I have an AP (which expires the day we leave) and she has a 6-day park hopper that she plans to upgrade to an AP once we are there. Next June, the entire extended family is planning a week-long trip and everyone will want/need 6-day park hoppers.

Here's my question...

Let's say free dining happens to be offered during our stay in October. Neither of us need a ticket, but if we opted to include 6-Day park hoppers in the package, 1) could I save mine and use it next June? and 2) Could my mom "assign" (i.e. sell) hers to one of the other adults who will be traveling with us in June?

I know that in the past (pre-MDE) it was no problem to save the tickets, but I was wondering if including them in the package automatically assigns them to the person on the package. My mom has already assigned the 6-day PH that she has to her account and I obviously have the AP linked to mine.

if you get free dining - you can save your 6 day ticket - you will need to make sure your AP is prioritized in the system so it will be used and not the 6 day ticket

I'm a bit confused on your mom - are you saying she already has a 6 day hopper in her possession that she is taking with her and will then upgrade it to an AP? If that is the case it might be easier for her to save / sell (if that is possible) that ticket to a relative and use the 'new' free dining (just to give it a name) ticket this trip and upgrade it since it will already be linked to her in MDE

Pre MDE and Magic Bands we went on a trip with my mom and sis where we all had free dining, but my family had APs. We were able to "strip" the tickets from our room keys and have them put on a separate ticket. We then gave those tickets to my mom and sis to use. It worked fine and there were no problems. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to reassign unused tickets to another person, I don't believe that breaks any of Disney's rules. This might get some better answers on the Theme Parks board.

I have a budget prepared which included a generous $300 food allowance for each of us. If FD comes out for our dates, the cost (with a 6-day PH) will increase the budget by about $40 each. The way I see it, that extra $80 would provide us with a total of (2) 6-day park hoppers which we should be able to save and use next year.

The reason that my mother would upgrade to an AP is because she (and my dad) would like to have access to the AP benefits for next year, particularly the TIW card. I will be buying my TIW card on our upcoming vacation so I will already have one for the October trip. My mom will hold off until June to buy hers, just in case something happens and she is unable to go next year.
