I am sure that much of it is simply business decisions. They can get more from families of five here or there. I don't buy the fire rules at all, but I don't have to. They didn't ask me when they were setting up their rules.

I do see breaking those rules as wrong and immoral, cheating.

As far as DVC, I think they saw that they could sell more units if they relaxed the rules. I think they did us a diservice by doing this. I suspect that they had their hands tied by lying sales staff....the bad part is that some people were told that the rules were strict, some that the rules aren't and they have presented murky rules on many fronts.

It amazes me how many people look at rules as things meant for others.

It is OK to question the rules, just because you question doesnt mean your not going to go along with the rules.

I personally think allowing 5 people in POR and only 4 in a 1 bedroom at BWV is crazy, but Id follow those rules if I choose the place. (I dont have to agree that the rule is right to follow it).

I agree, but unfortunately as you stated Disney itself perpetuates this attitude by allowing some to book 5 in a room and telling some no only 4 can. Little things like this show even they will bend the rules as they see fit.

Former hotel security officer here, and this is a very tough topic. When you register for your room, you declare the number of guests staying in your room. These numbers are used in the event of emergencies or in attempting head count for guest activities. There is no bigger problem than having a room cap of 6(local fire code) and finding 10+ in the room. Evicting guests at 2AM to end noise complaints from surrounding rooms(many will complain in the morning and get money off or free rooms) is no joy. I was called all sorts of names and expected to remove guests from a room without disturbing other guests around them. Yes, there are rules designed to be respected and room capacity is strict.

At the BWV there are a VERY limited number of dedicated studios that have a very small daybed suitable for a gradeschooler...ie under about 50 inches.

These are generally snapped up at the 11 month mark by DVC members.

They are not supposed to unless they can assign you one of the dedicated studios. I just wish that they would really start enforcing the rules...and either throw people out on their butts or force them to pay extra and move to proper accomodations when they are found CHEATING and LYING.

Disney is NOT A RIGHT!!! Not everyone can afford to go, and if you can't, too bad!!! I work two jobs to be able to afford my WDW trips.

I think it's rude, and extremely disrespectful to cheat and lie about how many are in the room. It messes up things like bus transportation, pool loads, etc.

But everyone that wants to do it thinks that they are such a special case, that they are so discriminated against because they have one extra person and WDW follows the industry standard of building rooms that hold four. Compare the value and moderate resorts to their counterparts--Red Roof Inn, MOtel 6, Days Inn, Holiday Inn--they are all built for FOUR. Not five, not six. TOO BAD!!! Get over it!!! You are NOT special, and you MADE A CHOICE. Now LIVE WITH IT!!!

If everyone at the All Stars had one extra person--that would be an extra 6000 people--all trying to use the same busses, pools, food courts. And then they'd all complain about the situation, even though they caused it to begin with.

I have my DVC member materials right in front of me--they are very specific about room occupancy.

As an OWNER, I don't want to pay for everyone elses vacation.

But disney has some rooms that hold 5 and some that hold 4 and there seems to be no logic on which is which other than another place to sleep, (IE a trundle bed or a daybed), and even disney makes some exceptions and tells people differently.

I care when it has a direct impact on me. Over occupancy causes more wear and tear, more linen usage, etc. That directly impacts my pocketbook. It also causes higher pool and transportation loads, which affect my vacation. That's why I care.

If you are staying someplace where it will affect me, even when I'm not staying there at the time (ie the two DVC Resorts I own at) then yes, by breaking the rules--written rules as spelled out in my owners information--then I care.

Really sorry that I even asked. Once again, I find that I can't ask a simple question without it turning into a nightmare debate. Just for the record, I do not expect anyone to "pay" for my vacation, rules are rules....it was just a question.

I really don't see what being a DVC member has to do with it. For those who are not DVC members, the Home Away From Home resorts are just that....resorts like all the other WDW properties.

When I make a reservation for one of these resorts, I'm not making a reservation at a DVC property. I'm making a reservation at a WDW resort. The fact that you happened to purchase a timeshare at the same resort is of little or no consequence to me. The rules that apply to DVC members don't apply to me, so I don't care what they are.

I'm not promoting the idea that one should put more people in a room than they are allowed, but I get tired of SOME of the DVC crowd trying to tell WDW resort guests what they can and can't do at a WDW resort. DVC members are obligated to follow DVC rules, the rest of us aren't.

I hear that one over and over and it doesn't wash....Under that theory, I should get some cash back because we only have 4 in our OKW 2 br villa. If I had to bet, I'd guess that the number of units with less than the maximum allowed is at least equal to the number over the maximum. So, in one case you make some money, in one case you lose. However, you don't lose anymore than anyone else does just because you are a DVC member.
