not the best moon but getting there

they may not be the best moon pictures but for me they are not bad but still have to say the moon is my worst enemy probably will not get a wow pic for me till i get me that SLR sometime in the future

I think you are doing a fine job. I do like the first one better. Just keep practicing. If you are anything like me, some nights I take acceptable pics, other nights they just plain stink !! I did take some moon pics last night. The moon resembled that beautiful orange eclipse moon. I about ran over DH just trying to get me, the camera and tripod out the door!!

You might want to try shots of the moon when it is not full. A lot of shooters seem drawn to the full moon, but it's really not very well lit for photography. The problem is that when there is a full moon, the sun is always roughly behind an earthbound shooter so the lighting is very flat. When it is a partial moon, the sunlight is hitting the moon at a greater angle (relative to an earthbound shooter), so you get more shadows and a better sense of depth with the picture.

I agree I have gotten some of my best crater clarity when the moon is not full but like I said I have never gotten that wow pic but i have to say that i think i get the better pics as the extreme edge of the optical zoom it gets really iffy once you get into the digital zoom

WOW, I've seen some good color shots of the moon, but that is unm.. yea.. wow..

And, if you read further, it is a stitched image and he used a telescope, which is the way the best moon shots are done. Thanks for sharing - awesome image!
