Not so great table mates

I can. Jean is a pretty tough man who beat an intruder with a lamp and held him till the RCMP came and also choked out a protester who hit him in the face with a cream pie. So it wouldn't shock me if as an alpha male he was also very virile.

Jean Chretien and the word Virile :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sorry, the those two words linked together just has me CRACKING UP :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Now that's funny! I don't have the info you're looking for, but your post reminded me about when we went with some of OUR family in 2001.

My nephews ages 7 & 10, ordered from the adult menu every night & ate fish with their HANDS! My DS9 used a knife & fork & dressed well every night. Well, they were dressed very well too, but had fun rubbing their mess on my son & his clothes (tux included). Ugh. NEVER again! And these were our relatives!! :rotfl:

I can relate to this! However, it is my step-father & brother-in-law that I hate to go out to eat with. My step-father always complains the entire meal. Something is always wrong, although everyone else's food is fine. My brother-in-law is a huge cheap skate & always complaing about price. He would be the kind to order extra food just because it is included in the price whether or not he wanted it. I would never consider taking a cruise with them where we would be stuck eating with them every night. I pity anyone who does.

WOW. How INCREDIBLY inappropriate. Of YOU, not the parents in question.

Hey Sailing,

Since you've commented twice about it, you DIDN't really drop it, :confused3

Bruce, I'm with you, (of course being the dd of an italian immigrant myself, to each his own) and we are entitled to our own opinions without criticism.

Our first cruise we had 'bad' table mates. Bad enough that I have since always requested (and been given) a table for 4. It probably helps that there are 4 in my family.

I often read the threads about the friendships that are made, and the fun times that are had by having good table mates. I sometimes feel that we are missing out.

But it is just not worth the risk to me after the first cruise. I always go to Parrot Cay for embarkation lunch and go find my assigned table. If it is not for 4 people, I will go have it changed immediately. I know you can have it changed after the first night, but I would not want to risk the awkwardness involved.

I hadn't give this topic any thought as we've been gearing up for our upcoming cruise (2 more weeks...woohoo!!), but after reading through all these posts, I think I'm starting to have an anxiety attack!

It's our 3rd cruise (other 2 also on the Wonder) and as a family of 5 we've always been seated at an 8-top with a group of 3. So far we've been lucky; they seem to be very much like us; quiet but friendly, parents with child or parent with 2 kids (we have 3), no issues to speak of. But now I'm worried that we've just been really lucky, and in two weeks we'll be sitting with people who are (1) way too loud/dramatic for us or (2) think we're way too quiet and mistake us for unfriendly when really we're just a couple of introverts (that's what MB says). Ugh...

We are a family of 4 and have sailed 5 times and have never been seated with anyone. And this is fine with us. Dinner is our time to reconnect as a family.

For out upcoming cruise we specifically requested to be seated alone as we really enjoy the family time. Reading some of these stories confirms our decision. I realize these are more the exception than the rule, but again, dinner is our special family time.

I may sound boring here, but I hope we're on a table on our own as we're a party of 4.

last trip we were only a party of 3 and were put with this couple with two kids who - over a few days we discovered - were divorcing!! Nightmare. They'd booked the cruise before they had split

I have never had "bad" table mates really.. Sometimes my travel party has talked to our table mates more then others. If we haven't clicked with our table mates we just talk to each other and the servers and enjoy the food.

I always do 2nd seating, so usually people are on time and ansy for dinner. And there are not as many children. I just sometimes feel 2nd seating takes a while. On one cruise we just told the server if we wanted a "speedy" dinner or a laid back dinner. He always adjusted to our needs...And other table mates didn't care.

Hope my luck is the same in my upcoming cruises!:thumbsup2

This is an interesting (and scary!) thread. Sorry if this was addressed and I missed it. It's my first post and first Disney cruise. I know it's not guaranteed, but can I request a table just for two? Are there tables for two in the dining rooms?

My dad and I have never had bad tablemates really out of 10 cruises, some interesting ones yes, but not bad as we had to move. I hope none of them thought we were rude my dad talked with them some, but I'm kind of shy so didn't talk to them much, when they talked to me I would talk though.

no tables for two BUT you can check out where your seated and if you don't like it you can try and have it changed when you get on board. go back to the begining of the thread and read through. i'm sure it gives you all the details you need to know how to do this.
last cruise my dh and i requested a table for just the two of us. they said they could do it if we took the late dinning. we could have our own table for four even though it was just the two of us. we declined because of plans we had and were seated with three other couples of two. it was fine. we all talked over dinner. the other couples bonded and did things after meals together. we wanted to be by ourselves and they all respected that. it turned out very pleasant.
